Hey guys,
In one of the early adventures, there is a key to a numbered vault in the Temple of Abadar ... what did you guys put in the vault? I did my own thing, but I'm curious what the other DM's out there did.
At the end of last session, my group decided to ambush a Physician/Gray Maiden patrol, and take their clothes to infiltrate the Hospice ... how far would you recommend letting them get to?

I wasn't planning on putting anything in the Abadar Vault, I figured since they place so much emphasis on wealth with this diety that there wouldn't be anyway they would let monsters creep around down there.
One thing to think about the ambush is that if they are spotted by some common folk they would probably get turned in to the authorities or they may go to get additional city guards since most of the city believes that they are trying to help with the plague when the party attacks them.
After that it depends upon how far they are into the adventure for the ambush. If they have already got all of the clues about the evil of the physicians it would then depend on their bluff checks and how they played it getting in. They should be able to walk right in through the main level.
Since they don't know the layout, they would probably have to bluff their way past the other "Physicians", since they are fairly few, they would probably recognize each other's general garb.
The party could at least get the jump on the group in the main hospital chamber pretty easily with that plan though, if they pull off the bluff's.

Isn't that the key that's in one of the encounters in Seven Days to the Grave? I just used the stuff written in the module.
As for PC infiltration of the Hospice, I'd say let them see as much as you want them to see before battle ensues. Given the bad things that are going on there, chances are that any good-aligned PCs are going to want to throw a wrench in the operations anyway.
Personally, I'd let them get to the "Oh, I think I see what's going on here stage," then let one of the Gray Maidens call their bluff.

It is in 7 Days ... but I don't see anything detailing what the vault contains.
As for the infiltration, the players were very clever. Our beguiler put on the physician's outfit from the corpse in the Direption, went to the seedy part of town, found an abandoned house, and put the rest of the party inside. The beguiler made 'hey, there's sick people inside this house' motions to a physician/Gray Maiden patrol, and they promptly bushwacked them by casting silence, barring the door, and beating them to death.
The beguiler cast invisibility, and snuck into the hospice, and saw a bit of details, and left. They now are dressing up as physicians and Gray Maidens and are going to waltz into the hospice. I'm sure they can get past the nurse at the front door, but I'm not sure about the main ward ...

There's something specific in the text for the Hospice regarding patrols of Maidens and/or physicians that are not expected. If memory serves me well, it's when they take the elevator to the upper levels where Davaulus is holed up. I'd recommend checking the text there. So, that's as far as I'd guess they'd make it without trouble.

The paragraph giving the contents of the deposit box starts on page 22 and runs to page 23, in the treasure section for area A3.

Well, as I said, it all depends on how far you want them to get. The physicians and maidens aren't dumb. If a bunch walk in and don't act like they know what they're doing, someone will ask questions, at the very least.
So far though, it sounds like your players have done some excellent planning and developed some fine tactics for infiltrating the place. Kudos to them!
