Converting Poisons

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Scarab Sages

I'm running CotCT using Pathfinder Beta, and coming near the end of Seven Days to the Grave. We had one issue of poison come up, and I was wondering if the poisons that NPCs had were worth converting.

I do like the new poison method that PF presents, but there's no doubt that it definitely nerfs poisons. Giving so many opportunities to save against them definitely lessons the damage. The question is, should I try to convert the poisons used in Pathfinder to this new method, or should I just leave them as is? If I should convert them, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks!

It does nerf the primary damage, but it un-nerfs the secondary damage, since a low Fort save character will take that damage in combat, and not have the auto-heal check save made by the healer in the party before the 1 minute delay kicks in.

It also un-nerfs neutralize poison (and anti-toxins), since if you use the spell after first being poisonsed you can actually prevent most of the damage.

As for converting, without actually going through the listed poisons in Beta, I'd start with using the same DC, and having the damage be 1 point of ability score per die of primary damage, for a number of rounds equal to the die type minus 1. So, if the original poison did 1d6 Str, have it do 1 Str for 5 rounds. If it did 2d8 Dex, go with 2 Dex for 7 rounds. That should get you pretty close to the Beta method.
