I have some doubts regarding the description of the polymorph subschool, when it speaks about creatures that polymorph from a natural form whose size is different from Small or Medium.
From the Beta PFRPG (pag. 160):
"If a polymorph spell is cast by a creature that is smaller than Small or larger than Medium, first adjust its ability scores to one of these two sizes using the following table before applying the bonuses
granted by the polymorph spell."
A Large character (for example) would be converted into a "Medium-sized one" before applying the effect of the spell (taking a -4 to Stength, +2 to Dexterity, and -2 to Constitution, as per table), and that I understand completely.
"If the creature’s new size is the same as its previous size, do not make these adjustments."
This last sentence is a little confusing for me. What does it actually mean? It seems to imply that the aforementioned Large character that polymorphs into a Large creature keeps his original statistics instead of doing this "Medium, then Large again". And this is were I cannot understand.
If this is the real meaning of the sentence, these odd events would occur:
1)Polymorphing into a Large Animal with Beast Shape II usually gives you a +4 enhancement to Strength and a -2 penalty to Dexterity; if the Large character instead keeps his original statistics, he would not have a -2 to Constitution to his standard scores.
2)Polymorphing into a Large Magical Beast with Beast Shape IV would give you a +6 enhancement to Strength, -2 penalty to Dexterity, +2 enhancement to Constitution; if the Large character instead keeps his original statistics, he would not have a +2 to Strength to his standard scores.
3)Polymorphing into a Large Dragon with Form of the Dragon II would give you +6 enhancement to Strength, no penalty to Dexterity, and +4 enhancement to Constitution; if the large character instead keeps his original statistics, he would not have a +2 to Strength, a +2 to Constitution, and a -2 to Dexterity.
I am obviously mistaking something, so please somebody can clarify this to me?
