Just for clarification purposes, Baas & Ixius are in the room, or at most, just a little into the passage, right? You're letting the zombies come to you?

It was/is Keliwyn's plan to go through the barracks into the other tunnel. How long would you estimate that to take, Mr. DM?

Where is Esteban during all this?

It sounds like Baas has charged down the passage and met a zombie there.

Esteban refused to come down into the tunnels. At this point, he and Hurg are at the front of the station house successfully fending off three guards who tried to sneak back to loot the Gorse's office. You, of course, have no way of knowing that.

Tarren, how long would it take her to get back out of this place?

Probably about 4 rounds to get all the way out.

Keliwyn, I asked the same question earlier and here is the answer.

Keliwyn, I asked the same question earlier and here is the answer.

Keliwyn wants to get out and then get back into the tunnels through the other barracks. That will probably be closer to 6 or 7 rounds if he goes at full tilt. Then he has to find Petrune.

Male Elf Rogue 5

"Fippin!" Keliwyn yells, frozen in mid-tunnel, "Do you think the other tunnel will connect?!? Maybe we should stand with the others and face the undead?"

I'm not trying to be intentionally difficult, I'm just trying to decide the best course of action.

Baas? We need an attack from you, I think?

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves about the best course of action. I think you all understand the situation, right?

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

It may not be that easy to circle back around. We should probably stay and deal with his damn undead.

Fippin wrote:

"...Or you could just leave me and my toys to live ... err ... exist in peace!" calls Petrune down the tunnel, apparently hearing Fippin's thoughts.

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

I'd be okay with that, but I don't really want Sykala to get herself killed here.

Fippin wrote:

Aw. What about Baas?

Speaking of Baas...

His momentum is barely slowed by the weak flailing of rotting arms, seeing the lack of room to maneuver, he draws a throwing axe, attempting to lodge it in what remains of the zombie's skull.

Attack & Damage: (1d20+8=18, 1d6+3=8)

Are there roots in the walls of the tunnels here? She is contemplating casting entangle on the passage Petrune's voice isn't coming from.

Not to worry Fip, Sykala has no intention of dying uselessly here.

Sykala wrote:

The tunnels are underneath the clearing but there probably are some longer roots from the plants in the jungle or roots of plants that have been pulled but left roots behind.

Sorry guys, but Petrune isn't giving up easily. He's fresh, he knows the terrain, he has a horde of zombies, and he's got some kind of motivation to stay.

As Baas takes one of the zombies to the ground, another one moves forward to take its place.

"Sorry fools, but I'm not giving up easily. You've worn yourself out. I haven't. I know these tunnels. You do not. My friends outnumber yours. The day is mine."

Sykala will cast entangle on the zombies coming from the direction opposite where Petrune is. DC 15 reflex save or gain entangled condition. The intention is to keep the zombies off of Baas' back while he mows his way toward Petrune.

The zombies grown louder as roots burst out of the walls and roof of the mineshafts and latch onto them. If only they were clever enough to duck down!

Baas has no way of knowing how entangled they are. The zombie nearest the T-intersection would get an AoO if Baas tried to move through the square. At this point though, a zombie is preventing Baas from moving into the T intersection.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

I'm a little lost here guys. Ixius is at the T-intersection? One way are Baas, zombies and Petrune, and the other way are more entangled zombies? If so:

Ixius stands at the entrance to the tunnel away from Baas and waits for any zombies to approach.

If any come within melee range he claws at them with his electric claws.

Touch attack: 1d20+4=5

Burning his last spell.

Ixius wrote:

Perhaps I'm getting confused too. I thought the party began to retreat to the chamber with the hidden entrance to the tunnels, changed their minds, and began to return to the T intersection. During that time, the zombies moved in and now Baas is trying to regain lost ground.

The narrow tunnels mean that only one person can fight at a time in melee. A bit of a mess for you guys.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ah, ok. That makes sense then.

I think your right Tarren. That's how I understand it too.

To speed things up a bit, I'm going to ask Baas to give us five attack rolls. I don't want everyone waiting while Baas attacks. Everyone else who wants to do something can tell us their intentions for the five rounds.

The zombie that stumbled forward to replace the fallen zombie misses as he attacks Baas.

New round -- Init. Baas (8); Zombies (5).

Baas slashes away at the zombies, hearing cracking bones and rotting flesh giving way to his handaxe.

Attack & Damage: (1d20+8=18, 1d6+3=8, 1d20+8=21, 1d6+3=9, 1d20+8=21, 1d6+3=7, 1d20+8=10, 1d6+3=4, 1d20+8=16, 1d6+3=5)

That should be four good hits!

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin will just move in behind Bass and be ready to heal him if he starts to look injured.

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1
Fippin wrote:

Hooray!

Male Elf Rogue 5

Keliwyn looks from Fippin, back across the room to the tunnel out, and back to the others. "Okay we stand here," he says. Turning towards the others, he stands a little taller, and yells, "Baas! Come back to the room! Let them come to us so we can fight together! We can hold at this room!"

Baas and the zombies hack away at each other. Baas attacks with a handaxe, the zombies with dirt covered hands with jagged over-grown fingernails.

As one zombie falls another steps forward to take its place. When it too falls, Baas finds the other remaining zombies are moving back toward where Petrune's voice came from in response to a shout from Petrune.

Baas takes 10 points of damage from three successful scratches but has managed to take out a second and third zombie.

Sykala nods to Baas that she is ready to follow him into the fray.

My posting may be infrequent until Friday night. Sorry.

Back early.

Well, what do you want to do. To your left, there are some zombies entangled by the roots of various jungle plants. The zombies to your right are shuffling back down the tunnel around the bend ... towards where Petrune's voice came from.

Waiting on Baas and the others. Sykala is ready to follow them up or to lead if they mill about indecisively.

P.S. Welcome back

Male Elf Rogue 5

"Sykala," Keliwyn calls out as nods toward the western tunnel, "how long will those zombies be held back? Do we have enough time to go after the others?"

Keliwyn of Korvosa wrote:

Sykala nods and for the sake of the other speaks in broken common, "They stuck. Many not get us. One...two maybe get free. Not much. Think we safe. Stay stuck until we get Petrune."

Someone want to act for Baas?

Male Half-Orc Fighter 1/Rogue 1

Baas moves slowly forward, moving at the zombie's speed, trying to knock a few more down before they leave the corridor. He shouts back at the group: "Do we push forward, or do we regroup?"

Hack & Slash: (1d20+9=24, 1d6+4=7)

Sykala answers, "We kill Petrune."

Although Baas lands a solid hit on the zombie, it continues to shuffle off around the bend, towards Petrune's voice.

Baas can get another hit it if he follows. I'll need an initiative roll for anyone following the zombie. Also, what are you guys doing for a light source again?

Fippin wrote:

Baas has been somewhat injured for a while.

Initiative: 1d20+2=3 Guess that makes sense since she towards the back of the group.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius is right behind Baas with his rapier lit up.

Initiative: 1d20+3=15

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

Fippin sacrifices his hold person spell for a cure moderate wounds, healing Baas.

2d8+4=15

That's his last second level spell for the day gone.

Keliwyn nods his head and says, "In for a cooper, in for a gold," and moves up behind the others.

Initiative 1d20=5+4=9

So, uh, how many zombies are there ahead of us?

It quite suddenly becomes more difficult to see in the tunnel. At first, it looks like the light is growing dim but soon you realize fog is billowing from around the bend.

Through the rolling fog, you can see the shambling figures of two of Petrune's pets. There may be more but you can't see much beyond a few feet. You can hear the slobbering groans of the restless dead and something else besides ... Petrune's low voice speaking in an inhuman tongue.

Beat initiative 7 to act before Petrune.

Is there enough room for some earthbreaker action?

Not me. Waiting for everyone INCLUDING Petrune to go. Distracted by a rare root she just saw sticking out of the wall that makes a great catfish seasoning when ground up.

EDIT: Was so distracted by aforementioned root that even the big brute Baas was able to sneak up and ninja her.

On the zombies? Sure. You can't see Petrune. You can hear him.

Two zombies stand one behind the other in the cloud of fog. Baas is within melee distance of them. The rest of you are behind him with little room to maneuver in the narrow tunnel. Somewhere behind the zombies, Petrune chants.

Initiative:
Baas (21)
Fippin (13)
Keliwyn (9)
Petrune (7)
Ixius (6)
Sykala (3)
Zombies (0)

Male Halfling Ranger 1/Cleric 4

On his turn Fippin uses the last 20' of his teleport movement for the day to teleport to the other side of the two zombies near Petrune. He then uses stealth to stay hidden and try to move closer to the mage so that he can attack him the next round from surprise with his shortsword.

Stealth: 1d20+10=23

Male Elf Rogue 5

On his turn, Keliwyn will try to use his agility to tip toe & maneuver past the two (hopefully one, after Baas lays the smack down) zombies to try and get closer to Petrune.

Acrobatics 1d20=13+8=21, 1d20=14+8=22

NPCing Baas.

Baas lands a solid blow with the earthbreaker, bringing it down hard enough to crunch the bones and tear the sinews of one of the zombies.

Fippin finds himself in the fog between two zombies. From the sound of Petrune's voice, he knows he teleported closer, but not close enough. There's still one more zombie to pass before he reaches him.

Keliwyn, likewise, has managed to slip closer to Petrune, but not close enough.

EDIT: I'm thinking I was probably unclear. You can only see about 5' in the fog. So you could only see two zombies at most. There was a third before Petrune.

Petrune finishes incanting his spell, releasing several darts of greenish grey energy that blast through the fog and strike Baas with unerring accuracy.

18 points of damage.
