How long has this been going on?

I just heard about it today. Latest thing I read points to it being a viral marketing campaign for some new Cartoon Network program about cryptoids.

Liberty's Edge

To me, it looks like either a dead raccoon or terrier that has been in the water for a while. One time, when I lived in Erie, Pennsylvania, I saw a dead woodchuck that had washed up on the beach. Damn thing looked like a space alien.

Liberty's Edge

More like a hunting dog of the Dharzi if you ask me.

Scarab Sages

I can kinda see it as a turtle without a shell, as one of the commentors wrote. either that or it's faked.
i have a pretty high belief threshold.

If you click one of the links, there's a segment on Fox with Jeff Corwin explaining that it couldn't be a turtle without its shell because the turtle's spine is built into its shell. He suggested a dog or raccoon (look closely; it has teeth, not a beak)

Liberty's Edge

A shell-less turtle...mutants....hrrmmm.....

I wasn't entirely sure about that either, but the teeth also seem to argue against it being a turtle.

Liberty's Edge

A mutant teethed, shelless turtle.

Sounds alien to me.

They're undead; they can't drown. Besides, Grome would never relinquish one to Straasha like that.

This is getting weirder by the minute.

Something crazy's going on up there in the Hamptons. Grome letting Straasha have a dog...a live one....that should be dead....

So, what kind of special abilities would a shelless turtle need to remain a viable species?

I'm thinking major damage resistance and some kind of energy drain.

Liberty's Edge

Naah....definitely psionics.

Liberty's Edge

we can r/o water breathing though.

It could be a cloverfield-like parasite.

The hind legs look more like a mammal than a turtles. But, that may just be do to the angle of the picture.

Not necessarily. Maybe it died of a powerful mind thrust and was then thrown out to sea (perhaps telekinetically) by the killer(s). That fits in with your psionics theory.

Doesn't D20 Modern have a Montauk Monster statted up?
Or am I receiving insane broadcast thoughts again?

Hmmm... maybe it is a viral marketing campaign for D20 Modern 2nd Edition...

I suppose you missed the link in the first post (so did I at first). Click on the word "this."

There was a Montauk Monster in Alternity Dark Matter. May well have made it into d20 Modern too.

Liberty's Edge

It kinda looks like a drop bear.

Might be a leap bear, 'though. They are hard to tell apart.

Although anyone who tells you that's 'cause they're related is just crazyflakes. Obviously. Pshaw.

Mngwa, on the other hand, are so hard to find because they all spend most of their time in human form. Shapeshifters love to prank the mundanes.

"The most conspiracy-minded are sure the Montauk monster is detritus from a sinister government operation. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-operated Plum Island animal testing facility is nearby, fueling the belief that the USDA is responsible; some would see the Montauk Monster as a hideous USDA experiment gone wrong while others might consider it a not -so-unexpected byproduct of animal experimentation."

Okay, so I'm thinking it used its newfound mutant teleportation abilities to escape from the labs. The big questions are 'How many of its mutant friends did it spring?' and 'Where did it lay its eggs before it died?'.

"The reptiles are really crawling out of the woodwork now. I've been thinking about going to Disneyland and making all the guys in the animal costumes change heads. Sure! Mouse head, duck body. Warp those brats early on, I always say!"
