Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Keliwyn pokes the creature with his rapier and Sykala causes it to twitch slightly but it creeps forward and snatches one of the 'consortium boys' up in his claws. The man looks to be a simple worker and unless he is hiding something is not prepared to defend himself agains the dragon-like creature's attack.
Round 3
Keliwyn 20 (NOT SOBER)
Baas 13 (NOT SOBER)
Ixius 13 (NOT SOBER)
Fippin 12 (SOBER)
Sykala 11 (SOBER)
Big-ugly-flapping thing 5
From the walkway all can hear "Burn it! Its gone Bryneth ... gods be watching! Someone help!!"
Sykala and Keliwyn are in a position to attack the creature this round.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Since the creature isn't threatening him, and he is too drunk to shoot straight, Ixius just watches it, also looking for the bird Sykala turned into.
How big is it? And how far away? Do I see Sykala?
"There is a big flying reptile thing out here!" he tells Fippin.
The creature has moved outside of view of those inside Benbow's Wheelhouse ... it is quite near to the front door that you came through.

Fippin |

Fipping will head down stairs, calling for the others to follow. When he gets down he'll head for the door to the street, but stop and peer out the door first to make sure he isn't running into danger.
"Gents, I think we might be of more use downstairs. I'm going down to have a better look at what's going on."

Fippin |

When Fippin gets near the door he will certainly hear the thing (as it is near the door). He'll want to get a quick look at it to see what the situation is and what they are up against, but he's in no hurry to go into melee against some monster. Once he gets a look, he'll likely want to use the doorway for cover and then cast a spiritual weapon spell.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Sykala |

With a frustrated screech Sykala flies back to within 30'feet of the critter and unleashes a second stronger crack of lightning. Come on beast I am trying to help you, she thinks to herself. She's still at the elevation of the second story window.
2nd lightning arc touch attack on flyin critter (1d20+5=19, 1d6+2=7)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

The second arc of lightning emanating from the eagle manages to get the beast's attention. It drops the man from the Aspis consortium on the walkway and turns on Keliwyn, mistakenly believing him to be the cause of the lightning.
The dragonnel slashes Keliwyn with one of its claws for 13 points of damage. You've got his attention now but have dropped your rapier.
Baas can take two attacks this round as he missed one. Ixius and Fippin can join in the melee if they wish.
As Fippin throws the door open, a crossbow bolt whizzes just over his head and sticks in the neck of the dragonnel. From behind the counter, Bender Bowman gives a self-congratulatory 'Whoop!!'.
Round 4
Keliwyn 20 (NOT SOBER)
Baas 13 (NOT SOBER)
Ixius 13 (NOT SOBER)
Fippin 12 (SOBER)
Sykala 11 (SOBER)
Big-ugly-flapping thing 5

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Ixius fires two shots at the beast:
First Shot: 1d20+2=16 Damage:1d8+3=4 if flanking: 1d6=3 sneak attack damage
Second Shot: 1d20+2=9
attack modifier: +5 +1 (point blank shot within 30') -2 (rapid shot) -2 (drunk) = +2 ?
The first of Ixius' shots hits.
No flanking bonus as of yet but you could always try to set one up. Doing so would probably involve moving through some threatened squares, however.
Map as I understand it. Note that this thing has reach. It's big. Not sure where Baas is on the map.

Fippin |

Fippin casts Spiritual weapon from the safety of the entrance to the tavern.
When it appears it attacks- 1d20+5= 11 (9 damage if that hit)
The next round Fippin imbues Ixius with luck, which means for 3 rounds he can roll two dice for all his rolls and take the better result and his weapon will attack again
I rolled a 2 for the second attack, I'm pretty sure a 7 is a miss.

Baas |

Baas drops from the window and steps forward to the creature dropping his bow and pulling out his Earth breaker. When the creature comes close he lashes out with two tremendous blows.
Note: Baas is extremely focused and though he is raging from a mechanics perspective, appears perfectly (almost too) calm
Round 2
Drop to the ground (take 10) and get in a good position to watch the flying creature
Round 3
Rage, then make an overhand chop attack with my earth breaker
Attack Roll
Raging overhand chop with Earth breaker (1d20+10=24)
Damage
Raging overhand chop with Earth breaker (2d6+11=16)
Round 4
overhand chop attack with my earth breaker
Attack Roll
Raging overhand chop with Earth breaker Attack roll (1d20+10=30)
damage
Raging overhand chop with Earth breaker (2d6+11=15)
-2 to attacks keep forgetting to make that adjustment

Sykala |

Seeing the arrows pierce the majestic beast the eagle lets out a more plaintiff cry. She flies 30' in an arc over the water maintaining her distance and with a crackle lightning again envelopes her and lances toward her target.
3rd lightning arc touch attack on critter (1d20+5=13, 1d6+2=7)

Baas |

Ah, yeah, thanks, wasn't paying enough attention. Trying to catch up with a few available minutes online
Crit Confirmation roll (1d20+10=27).
So potentially 45 points on attack 2. ouch. Too bad I forgot to use my powerful blow ability, that would have netted be 12 more points, but hopefully he will go down

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Fippin's attacks with his spiritual weapon (what form is that weapon taking Fippin?) miss.
Sykala scars the creature with a blast of her lightning.
Then the big man comes and pounds the creature hard and then harder.
I believe Keliwyn has a turn left this round. It can happen simultaneously with this creature's turn.
The dragonnel's long neck allows it to whip its beak around and chomp down on Baas (13 points of damage).
Keliwyn, however, is in bigger trouble. Even angrier than before and severely wounded, the dragonnel grabs Keliwyn with both of its talons digging its claws in until it passes out and begins to flap.
Keliwyn has been grappled. His attack will come before he was grappled. If the creature survives until its next round than Keliwyn is in big trouble.
Keliwyn's turn then round 5.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

With Keliwyn's attack out of the way, we will finish the dragonel's turn. The dragonel does damage on its grapple attack; (Or, rather, it grapples on its successful claw attacks). Keliwyn takes 17 points of damage from the vicious talons and is now unconscious. He is in the talons of the dragonnel who is attempting to get off the ground with Keliwyn in its talons -- perhaps to drop him as it dropped the man you saw fall past the window.
ROUND 5
Keliwyn 20 (NOT SOBER -- unconscious and grappled)
Baas 13 (NOT SOBER)
Ixius 13 (NOT SOBER)
Fippin 12 (SOBER)
Sykala 11 (SOBER)
Big-ugly-flapping thing 5

Ixius |

Ixius pumps two more arrows:
Ranged attack with luck:1d20+2=6, 1d20+2=3
The luck rule is somewhat tricky. If don't take the second roll (which I don't since they both miss), can I roll twice again?
Again: 1d20+2=16, 1d20+2=8
The first roll hit anyway
Damage: 1d8+3=5
Since I used the first roll again, am I still feeling lucky?

Fippin |

As I understand it from reading the ability. The luck lasts for 3 rounds. During those 3 rounds you roll 2 times for every attack you make and take the better result of the two rolls.
Sorry it didn't help Ix much with his first shot.
Fippin's spiritual weapon is one of those star knife weapons.
Fippin unslings his bow and strings it (full round action I assume)

Level Ability
1st Bit of Luck (Su): As a standard action, you can
touch a creature giving it a bit of luck. For the next
3 rounds, any time the target rolls a d20, he can
roll twice and take the better result. The target
must decide to use this ability before rolling the
dice. This effect fades after 3 rounds or when the
reroll is used. Once a target has been affected by
bit of luck, he gains no further benefit from it for 1
day.
I'd say you spent your luck as the second attempt at the first attack (the 16) was a success. Therefore "a reroll has been used".

Sykala |

This effect fades after 3 rounds or when the
reroll is used.
Since you didn't say who the spoiler was for I read it! ;-p I think this is the key phrase. You only get to use the reroll once (meaning for only one particular roll) within the next 3 rounds or it's wasted. Success or failure of the rolls have no bearing on whether it is used or not. My 2 cents.
I am waiting for Baas' action and Fippins spiritual weapons before I post what I do.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

** spoiler omitted **
I am waiting for Baas' action and Fippins spiritual weapons before I post what I do.
Everybody reads spoilers. It's just your character doesn't know what the spoilers contain.
Okay. This is confusing. Does it mean that when you reroll and you use the second die your luck has been expended or can you continue to reroll anytime you roll a d20 until the reroll has been helpful?

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

I think we're all reading it the same way, but the lawyer in me thinks the language could be tighter.
As a standard action, you can touch a creature giving it a bit of luck. For the next 3 rounds, any (meaning any one time, or every time? To me, it's the latter, and 'each' would be the better word here) time the target rolls a d20, he can roll twice and take the better result. The target must decide to use this ability before rolling the dice. This effect fades after 3 rounds or when the reroll is used (so, he gets double rolls, but only gets to the use second roll once.) Once a target has been affected by bit of luck, he gains no further benefit from it for 1 day.
Basically, he gets three rounds to use double rolls to get a better result. After he gets that better result once or the three rounds pass, luck runs out.

Fippin |

I hadn't read the last part of it clearly. It is kind of confusing. I guess once you've used a reroll that actually allowed you to succeed where you would have failed then the effect fades.
Fippin's spiritual weapon can keep attacking for 4 rounds, but if the thing has taken to the air I don't think it can keep up with it. However, the weapon might get an attack of opportunity as the creature flies away.
Attack of opportunity- 16 to hit, 6 damage

Sykala |

It says the effect fades once the reroll is used and previously states that you have to decide before rolling the dice whether to use the reroll or not. So I read it as a one shot sort of deal that you get to decide with in a three round time allotment on when to use it. After all it's just a bit of luck.
Actually I try to hold off on reading spoilers until they have no bearing on the situation and even then avoid ones that will impact long term roleplaying. For example, I haven't read any of the spoilers on anyones characters. Not a value judgement, I just like to discover most of that stuff through character interaction. Quite curious about all the characters actually.

Ixius |

So, how are we going to interpret the bit of luck rule?
I think we have two ways:
1. As soon as you choose to roll twice for one attack, your luck runs out, no matter what the result of either roll is. In this case I am now rolling once for each attack.
2. It runs out when you actually use the second roll to resolve the attack, in which case I am still rolling twice.
Tarren it's your call.

Keliwyn of Korvosa |

You know, there really is an inconsistency in two parts of the description:
As a standard action, you can touch a creature giving it a bit of luck. For the next 3 rounds, any time the target rolls a d20, he can roll twice and take the better result. The target must decide to use this ability before rolling the dice. This effect fades after 3 rounds or when the reroll is used . Once a target has been affected by bit of luck, he gains no further benefit from it for 1 day.
The first part makes me think you get to reroll once, otherwise, why have this language? If a player could reroll every d20 until one hits, there's no need to say this. But the second part makes me think you get more than one chance to reroll, afterall. As it reads, I would say you could potentially announce that you are going to use the ability every roll if you wanted. It's probably written this way because there may be a situation where you don't want to use the ability; where you'd rather save it.

Sykala |

I'm going for option 2 for now but think the wording could be clearer. It is probably option 1 but I would rather err on the side of the players...Makes me feel less guilty when you die ... bruhahahh hahack cough hack acch.

Baas |

Continuing rage and another overhand chop
Another attack against flying beastie. (1d20 10=26, 2d6 10=18)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Bender Bowman bursts out of the Wheelhouse carrying a massive crossbow that he has torn loose from under the bar. More to the tavern patrons who are beginning to get the courage to poke their heads out the window, then to himself or you he says "Ah-Hah!! Took long enough for that bolt of mine to bring him down but there it is!".
He finds his crossbow bolt, shoves it deeper into the creature and then pulls it out with an exaggerated tug saying "Woah! That's in there deep!".
Keliwyn remains unconscious and losing hp at 1 per round. The Aspis Consortium man that the dragonnel dropped when Sykala attacked has gotten to his feet and is in a frantic discussion with some other similarly dressed gentlemen.

Sykala |

Sykala sees Baas make sure the beast is dead with a final fatal skull crushing blow. She lands next to Keliwyn and transforms back into a woman. She places a hand over the puncture wounds left by the claws and utters something in a language none understand.
Those with knowledge (religon) recognize it as a prayer to Gozreh in druidic.
cure light wounds for Keliwyn (1d8+4=10)
As he awakes she says to him, "You leap into jaws of lion, not good way live."
She turns to the beast, "When tear open wasp nest, expect be stung."
She then begins to cut off bloody hunks of meat from the dragonne

"Thank you, eagle women," Keliwyn says. "I really thought I was finished. The cards were falling well for me tonight, but the moment I opened that door, I knew lady luck had left me. You have my thanks, and I am in your debt."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Fippin still isn't clear on exactly what we were fighting. Was it two creatures or one? What exactly did it look like?
Anyhow, steps out from the doorway as the Aspis guys approach, but he goes over to Keliwyn and casts a cure moderate wounds healing him for 12 hp.
It was one creature. Perhaps I should be clearer in my descriptions.
The Aspis Consortium men walk right past Fippin, not taking any notice of him, and greet Sykala, Keliwyn, Bass, and Ixius: "The four of you saved our friend's life! By all the gods, that was impressive. We are grateful. Give us your names friends so that we may see you are properly rewarded."

Ixius |

Ixius stays silent for a moment, not completely sure if he should trust the strangers with his name. He does agree that Bass' mighty blows, Sykala turning into a lightning shooting eagle, and the bravery of Keliwyn were all impressive. He also knows the halfling's touch helped his shooting, poor as it was.

Sykala |

She smiles and nods at Keliwyn's words.
Sykala turns with arms covered in blood from her grizzily work. Points to herself, "Sy-kala". She then holds up a bloody piece of dragonne meat, "you eat some kill with us?"
She looks over at Baas and says with a very serious but approving look, "Good kill, you make quick. Good hunter instinct, not let suffer. Think beast sick (pointing to her own head leaving a trail of blood across her forehead), not eat kills, (pointing toward the man originally dropped by their window) not run."

As Sykala begins to butcher the dragonnel in the middle of one of the main walkways in Bloodcove people begin to stare; not because butchering a kill in the walkway is so uncommon but because of the size of this particular kill. Sykala notices a rouge stain on the creature's snout that is not blood.
One of the consortium men says "We ... well normally we would ... 'eat some kill' with you but ... fortunately ... unfortunately I mean our friend is exhausted. ... We do want to reward you for saving our friend, though."
Bender pops up at this point "Reward, well gentlemen, awfully nice of you to offer but ..."
The men ignore him and continue "How could we find you again?"
Keliwyn, you've gotten drunk, exerted yourself, been smashed and slashed by a big lizard, and been dropped on the walkway. Make another Fortitude save with the same DC or toss your cookies in front of the nice men from the consortium.
