Why Doesn't Anyone Make Really Useful Minis?

Miniatures

. . . I mean, all I need is a naked guy with a longsword covered in blood wearing broken manacles . . . seriously, how much is that to ask?

;)

Liberty's Edge

Look for Gaesati or Celtic Fanatics in historical ancients ranges. Naked figures with longswords aren't especially difficult to find. (You'll need to manage the blood and manacles yourself, but that's pretty trivial.)

Eh, that's alright, I need it for tomorrow night . . . just would have been an interesting evening if the mini more perfectly matched my descriptions of the scene . . . ;)

I'll keep that in mind for future naked swordsmen encounters though.

You're running a Gor game, aren't you? :)

Heh . . . no, just (spoilers in case any of my players wander into the thread):

Spoiler:
the priest of Cyric that the PCs have been tracking for the last year went crazy and murdered all of the other members of his sect, since he's convinced himself that Leira is still alive and masquerading as Cyric, and as such, he had to murder the unfaithful that surrounded him once he realized the "truth."

I knew from LJ you had were running the Realms. I just think that if a microcosm of geeks doesn't indulge in the occasional groan-inducing Gor reference, just to remind ourselves what's going on in seedy AOL chat rooms and private con parties, we might forget the Goreans are out there, and even worse things will happen in fandom.

I have no idea where to find such a mini, especially in so short a period of time (just to make this come back to your topic :) ).

Actually, tomorrow night's session may be the wrap up of the Featherdale campaign, and after that, I'm going full on Pathfinder. Too many sad memories to keep going in the Realms for right now (but I may go back after a while).

Anyway, the insane naked cleric is the "final threat" for them, so I wanted to make it memorable. And what's more memorable than a naked guy with a sword?

Naked pre-op transsexual with a sword.

Didn't we run into someone like that once in New Orleans?

Pre-op transsexual holding a sword with strips of still-bloody human skin draped over the shoulders as a loose open cloak, with no clothing beneath, singing "Karma Cameleon" at the top of his/her lungs.

*waits for Nic Logue to steal this for his next adventure*

I feel the same way as the OP. For crying-out-loud all I need is a handful of boars for monday (not tripped out dire, fiendish, undead, spellplagued boars, just the freekin animal!), and that would make my day.

I guess I'll have to raid some kids toy box, there's got to be a compatible line of animals with the dnd minis that aren't made for collectors, aren't hand painted in China, and aren't distributed anonymously so you need to buy 12 cases to find the one you want.

Rant over - this thread was very theraputic...

Seriously, does anyone know where a DM can find a box of 1" animals for use in gameplay? With multiples also?

I find them a lot in "non-electronic" kids' toy stores. Some of them are over-sized for D&D scale (so, they must be... dire farm animals!) but some work just fine.

Next time I'm there, I'l try to pay attention to manufacturer and brand name.

The Gor reference blew my mind. I havn't read or thought about the Gor books since I was in grade 10 (and that was some time ago). Wonder if I can still pick em up somewhere. I'm betting they lose something in the trnslation of years hehehe.

As to the op, just remember, underneath all those clothes...everyone's naked.

I could have never run that encounter in a game. Ricky would have walked out of the room and never come back.

Unless you're thinking of something we actually saw in the Quarter, in which case a naked transsexual brandishing a scimitar would have been almost pedestrian.

I will wear it with pride until that thread-crown usurper 'The Jade' makes an appearance.

I found a small bag of farm animals, including pigs, in the dollar bin at Target.

Must resist the urge to turn Iron Lords of Jupiter into Gor.

I found a bag of rats -- including some nasty looking albinos who I imagine must be their telepathic overlords -- at the 'buck or two' and a bag of pigs at the 'loonie mart'.

Boars

Doesn't look like they'd get in by monday, though.
