PDF Thumbnail Preview

I wasn't sure where to put this, but it is a technical issue, so I hope this is properly placed. This is only a nitpick request, so feel free to ignore it.

I would love for the Pathfinder PDF's released by Paizo to display the first page of the PDF in thumbnail view under Windows. The Player's Guides do this already, but the Pathfinder AP's don't seem to, nor does the Alpha rules. I usually browse my PDF's in thumbnail view and I think this would be a great added feature.

Thanks for reading.

This isn't something we do—this is something your OS does. Looking around Adobe's site, I found some discussions that indicate a recent Adobe update seems to have broken this for some Vista users.

Thanks for the help Vic. The link you gave me led me to doing some more research and I discovered that any PDF I own with Password Security (such as the Pathfinder AP's) will not display as a thumbnail preview, while any PDF without no security will generate the preview. That's why the Player's Guides were doing it.

Obviously, I'm not going to ask Paizo to remove the security from the files as you guys need to protect your goods. So, I'll just learn to live with it. At least now, I understand why some files were acting that way.

Sczarni

instead of double clicking on the file, open adobe and go to the directory the file is in. wait for it to load the thumbnail. .. from then on the thumbnail should be visible... thats how I just did it

Hmm. That would actually make a lot of sense for documents that require a password to *open*, but our protected PDFs only require a password to *edit*. (You'd think that if you're allowed to *view* the document without entering the password, Windows would know that creating the icon isn't a security issue.)

I am a Vista user and I have never had this problem.

Could be your version of Adobe as well - if the file was created in one version and you're opening it in another, problems could ensue.
