This is my suggestion for something to have in the Pathfinder RPG. It's not a huge suggestion, nor is it a mechanical one, as to be honest, I'm not great at the mechanics of games.
One thing I think would help new players out in picking classes is to see a list of characters in general fantasy, or in other Pathfinder Modules, who fit it into certain classes. So, for instance, the list that would be under Ranger would include names like Aragorn, Drizzt, Robin Hood etc. Rogue could have Haley Starshine, Bilbo Baggins etc.
This would aid new players, who often have an idea of a character, but might not perhaps understand how to fit that character idea perfectly into the class based system of D&D. Further, it'd only really take up a maximum of two to three lines for each class.
Good idea guys, beyond any possible copyright issues in using names like Drizzt and Haley Starshine?

That's a good idea. I think it's fair use to just reference other works; the Eberron Campaign Setting listed several movies as example for the "feel" of the setting.
I wouldn't mind also seeing a handful of alternate class abilities and/or starting packages for each class (maybe in a separate chapter about making future skill, feat, and power choices?) as was done in the PHB II.

If I recall correctly PHB of 2nd edition did have this, namedropping Robin Hood, Merlin and so on in appropriate chapters. And I applaud it, even if one probably need to steer clear from copyrighter characters, so no Drizzt, and sometimes it might be a bit restricting (there are folks out there who think all elves should behave like Legolas and trying to break the mould is heresy).
