One thing I noticed though. There are no bridges connecting the banks, or the small island for that matter. Intentional?
I noticed the same thing. I figure that Riddleport probably doesn't have a very successful core of engineers, so they must rely on ferries and small one/two man craft to get back and forth.

They have their own Chunnel.

This is what I was thinking too. There is a lot of waterfront and the river is quite wide.
The island appears to be primarily a fort or some sort of walled campus and it's entirely possible it is deliberately kept separate from the mainlands.

HA! That's pretty funny regarding the shadow... Chalk it up to the Cyphergate being MAGIC or something... or to artistic license.
ANYway... yeah. No bridges = lazy security from all the goblins and ogres and monsters that live in the Calphiak Mountains, a leftover from early days. Once it became apparent that there wasn't THAT much to worry from the mountains, buildings started popping up on the western side. In any event, Riddleport's a very boat friendly city; if you don't have a boat or know someone with a boat, there's a relatively robust ferry service back and forth across the river. For the right price, of course.
Also, Riddleport's not to interested in how the commonfolk get over the river, anyway. If you can't afford to cross the river... you don't have any business crossing the river in the first place.

OK, I guess I'm not that crazy then. My interest in solar power caught this shadow problem right off the bat, too.

This map looks different in style than most that we've seen in Pathfinder so far. Is this one Rob Lazzaretti, and if so, why the shift in style?
It looks a lot like the Guide to Darkmoon Vale map, and that one was credited to Rob Lazzaretti. Compared to previous maps by the same artist (like Sandpoint's map), I feel these two maps don't look as good. There's something that makes them feel… digital.
Too much textures, and not enough painstakingly hand-drawn roofs and trees!| F. Wesley Schneider Contributor |
Yup, Rob does all the maps for Pathfinder. Riddleport is meant to be a good deal more ramshackle then Sandpoint or Korvosa, so that might explain some of the more patchwork style. We've made no new choices in the way we handle our maps or seek to present them, so I suspect that any perceived shift relates to this piece alone. Second Darkness visits more cities then any prior Adventure Path, though, so if Riddleport doesn't light you on fire, expect a new city in #15... and #16 for that matter... and #17.
