I always felt the maps in the book while really nice but needed that pull out of the beeches look to them. Make them look like some fantasy mapmaker like Veznett Parooh at The Way North just dusted it off. I used Black Spectrum style map, buildings and all. Thank you to them. I kept the area slightly smaller than the adventure will go, simply because there should be some things off the map.

So did you just copy his style, or did you actually cut and paste some of his art for the little buildings and trees and such?
The drawings of the little buildings have a mostly "Medieval Northern Europe" look. They look good for the towns.
It would be cool to throw a few Shoanti yurts (or whatever) onto the map. Maybe a picture of a Varisian wagon along a road. And a few pictures of the old ruins.
Your lines look really good, they're pretty faithful to the published maps. Did you draw the rivers and coasts freehand? Or were you able to import or trace something from one of the published maps?
I've always liked the old-fashioned style of map with the sea monsters hanging out in the oceans, etc. If I had the drawing software and the skills, I would probably give this a try.

I thought of doing the sea monsters and wagons and such but wanted to stay on target. The shaky lines are from an effect in Adobe Illustrator called roughen. And I used it in a variety of strengths to get the coastline and hand drawn on paper look as I drew the buildings. I used the ones from Black Spectrum as a template. Lets say these are an imitation of those great maps. I suppose I should put some roads in but I may not.
