Alpha PDF -- Printing Problems

Alpha Release 3 General Discussion

Has anyone else had difficulty printing the Alpha PDF? My printer requires that I print odd pages first, and then reprint even pages... I swear I can't get them to line up (unless I print it one page at a time). The "page names" seem to be throwing off Adobe Reader and causing me a little grief. I'm curious if I'm the only one who's having this problem, if the PDF was designed to not be printed easily, or if it's simply a I.D.1.0.T. issue.

Thanks for your time.

Which version of Adobe Reader are you using?

Try setting Page Scaling to "Fit to Printer Margins."

I'm running Adobe 9.0 -- The problem isn't that half of the page is printing on one sheet of paper and half on another sheet of paper; rather, that Adobe seems to be getting screwed up with the name of the page (when using odd vs. even-page printing) and I don't the proper "back-to-back" printout I was hoping for.

Ultimately the Beta release is right around the corner so perhaps the new PDF will solve my problem. :)

Save yourself some frustration and money and just buy the beta softcover. If you are printing in color, and even if you are printing in B&W it will likely be much cheaper to just buy it. If you are on a tight budget, Amazon has it for $16.49, buy 2 and get free shipping.

Oh! I didn't realize the Beta would be available in "hardcopy" -- I'll preorder it now.

Thanks for the update.

P.S. To Paiso in general -- thank you for recognizing that the baby didn't need to get thrown out with the bath water. 4e was overkill when 3.x merely needed a small tweak. I look forward to getting to know your products better.

P.P.S. I noticed that Kieth Baker is listed as a contributing editor to some of your content, what are the odds that we'll get some "Eberron-esque" publications in the future? :)

Yah, I complained about this, too - with the named pages, they can't even be directly referenced in the From-To line in Adobe. Just give me nice, simple page numbers. :) My original issue was that the cover was the front of a page, then the next page was also a front... since it was locked, I couldn't even add in a spacer page, and I couldn't print starting at PDF page 2 (which was Table of Contents, or something. PITA.

Why couldn't you check Print Range->Page from 2-162 then select Subset->Even Pages Only; then print the odd pages?

I'm a bit spoiled with a high speed duplexing color laser at w*rk and just tell it to print page 3-162

Probably better for Paizo if you ordered it direct from them:

I thought you were self printing to save some cash and Amazon sells it for a little less.

I realized *part* of the problem is that page "6" is actually an "odd page" for my printer, and that page "51" is actually an "even page" thereby screwing up my print job since I don't have a $400 business laserjet which can do multi-sided sheets internally.

I would ask that the PDF's put out in the future have numbers only, and that the numbers correspond (at least odd vs. even) to the numbers on the page. Thank you for hearing my feedback.

Cheers.

This didn't work for my high-speed copier/printer... I ended up highlighting the pages I wanted, and telling it to print selection. :-)

Actually I think I sent it to the printer in batches of 30 pages at a time. My computer is a bit old and it was cooking the ram trying to send a single huge job.

I'm not going to mess with it on the Beta, I already preordered it. Having the rules in a loose binder is a PITA.

I've already pre-ordered it too, but I'm actually enjoying the loose-leaf binder. I can highlight and dog-ear the pages to my heart's content, something I would NEVER do to a bound book.

(I'm an RPG newbie, and also a fairly well-organized admin type. I used a lot of postits making chapter tabs, and marking every single spell I use, etc. ~grin~)

One of the things I really enjoy about having electronic access to the material is the luxury of being able to print out spellbooks for characters so you can have all the spells in an easy to reference format. It's just nice.

HA!

Yes! zomg, how I cannot wait for Beta when all my spells will be in one book!!!

That's actually really brilliant, I should put together a page of all the text for the spells my sorc knows, and all the things they reference.

Guess I'm really not gonna get any work done today. :-)

I have also pre-ordered the book from Paizo and look forward to the next version. However, my gaming group will not be buying multiple copies of the publication until the final version is released in Aug2009. I certainly hope they have cleaned up the page-naming for the beta pdf.

Cheers.

Can you print it out for less than $17/ copy? Seems unlikely unless you are using someone else's printer.

Well, with a lazer printer and 24wt paper I could print 400 pages for About $7-$8. A 1500 page toner costs $30 and 500 sheets of nice paper is $6. Granted, it'd be in black and white, but that doesn't bother me.

Yeah I guess so. I could actually print it out for free at work but I much prefer a bound copy even if it's only usable for a year. Plus... full color pictures of Seoni help :)
