Bump.
A quick answer/confirmation is all I need.
Cheers!

It seems to me, RAW, the way channel energy works replaces the old turn/destroy rules. In the old days, a vampire hit by a turning strong enough to double its hit dice went piff. I don't see any reason to change it. If you don't like the idea of your liches and vampires and such being in such jeopardy, try something like this: A vampire that succeeds on its Will save against Channel Energy is not destroyed if taken to 0 hit points but assumes gaseous form and must attempt to escape.
Make that a house rule or a feat for vampires and you're golden (but hopefully not a golden vampire because then Peter Cushing will destroy you.)

Actually I'm a player in the game ;)
I just want to find out the answer before we fight (again) a vampire we discovered. He drained one of my guys badly before, and we're making plans to get rid of him.
If indeed we can use Channel Energy to destroy the gaseous form, then we don't even have to find the coffin! (Yes, we researched about a vampire and its weaknesses).
I want to make sure the DM will understand and agree with the Channel Energy rules.
Thanks!
Any other opinions?

This question did crop up once before, I suggested letting the story decide. If the vampire's a recurring villain or the story requires storming his lair, then channeling should turn him gaseous. If it doesn't matter, or if it's a vampire mook, let him burn.

Well, he seems to be a pretty major villain, but the end goal is for us to kill him. As the player, I would hate for Channel Energy to only work some of the time.
I agree with this outlook in that the rules shouldn't be changed around just because the enemy is or isn't a mojor villian/plot character/etc. I would want to know going into a fight that a certain tactic will work with the only exception being certain magical items or spells that would protect against it. This goes for turning or any other ability.
One of the things I really hate is when a villian gets to escape by "avoiding" rules within the game just to keep the story running...

As a player, I prefer to see the rules stay the same at every session but I can live with bending the rules for the sake of the plot. As a DM, I'll sacrifice the rules only if I think it will make the story more entertaining.
I suggest you ask the DM how he's going to interpret the rule so you know ahead of time, but don't be surprised or uspet if that vampire turns out to be a little more resilient when the time comes to turn him.

In the end I forgot to talk about this with the DM before we played the next session. As the moment came up I slapped my forehead, but just went with it. Channel Energy does not affect vampires when they are reduced to 0.
Which turned out to be the more entertaining choice by far!
We chased the retreating vampire in gaseous form as it led us past more of its guardians. Fight after fight, with some members sliding past the battle to continue spying on the cloud, switching places as the next battle occurred. Very good fun :)
In the end we found its lair and coffin, and thoroughly consecrated his ass.
So, while much more challenging, it was much more fun to let the gas get away :D
