Warhammer Online coming soon

Video Games

Warhammer Online releases September 18 built on the setting of Warhammer Fantasy and is being run by Mythic Entertainment; they have stated they learned a whole lot about fun and playability from there other MMO's and this looks to be a great game; I am gonna play it.

you can check it out here and watch the trailer:

Scarab Sages

Do you have a guild you're joining? Any interest in starting a Paizo-oriented guild (e.g. "The Pathfinders")? I'm thinking that I'm going to be playing Order, but haven't decided for sure yet.

As of this morning - open beta is now LIVE, with release day set for the 18th.

I am currently playing a Witch Elf on Chrace by the name of Nsyddia. I also have a Rune Priest, just started, and I believe he's on Caledor.

GOOD game. Not as smooth-playing as I'd like it to be, but I expect full optimizations are still pending. LOTS of interesting things - PvP, Public Quests, and such. Decent graphics and the game resounds with Warhammer fluff. Very nice.

Okay - here's an update:

- While the game does display some bugs that are VERY similar to WoW (unattackable mobs, for one) it is perhaps one of the CLEANEST pre-release games I've played.

- Yesterday, I kept track of server load. When they reached pretty much max capacity (I'd say at least 90% occupancy across all available servers) they OPENED UP about 10 more servers! WOW. They were CLEARLY prepared for the numbers that showed up.

- The game is VERY flavorful in Warhammer lore! I've already run into about 5 or 6 small-name characters! I expect the bigger ones to show up at later levels.

- I've played three races, and about 2-3 classes per race. Each one is decidedly different in gameplay. Very nice!

- I *detest* the PvP gankfest. This is a near-epic stance of mine, and all my family knows this quite well. That being said, I have NEVER enjoyed PvP as much as I do in Warhammer's RvR gameplay! Easy to get into, easy to get out of, you feel like you're actually DOING something other than being a target for a stealthed rogue to stun-lock. Fights last a good bit - its not "snipsnipdead" as usual!

- No twinks! You can't uber-gear yourself - gear has specific level requirements, and while the buffs are nice they don't tip the scale.

- Sigmarite Warrior Priests. You CANNOT just sit back and heal - your "Righteousness Points" used to cast your spells are a direct result of your melee action. Healers who want to be part of the battle will enjoy this.

- Support classes (there are no pure healers - see priest above) can have TWO focuses - a friendly focus and an enemy focus. This allows you to target an ally (say your tank or melee DPS) and cast heals THE EXACT SAME TIME you are delivering a heartfelt sermon to some orc's gob! YOWZA!!

- Framerates are low. I'm not playing on the best of machines, so I have graphics turned to max frames. Still, the game is a bit ... choppy. I expect to see these clean up some as usually there's a lot of debugging programs server-side that help with the lag that get turned off during live. We'll see. I'm hoping to get repairs done on "the monster" by release so I can enjoy it in full glory.

- There are TONS of cool things to do. For the "completists" out there, you're going to be busy a long time. A real long time. Crafting right now seems to be limited to Apothecary and Salvaging, but there's butchering, cultivating and crafting of item buffs (can't remember the name right now - starts with a T.)

I really hate to say this, being as deeply a WoW fanatic as I am, but this stupid game came along just as I was getting a tad tired of the WoW "same ol' same ol'" and I have a feeling this is going to be taking up a LOT of my time.

Right now, I thoroughly enjoy the Empire Warrior Priest and the High Elven Swordmaster (healer/combat hybrid and tank). I don't have enough Destruction under my belt to make a comment, but I have played the Dark Elf Witch Elf, but I'm not really into that style of fighting. I plan on trying the other two classes. As to greenskins, I'd try a black ork or a shaman. Kinda fruity about Chaos however, so don't plan to see me there.

My kids and I will ALL be playing this game, and we'd definitely enjoy getting a Paizo guild or something started. Give me a hollar.

Any news on whether or not there will be a free trial offered? I hope they don't do the same thing as AoC where the only way to get a free trial is by being referred by a friend (and each friend can only refer one person).

I'd be interested in giving this a shot if there's a free trial available. I'm not about to dump $50 on a "maybe" though.

seems like destruction outnumbers order by a lot; all the servers seem full atm. dont know anyone playing at the moment.

None of that is known at this point. Depending on their marketing team, either this would be a great way to gear up for the Christmas holiday, or else to NOT gear up for the Christmas holiday - either way it would be "Mom - I want WAR for Christmas!!"

hey Valegrim -

I play either really late at night (Midnight Mountain time) or moreso around 10am to 2pm Mountain. If you're on generally in those time blocks (I believe it would be 1500-1800 GMT or 0300-0700 GMT) give me a hollar and perhaps we can link up. Name the server and the faction!

Best!

I'm playing the open beta right now. It's alright. Sadly, no game can outshine EverQuest in it's golden years.

That said, it's fun and I was interested in the continuation. Mind you, I've never played, bought or read anything about Warhammer.

I could never stand Everquest. I'm sorry, and I'm happy that you like it, but for me ... worst ... game ... EVER. I enjoyed a little EQOA, and a little EQ2 before they made it EQ1 with newer graphics, however.

Cinematic linky.

Looks SO sexy.

You can be a High Elven Swordmaster of Hoeth?

*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!*

Most MMO's don't offer free trials until they have been around for a while. Thus you can find free trials for Lord of the Rings Online, EVE Online, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, etc but not for Age of Conan or Warhammer Online.

That said, you can pay $10 for the preorder and play until September 22nd, at which point you either need to buy the full retail version or quit.

My favorite class so far is the Goblin Squig Herder. I completely agree regarding the attention to lore!

Haven't tried the greenskins much, but just for you: supposedly the command /pet name will change your pet's name to what you want it. I haven't tried it with squigs but I'm told it works with the lions.

Currently playing Warrior Priest, Swordmaster, and Witch Elf. Dabbled with almost all the others to some level or another.
