YEAH! This was an incredible film!
I think this may have been the best Comic book movie EVER!
Although I could see the problem the writer was faced with. The joker was always know for his gasses and poisons, and the last film featured chemicals as well, so he could not go that rout as well, so they had to focus on his other aspects.

I think that Heath Ledger was better than Jack Nicholson. He was a lot scarier ("terror is cheap", etc.), and a lot less campy in clothing style.
Rumour has it that he and Morgan Freeman were in an elevator together while Ledger was getting into character, and Ledger managed to do it so well that he freaked out Freeman. (Sorry about the alliteration.)
All in all, The Dark Knight's Joker is a lot closer to the comic-verse one.

I didn't care for the first one that much. The tone and filming were great, but I didn't get into the villain. Don't get me wrong, Liam Neeson is a great actor and all, but hell he was also played Qui-Gon Jinn so we know that great actor doesn't always make a good character.
Having said that, my hopes weren't that high for this movie. Having said that though, the movie was simply awesome. My only problem is saying which superhero movie is my favorite: Dark Knight or Iron Man!
Damn fine year for superhero movies though I'll say that much. DC is really stepping up making good superhero movies I guess, looking forward to the next Batman and Superman movies. And yeah the Joker was great in it, though I'm not sure which one was better. I felt both Nicholson and Ledger did great jobs in the roles, and they were different because of the very different tones of the movies. Both did a great job of playing the exact Joker we were looking for in both.
So who is the next villain? Wasn't that Scarecrow at the beginning? I would like to see Catwoman appear in some form, pass on Penguin and Bane. Zsaasz or however it's spelled is a crazy enough guy to throw in a movie. I've got mixed feelings on Riddler. Two-Face is out it seems...it's too bad he could carry a movie too. And heck, I loved Azrael's costume from the comics. I'd pay money to see the original Sword of Azrael made into a movie.

I kinda got the feeling that Jack Nicholson's performance owed more to Cesar Romero's performance as the Joker from the 60s TV show.
Heath Ledger's performance was something else entirely. Something awesome.

Ledger's performance is discussed in depth in the The Dark Knight Review thread.

OH YEAH! Now we just need one more convert. He's gritty, he's 'realistic', it would be a nice nod to the comicbook faithful to bring a 'second stringer' to the forefront and make him a force to be reckoned with. C'mon, vote Zsasz.

Dont count him out. This is a comic book movie. Death is NEVER permanent.

That's another good idea. They've got the setup with the bat brigade in DK, maybe one of them goes all super righteous and turns into AzBats.

Well they did use Ra's Al Ghul, I wouldn't consider him a typical movie Batman villain. The first movie did very well using a villian that most of the audience had never heard of, so I don't see why they can't use Zsasz. Plus, yeah he's very gritty and that's the style of these movies I guess.
I should clarify. Comic readers and viewers of the Batman cartoon know about Ra's Al Ghul, but the majority of people who saw the movie know about pretty much the villains in the first three Batman movies in the late 80's / 90's.
Scarecrow is also a good villain, would like to see him get an extended role.

It's pretty good. I still like Jack Nicolson's Joker better. And, why does Bale, as soon as he dons the mask, try to do a "Dirty Harry with throat cancer" impression?

Actually, I don't think Christian Bale actually talked that way during filming. I believe his voice was altered during post production and he had nothing to do with it. Besides, it makes sense to me that you would try to talk in a way that would be different from your normal voice (to make it harder for people to tell who you are) and to be more intimidating if you are a masked vigilante.
Anyway, great movie. Maggie Gyllenhaal was light-years better than Katie Holmes and Aaron Eckhart was incredible as Harvey Dent.

Great soundtrack for D&D playing.
Except my Walmart doesn't carry it. I've been looking for it since the movies release. Walmarts soundtrack section is terrible. Actually, it isn't so much MY Walmart but rather the Walmart within the community I live in, and the Walmart doesn't actually belong to the community either. But either way.....WHY DON'T THEY HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK? THEY SHOULD REALIZE I WANT IT AND THEREFORE HAVE IT IN STOCK. HOW RUDE! I THINK I WILL BOYCOTT THEIR GROCERY DEPARTMENT UNTIL THEY GET IT.

Now I feel like a tard since I was reading up, yeah Zsasz was in the first movie in minor role heh. Scarecrow I completely forgot about! I might have to go back and watch the first again.
Zsasz is a guy who kills women and puts marks on his body basically. Good crazy guy for the movie. I'd skip on Penguin he wouldn't really fit into this series so much.
