I wish the first film didn't leave me so underwhelmed. I watched it again on cable and confirmed how I felt about it, but strangely found myself flipping it on quite often when it was showing again. It didn't help me like it any better, I guess I just like the coolio things in it - when you can tell what's happening, anyway.

I can't stand Michael Bay.
I'm not a fan of Shia LaBoeuf.
Megan Fox is nice to look at, but can't act.
Jon Voight... eh.
John Turturro is... The Jesus!
In all, the first movie was fun to make fun of. I hope the second is either actually a good movie, or at least good MST3K fodder.
Mark your calendar- I am disagreeing with Shiny on something. Loved the first transformers and can't wait for the second.

Transformers is my only hobby that predates D&D, so I am absolutely buzzed; I've been following production info and such quite regularily. I admit I only tuned in to the superbowl to watch this teaser.
I'm pleased Jetfire is a decepticon. After all, in the Gen1 storylines, both comic and cartoon, Jetfire was a decepticon....at first.
They did some footage shots in Egypt, and the poster, which is purportedly of the Fallen's face, is both highly reminicent of the decepticon symbol, and of a pharoh's headdress. Many have criticized the use of the aliens/pyramids trope, but hey, it wouldn't be a trope if it wasn't reliable.
While the fanboy in me would be amused at a big green and purple Devastator, part of me is thrilled at the odd monocycle-legs that can be briefly seen in the trailer. A race of beings that can reconfigure their bodies to suit their needs; are they all going to choose fully humanoid forms?
All in all, the first movie made the little kid in me who had the 3 origional Dinobots standing on his 10 year birthday cake happy, even as the writer in me cringed a little and the adult in me scoffed at parts. I'll go to the theater once more this summer to see the sequel, and while a 29 year old husbad and father will be walking into the theater, it will be a 10 year old kid who sits in the seat.

Here is one of the new cars appearing in Transformers 2. Who do you think it's going to be? My money is on an upgraded Jazz or Silverstreak.
It's Sideswipe.
If you're looking for pretty reliable Transformers movie news, try www.seibertron.com. They're pretty good at sorting out what's true and what's just rumour/misinformation.

Rumor has it that was only one of the Constructicons, the leg portion of Devestator to be precise. The combined Devestator will be composed of seven Decepticons of that size.

I'll have to second that. The first movie had about 15 too many people in it and not nearly enough robots. Making the Transformers stoop to pee and potty jokes was low and unnecessary, and the action scenes were so jumbled up that I couldn't tell who was fighting who, who was winning or even what part of the TF was being shown. They really need to streamline the designs and make them more identifiable, especially at the speed Bay shoots. It would also be nice if they didn't have magic hearts that save the day in the new movie.

WHile I did like the first one, I must say that I agree that the "lubrication" jokes just kind of turned my stomach. I just felt the entirety of that and the transformers sneaking around like bungling stooges in the backyard made me cringe. I wish we had seen more personality from the various bots (Especially more time with Starscream running the decepticons in Megatrons stead). All in all an ok movie otherwise.

Krypter; if you get the transformers on dvd; and watch the second video which has info about the film; the director says he too wanted a lot more robots in the film; but with the budget they had; they just couldnt afford it; he tells how much money and how many man hours each FRAME costs; is like 36 man hours a frame. So; hopefully this coming movie will have a much bigger budget.
| Krypter |
Yes, the robot CGI costs a lot, but that's what the movie is supposed to be about. Cut the length of the movie then, or make the transformers less complicated. I looked at the CGI stills of the robots and they were insanely complicated for no obvious reason; you can't see the complexity when they're in motion on the screen. You could easily make them boxier and more streamlined like in the G1 cartoon.
The budget of the movie went from $150m to $200m, so the situation won't be much different in the next one. Bay should also reduce the number of robots in each movie to reduce costs and develop the characters more clearly. I want a movie about Transformers, not stupid humans. :)

Here is a first look at The Fallen. Yes I know it's just the action figure, but it gives us a clear look at the movie's chief villian.

First Theatrical Trailer Some new material, and some is what we saw during the Superbowl commercial.
Also the names of the Constructicons for the movie are Demolisher, Hightower, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Rampage, Scavanger, and Scrapper.
David Fryer
|
Are those the names of the original constructicons? I don't remember.
Longhaul, Mixmaster, Scavanger, and Scrapper are. The other two original constructicons were Bonecrusher (already used in movie continuity), and Hook. Perhaps the name Hook was considered too generic to use, or perhaps there were issues with licences.

Apparently Dreamworks/Paramount have announced the third Tranformers movie is go, and The projected release date is July 1, 2011.
Micheal Bay has alreay commented it on it saying the release date is wrong saying the third movie is due till July 2012

They could care less about the success of the sequel right now. Mostly they want to throw a big name movie out there to compete with the other movies set to debut in summer of 2011-2012 (Captain America, The Avenger, etc.)

Getting a bit ahead of themselves aren't they? I would have thought they would wait till the second transformers movie was out before starting on a third.
Lord of the Rings filmed all three movies at the same time, and Pirates 2 and 3 were filmed back to back. Especially with a franchise like this that is going to have a lot of CG post production work, it makes sense to get the RL actors work done before they age too much for it to be belivable that only a short amount of time has passed. I wouldn't be suprised if they were already in production on the next couple of G.I. Joe movies as well.

Hmmm, new full trailer is up, and I am excited very much!
No more information spin or other attempts at keeping the lid on it. Megatron is back, Devastator is massive, and Jetfire is a cranky old codger. I can't wait.
Not to mention that Sam is now officially a nutcase.
Mrs. Witwicky: Do you smell that?
Mr. Witwicky: Yeah, it smells like $40,000 a year.
That is the best line ever.

You know music can make or brake a movie sometimes. When the first movie came out fans were upset the "Transformers Theme" wasn't used.
Well Revenge of the Fallen gives us a theme. "Transformers: The Fallen Remix" by Cheap Trick
Before clicking the link 1)turn your volume WAY down, 2)have ear protection and 3)have a cyanide tablet ready!
To add to thing what did Stan Bush do to "The Touch"!

I know I most likely deserve to be shot for this, but I like the new version of The Touch. I think they should have gone with this Transformers theme though

Using Lion's version would have been great nod to the orginal. And even today it's a great song!
I will say Black Lab did an alright job with when they covered it.

I wanted to cry. Then I clicked on the link to the new version of "The Touch" and I did.
Pass the cyanide.

Pardon the threadcrap, but...why?
The first movie was a giant, steaming pile. Don't get me wrong, the special effects were very good, but the plot made absolutely no sense. And yes, even in a movie about giant robots, or wizards, or whatever, the plot still needs to make sense. Suspension of disbelief only applies to items for which it is built, after all.
Now back to your regularly-scheduled thread. :)
Edit: Perhaps Micheal Bay is "The Fallen?" Then at least the title would be appropriate... ;-)

Well, it made money. It made a huge amount of money. Michael Bay has proven himself to be a money maker. Of course Hollywood is going to bang out a sequel to a movie that made back its production budget off of ticket preorders. Especially now that Hollywood knows how large the Transformer Fanbase is (doubly so now that the movie has added to it).
Even as a rabid fan, I admit there were some pretty bad parts of the first movie. The humor was most often sophmoric, flat, or simply overdone. The "lubricating" jokes were unneeded and the hiding around the house scene was about two minutes too long. As I understand, the second movie should be significantly better in that regard, as it apparently has a more "grimdark" tone.
That being said, I enjoyed it for what it was: a special effects bonanza that allowed me to see Optimus and the rest in "real life". And I'll excitedly see the sequel for a second dose of that.
I'm not trying to troll you with this, but if the movie was that bad for you, where do your benchmarks of bad and good movies sit? What is worse, what is better? Again, this is just me being honestly curious.

I saw the movie last nite (a friend won tickets to the 'avant-première' at a radio station)...
All in all, it's a good movie; Filled with incredible action scenes, AMAZING special effects, and (of course) Megan Fox. So, pretty much, if you liked the first one, you'll like this one.
One major hitch with it for me is that they try WAY too hard to make the audience laugh with (again) misplaced comedy. When I go to see these big budget sci-fi films, I'm not there to laugh... I'm there to be awed by heroic scenes (special effects or not) and amazing camera shots.
Another little hitch I had was whith all the damn Transformers that already exist in the mythology, why (oh, dear Lord why?) would you feel compulsed to create new ones just for the film? Specially if the new ones don't really bring anything interesting to the movie. I want to see Braun, Grimlock, Rumble, and even Ultramagnus... No, instead they show us a bunch of these new crappy unimportant robots that we (the audience) don't give a damn about.
I still give it a seven out of ten, and I still recommend it though. It's two hours of non-stop action well worth the ten buck admition fee.

I saw it and enjoyed it. It's a fun summer action flick with shapeshifting robots; what's not to like?
Yes, it has plot and pacing issues, and there several things about it that I wish they had handled differently, but at the end of the movie I felt pretty satisfied and entertained. I look forward to seeing it again.
