What's in her mouth on Beta page 153?

General Discussion (Prerelease)

I can't make out what she has in her mouth. A pen? A cigarette? A toothpick? A sour fruity stick?

My first thought is PEN, but she has quills as well so why have both? Maybe it's a pencil, rather than just a stick of graphite. Just because it makes me smile, I'm gonna say cigarillo; cuz it's bad@$$. ;)

Word on the street is that it's a writing instrument. Could be a cig, though, I suppose.

I have to agree with this :)

but the writing implement works to, just a different feel to her character though.

I thought the feather was stuck through her head?

It's probably a pencil, since she seems to be a wizard. I'd like it to be a smoke, though. That would be sort of cool in a Sergio Leone kind of style. The Mage with No Name...

Now THAT has char concept written all over it !!!

That was my initial reaction too.

I'd have to agree with you. The idea of it being a smoke of some sort makes her a large bit more bad@$$. Of course, open flames around paper is not usually good, but she's so bad@$$ it works!

Good job, Pathfinder is now officially Rated "R".

Silver Crusade

Health hazards aside, smoking really does look cool.

That was one of my favorite pics from in the campaign setting. The limp arms and all combined with the pencil/smoke just made her look super confident.

Hey, that char concept is mine! A little Clint Eastwood makes any character cooler. Next I"ll try a Paladin/Grey Guard patterned after Dirty Harry.

She was Probably tucking a quill behind here ear got suprised, rolled a critical miss and punctuated her brain.

It sure looks like an arrow shot through the back of her head to me. I mean its right next to the heading "Consequences of Delaying" :D

That would explain the slack-looking arms, too .... she's about 1/10 second from toppling bonelessly onto the ground. ;)

Considering the art for Zon-Kuthon, I think we achieved that before the alleged cig though...

I think it's a cinnamon stick. Keeps her appetite down so she can maintain her figure =P

I'm with the dead and/or dying crowd. Looks like she got feathered.

jcarleski wrote:

*stares... debates* Bah. you've converted me. You can see both of her ears, and the "feather" is off angle to be behind her ear (unless it is tucked in her hair), and aligned with the "cinnamon stick". Doesn't really explain the 'floating book', though. Doesn't dying cancel active spells?

Liberty's Edge

quill is put distractedly in the hair, she has long hair she uses it to grab ehr quills... the distracted bad@ss wizardress..., the feather is just like the ones in her belt...

in her mouth is either a poki, chocolate stick.. or cancer stick, but fotr the menacing look on her eyes i go for the cancer stick

either way she looks cool and scary

and the arms are at teh side because she don'tneed them to cast... still spell anyone?

Scarab Sages

The same picture is on the back cover of the PF campaign setting. It is a bit clearer, in it you can definitely tell she's holding a pencil in her mouth and just has a feather in her hair. The other theories sounded better though.

And here I was, thinking she was an odd bard with a fife at the ready in her mouth.

It's blackroot. Which is ok as long as she doesn't give it to a baby.

I would be too, but not for images of substance abuse depicted as "cool".

All this talk about smoking Pathfinder society members really has me wanting to make a Pathfinder agent based on Hunter S. Thompson.

Probably Andoren. Now the question of what class he should be...

No, you come the hell on. :p

Seriously, I'm absolutely fine with Book of Vile Darkness type evil stuff, because it's explicitly called out as evil. This is different.

As it is, PRPG is probably on the verge of a "PG-13" rating for violence and stuff, which is fine. Killing evil-doers doesn't really bother me. But positive depictions of harmful adult-only practices in a game that gets a LOT of play in the underage market would (and should!) receive an "R" rating.

I'm not trying to preach, or condemn the individual choices of adults, or anything like that. I'm just saying that giving the tobacco industry free advertising in a game with a big underage demographic is not appropriate, and it would turn off a lot of parents, thus lose Paizo customers.

If Paizo was going to purposefully give PRPG an "R rating" feel to it, they should do something more worthwhile or more substantial than "wasting" the rating on an image of smoking.

However, this isn't really the point, because it's been confirmed that the object is in fact a pencil.

I've got to say this is my train of thought too.

Look at the Disney (!!!) movie Atlantis, it has characters smoking it it. I believe it's rated PG?

*sigh*

I made the comment because of the recent MPAA decision to rate all movies with smoking a minimum of "R".

I find smoking a disgusting, "uncool", and downright stink-ridden habit that makes people look absolutely stupid. BUT, that decision by the MPAA was stupid. Don't take it too seriously people.

Agreed.

MisterSlanky wrote:

Hmm...I don't know if it's the right solution, but I don't disagree with it.

MisterSlanky wrote:

Good point. As I said before, this isn't really the place for this argument, since it's kind of a non-issue. Now, if Paizo does start putting "R rated" images in the core books, then I'd be happy to have this discussion.

But the discussion here is "What's in her mouth on Beta page 153?"
The answer is apparently "a pencil." Sigh. I was really rooting for the arrow through the head.

MisterSlanky wrote:

Except that they didn't decide that. If a film shows "pervasive" or "glamorized" smoking (unless it's in an historical context), the rating may take a hit. The MPAA isn't handing out automatic Rs on smoking, though there are probably plenty of people who would support that.*

So, give the lady a cheroot! Side by side with a certain pipe-smoking mage from forgotten lands. Or realms. :D

*Me? I think it's censorship, plain and simple. While fewer Americans may smoke than did twenty years ago, we still smoke. Everywhere it hasn't been banned. And sneaking them in some places where it is. The MPAA is not our nation's moral authority, and smoking isn't a moral issue anyway.

We were somewhere around Sothis on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should take the reins..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the wagon, which was going about twenty miles an hour with the covering off to Katapesh. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Aroden! What are these godsdamn animals?"

See, now I'm actually curious about what that pathfinder would have to say about Alkenstar, not to mention other parts of Golarion. Especially Cheliax.

Honestly, I don't think I really want to run this character, I just want to read the articles!
