4th Edition

Dark Archive

Ok 4th edition is now out and doing great. Pathfinder is out and doing great. Both your games are being supported. It's time to just let it go IT"S JUST A GAME. And you both basically have what you want or at least an outlet for both. It's time to just let it be. Cause as it stands right now 4th ed isn't going away with the massive amounts of sales it's getting and neither is pathfinder for that matter with the amount of sales it's getting. Time to drop it.

Aye aye Lieutenant!

You can count on me!

Awww ... but think of the kids. Who will teach them to argue over nothing of consequence if we don't

SILENCE! VOICE OF REASON!!! SILENCE!!!!!!!!!! (covers his ears)

How dare you???

Anyway--yes, absolutely. Best of luck and success to all publishers of role-playing game products. Our hobby is not mainstream enough for us to cut our own throats. Success for one does not have to come because of failure of another.

The Exchange

This topic brings out the worst in people.

I am glad both editions will be around to support different styles of play.

I truly advocate using the board as a resource instead of a forum. We support each other that way as opposed to brawl.

Yes, we must focus our hate on something worthwhile, like Uwe Boll or Poverty or Malaria or Madonna.

I'm voting for Madonna.

I hate that boney witch.

TEXT OF THE EDITION WAR ARMISTICE AGREEMENT

July 19, 2008

Agreement between the Paizo fanbois and 4e haters, on the one hand, and the 4e fanbois and WotC lapdogs, on the other hand, concerning a military armistice in gaming.

Preamble

The undersigned, Paizo fanbois, on the one hand, and the 4e fanbois, on the other hand in the interest of stopping the edition conflict, with its great toil of suffering and bloodshed on both sides, and with the objective of establishing an armistice which will insure a complete cessation of hostilities and of all acts of armed force in the world of roleplaying until a final peaceful settlement is achieved, do individually, collectively, and mutually agree to accept and to be bound and governed by the conditions and terms of armistice set forth in the following articles and paragraphs, which said conditions and terms are intended to be purely military in character and to pertain solely to the belligerents in gaming ...

Agreed.

Although to me the debate lost any interest when it devolved into a "you can't have fun with THAT ruleset, I can tell you for sure" argument.

Somewhere in there, there is going to need to be a line or two agreeing to not jump all over people's opinions about, or reviews of, 4e. Basically a provision stating we all agree to simply not feel the need to post rebuttals to anything in a review we disagree with.

If that goes in I'll sign on.

QFT. Time to stop moaning about the other camp and how 'X edition screwed up my game, killed my dog, slept with my girlfriend, gave my mom shingles'. Both games are here, most likely in some incarnation as long as we're alive anyway. Time to concentrate on gaming and save all the hatred for election season.

You don't like WotC ... don't buy their products.

You don't like Paizo ... don't buy their products.

No one has convinced anyone else in the other camp to switch sides in the 11 months we've been chewing on this issue. All there are are hostile feelings and endless threads with flames shooting back and forth. Time to prove we are larger than this argument and just walk away.

Odd choice of link ... isn't just agreeing to 'just walk away' there (in the Mad Max clip) really a trap leading to murder and destruction? ;-)

I don't think this would fly. If you don't want to participate in the war then staying in your corner is probably the best solution.

Otherwise one is always going to get a situation where people are correcting what are perceived to be inaccuracies about 'their' game, Does not matter if their game is PfRPG or 4E.

Hm, see I think people should be free to write reviews and thoughts about a game they've paid money for and played without (either side) jumping all over them because they disagree with the review/opinion voiced.

However, more often than not it seems to me, many if not most of the edition war battles errupt because people do just that, leaping on review threads and violently (methaphorically speaking) disagreeing with and often ridiculing the OP's stated opinions.

If we could get a clause into the peace treaty somewhere banning that kind of thing ... well it'd be good.

Or maybe follow the rule of - if you can't say something nice don't say anything.

I see no purpose in trashing 4e here just like I see no purpose in trashing 3e on that board or Pathfinder on that board.

If you talk smack about 3e/4e/Pathfinder on their respective boards i would expect rebuttals so if that is what you wish to avoid then don't post flame baiting negativity.

Now, if you want to constructively discuss the weak points of the system then go for it but keep it civil and the flames will be kept at bay.

Ahh just having a bit of fun. I wrote that and it popped into my head. This being the Internet, the pop references can be shared. :)

Besides any day I can work that clip in is a good day. :)

Yes, well, part of the joke was sticking as closely as possible to the wording of the Korean War Armistice Agreement ... You did realize it was a joke, right?

I can't say I'm particularly familiar with the Korean War Armistice Agreement... or the Korean War, for that matter.

Who decides which is which?

I demand loopholes! Loopholes I say!

And maybe a provision acknowledging the superiority of Bella Sara over all each of PFRPG and 4e. That would be nice (and true!!!).

4e'er: We got a contract...

Pathfinder: You bet.

4e'er: No matter how small it is...

Pathfinder: Hey, wait, wait. What does this say here? This thing here.

4e'er: Oh, that? Oh, that's the usual clause. That's in every contract. That just says uh, it says uh, "If any of the parties participating in this contract is shown not to be in their right mind, the entire agreement is automatically nullified."

Pathfinder: Well, I don't know...

4e'er: It's all right, that's, that's in every contract. That's, that's what they call a 'sanity clause'.

Pathfinder: Ha ha ha ha ha! You can't fool me! There ain't no Santa Claus!

Oh yeah. It was fought in the same style as that classic Star Trek episode where we used computer simulations but didn't fire any weaponry due to the damage to the planet. But, I've got some bad news. You were killed in the confrontation and need to report to your local termination center for...let's say "processing."

As a result of my repeated stories of the hilarity of whole Bella Sara deal with you and Cosmo, my girlfriend got me a Bella Sara lunchbox (with three included cardpacks and the code to unlock an enormous stuffed bunny!) in honor of my first day on the new job.

So I've got that going for me, which is not too bad. :-)

And yeah, when you work out the details for the Bella Sara RPG, I am totally jumping ship from Paizo and WotC. At the end of a gaming session, everyone is just going to feel so completely affirmed.
