Adimarchus and Cagewrights' plot seems more devilish that demonic...
Really I'm rambling with the new 4e background as for "Wizard presents" and the manuals; but the basic idea of demons=destroyers and devils=scheming/power hungry/souls bargainers/humanoid in shape is older than the 4e.
Asmodeus may replace Grazz't as Adimarchus nemesis.
Devils may replace demons.
Any opinion is welcome.

If you're asking could the cagewright plot work if Adimarchus was a devil rather that a demon the answer is yes. But if you're asking if it would fit better.... I'm not so sure.
Tanar'ri can be very subtle and manipulative if they want to. Look at Grazz't and Malcathnet for example. Or look at Succubi and Nalfashnee. Both cater to base emotions, and both are indirect in their approach to corrupting mortals.
But the real beauty of the plot is how mad it truely is. Open a gate out of Carceri create a distraction and free a demon prince? It's completely insane!

I sort of like the idea of switching devils for demons in at least one AP. Demons are starting to seem a little overused by comparison (Demonweb Pits, Savage Tide, Shackled City), when there's just as much interesting material in the second Fiendish Codex as the first. The fun of devils is that they have a twisted sort of code, and their manipulations are always with long-term plan in mind. That, to me, seems like the perfect villain in a campaign that goes from low-level to high. Demons can scheme, sure, but I've always thought of them as amateurs at it compared to devils. Just think: every TPK-causing pit fiend plotted and schemed their way up from a pathetic lemure.

I guess it didn't bother me that Big A was a demon, because techincally he was also an angel, which gave a LG to his CE, which makes him Crazy N in a NE kind of way. Which works, because MOST of the evil outsider activity of the AP to that point are the NE daemons.
Works for me. The three adventure paths as a whole make a "mega-path" that is blunty "War Against Chaos". Which is tied in well with the Wind Dukes in Age of Worms, and such. I'm going to try and throw some foreshadowing into SCAP for Age of Worms and Savage Tide, and then some more ST foreshadowing in Age of Worms, as I have a great group that wants to run ALL THREE paths, playing the children of the previous path's victors. I think it'll be a blast.

Congratuations Snorter.
Tell us all about it!
Oooh; I don't know..
is this a spoiler-free zone?
How do I know you're not a devious player looking to get one over his hard-working DM?:)
What I can say is; the DM (or rather Myrakul and Adimarchus) both killing the DM's wife's PC, in the last room, within the space of a minute, raised a few eyebrows!

Under the 4E approach, all those 'intelligent corrupters' would be devils.
This is one of the 4E concepts I don't have a problem with, despite the howls of protest from some quarters.It would actually resolve a lot of paradoxes that have been around from the beginning;
The Drow priesthood are listed as CE, to serve the Demon Queen, yet they live in a highly structured heirarchical society (albeit with murder as a valid promotional strategy), ie they act LE.
If it bothers anyone too much, they can always split the difference, ie, Lolth is the Daemon-Queen of Spiders (and all the PCs to tangle with her so far, have just mis-heard...).

The unbound insanity and pure rage that is Adimarchus always struck me as having to be demonic. In fact, I'm pretty sure that is supposed to be the ultimate irony of the big A's existence. That he began as a Lawful Good archon of incredible power and grace, only to fall and become the ruler of a Chaotic Evil realm. The contradiction of those two existences is part of what drives his insanity, as well as the inner conflict that always rages within him (his good act of self sacrifice ultimately lead to the undoing of his evil schemes). I personally don't think he really works as a devil, but then again I also don't think SCAP can be converted very well to 4e so we'll see what happens.

I know I wouldn't be convertable to 4E.
Skill ranks in every skill at level 1 is apparently not on the table!
(OK; I lie. I didn't buy Use Rope).
