So I'm thinking about putting my 34 years of DMing experience to use here(its got to be good for something). Have a few options in mind maybe Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk or something from the Goodman Games canon possibly even Castle Whiterock.
Anyone interested, I'll be looking for a balanced party of 5 or 6 characters.

Ok good question mate and nice to see you on these boards.
32 point buy..any class from the PH and the Complete books except Samurai, Wu-jen, Shugenja, Ninja and Warlock. No Psionics.
Treat Knowledge (local) as a class skill for all classes
I'm not bothered how you do your dice rolls Invisible Castle or rolling at home is ok by me(I trust my players not to cheat)

Captain Cuddles |

Hi there Wellard. I'm from a bit further down the country (Blackpool) and I'd be intersted in joining this. Big fan of Necromancer games. I would be up for playing almost anything really, but preferably either a dwarf fighter, a human ranger or possibly a half elven rogue. Would you be using 3.5 or Pathfinder rules?

Hi Captain, nice to hear from another British gamer(Dabblers in Gloucester and we go back a couple of years).
I'll probably run it as 3.5 as I'm still finding my way through Pathfinder and the differences it makes to the rules. Having said that I'll go with Pathfinder if the demand is there..it'll just be a steeper learning curve for me.
Dabbler, I'd advise you to grab the Pathfinder Alpha freedownload just in case

Yes 1st level...I'm almost certainly going with the Goodman Games stuff which appeals to my old school sensibilities.
We have two alternatives with this...I can run Castle Whiterock which is designed to take PCs from 1st to 15th level or I can cobble together various Dungeonn Crawls into an adventure path...
The more I read, the more I like the pathfinder stuff so lets go with it(gotta learn it sometime)and we'll go for the racial hitpoint modifiers I think
Dabbler Asimar and Tieflings are ok..any of the low ECL races shouldn't unbalance things too much. But nothing from the Enviroment or Races splat books.
Rusty, welcome aboard. I have no problems with DMing for players in different time zones and I intend to post two to three times a day most days..I work shifts so the times I post will vary wildly from week to week(as Dabbler well knows) but I'll let you all know what the schedule will be as and when it changes

Hello, may I join you? I'm Swedish and would like to play a paladin or a wizard if possible. I'm curious about the Pathfinder rules but have no trouble with 3.5.
Unfortunately I own and have read Castle Whiterock (which looks like a great module), but I have very few Goodman modules other than that.

I'm interested.
How would you combine the more powerful Pathfinder base classes with the 3.5 classes from the Complete books? (I've never played a Duskblade, a Spirit Shaman, or a Spellthief, and I'd like the opportunity to try one.)
Does Goodman games have a campaign world, or will you be running this in Golarion?

Larcifer |

I would like to go Swashbuckler for 3 levels then into Monk, I want to use this template to simulate a light fighter, a musketeer/Zorro type..I am very intrested in this experiment to see if it is a workable option...
I am also open to anything so if this is not an option to use feats from the dragon compendium it is also fine.

So is this the group we have so far?
DM - Wellard
Players
1) Dabbler
2) Captain Cuddles Dwarf fighter or Human Ranger or Half-Elf Rogue
3) Black Tom - Paladin or Wizard
4) Rusty - Bard
5) Larcifer - swashbuckler/monk?
6?) Chris Mortika?
Is that right?
FYI Wellard
I have DM'd Dungeon Crawl Classics #31 - Transmuter's Last Touch about three times for different groups. So I'm requesting we cross that one off the list of possibilities as well. :)

Dabbler |

Looks about right, Rusty. I can construct something to fill any gaps, so I volunteer to go last on character picking.
What I will say about the 'Complete' series classes are that they tend to be better balanced than the PHB classes, which the Pathfinder has tried to address by beefing up the fighting classes. You may find that the swashbuckler is underpowered compared to the Pathfinder fighter, for example. However I don't really see this as a problem - I'd rather have an interesting character than a powerful one.
Edit: Chris talked about a Duskblade, a Spirit Shaman, or a Spellthief which are all reasonably balanced classes (recommend the spirit shaman, I am playing one in an Eberron games).

Chris..welcome.
I think the pathfinder additions make don't really unbalance the Core Classes with regard to the splat book types..but I'm willing to consider stuff on a case by case basis.
As to campaign worlds I'm tempted to use the Wilderlands from JG/Necromancer.Mainly because my maps of the Goodman World have corrupted.
OK people, I'm moving this to a discussion thread so we can do character creation. find it here

Black Tom |

I thought I wouldn't clutter the new thread so I'll write here. It looks like we're going to be well stocked with combat-oriented characters so I think I'll go sorcerer (or wizard, but the Pathfinder sorcerer kind of intrigues me).
So what are the character creation rules? Are we using the standard 32 point buy or the Pathfinder 25 point buy? Standard races, I suppose (not Wilderlands ones)?

![]() |

Well now we've gone to PF I guess we had better go with the 25 point buy..and lets stick to the standard races as I'm not sure that everyone is familiar with the Wilderlands ones.
Take any further dicussion to the other thread guys
Clive sorry I missed you...I have you as first reserve if anything goes pear shaped.
