Useful Utility Spell for a 1 level dip in Crossblooded Sorcerer

Advice

Dark Archive

So I have a Kitsune Oracle (spirit guide) X / Sorcerer (crossblooded) 1 character. I get 1 level 1 sorcerer spell and wanted some advice for something that provides utility out of combat. My spell failure chance will be ~30% sitting in my mithral Kikko and carrying a heavy darkwood shield, so I'd prefer something that has utility or all day effects to mitigate it failing in the middle of combat. I was thinking the following spells make a lot of sense, but perhaps others have an opinion? I'll be getting all the magical tail feats so I'll have lots of SLA through the day.

- Endure Elements (put on myself and my tiger and can be done at the beginning of the day with no failure chance assuming I take my armour off). Probably my best bet, perma endure elements for me and my tiger

- Comprehend Languages

- Crafters Fortune (just to bump my dayjob)

- Silent Image

- Heightened Awareness

- Keep Watch (on tiger during sleeping though being attacked in the night doesn't happen in PFS as far as I can tell)

- Mount

What are your Sorcerer bloodlines?

- infernal healing
- endure elements

Not level dependent and no saves involved.

Heh. Blood Money is a first level spell....

I highly doubt Blood Money is legal. But otherwise funny.

Sovereign Court

Rite of the centered mind? Or any other spell without the somatic component?

I've picked up Fey/Serpentine to pump the DCs to enchantments and make them affect more things. Most of my enchantments are coming from the magical tails (oracle has a few interesting ones command/murderous command, hold person, and mind maze which will be most of what I get before PFS retirement). But the tails will give me confusion, charm, suggestion, and dominate person as 2/day SLA.

The wrecking Mysticism curse also ends up giving me minor image, ventriloquism, and magic jar before PFS retirement.

The Spirit Guide archetype will let me bounce between the Ancestor Spirit (gives me all INT skills off CHA with a hex, add in a circlet of persuasion for skill monkeying) or the Slums Spirit (1/day additional charm person, hold person, and confusion).

All my oracles spells are with a CL = HD and my sorcerer spells will be at CL2. This is thanks to a trait I took (+1 CL to two classes).

I picked up a tiger with my first revelation, prophetic armour at level 3 with the Extra revelation feat but if the Tiger isn't cutting it I may retrain it to the moon bridge and use the revelation as a wall of force for battlefield control.

A quick search gives me the following as non-somatic spells: feather fall, hold portal, true strike (personal only?), ventriloquism (will get at oracle level 5 from curse), flare burst (this sounds fun but the DC will be terrible), liberating command.

To be honest, liberating command seemed enticing, but it'll only be a +4 to grappled allies, which isn't as good as me holding a wand of grease and covering everyone's armour in grease as needed.

It does say Blood Money is legal on the Archives of Nethys, but unfortunately somatic/needs to be used in the same round as casting. Presumably you'd use this to be a necromancer and avoid paying material costs?

Haha. I have a Sorcerer/Oracle Kitsune build almost exactly like what you're talking about. For flavor reasons, I went with the Dark Tapestry Mystery, picking up Gift of Madness, the armor revelation, and wings as my first three.

With my build, I went with Shield for the 1st level spell just to help with AC since the character had a super low Str and needed all the light weight AC buffs she could get.

Hypnotism is a spell that have lots of out-of-combat possibilities and mesh with your Enchantment (Compulsion) focus.

As for Oracle spells that are fun with this kind of build, consider some of these:

Compassionate Ally: Cast on the enemy archer/caster hanging in the back so he/she has to come and render first aid on the melee people you're beating on, thereby putting the archer/caster in melee range.

Charitable Impulse: Target starts giving away all of his/her equipment. If the duration is long enough, it will include the target trying to take off their armor/clothing to give away.

Terrible Remorse: Target beats on him or her self every round.

Greater Command (at the end of your PFS career): like Command, but affects multiple targets and lasts rounds per level.

Greater Forbid Action: same as Greater Command.

Actually, I don't think Blood Money is PFS legal.

It's primary use is for things like casting Wish without having to spend gold on the material component.

It isn't. It used to be but what removed some time ago.

I'd be thinking Mage Armor or Endure Elements. I took Shield for my similar dip, but you can't share it with your AC (where you can with a familiar) and you'd have to eat the spell failure chance, so that's less compelling.

For PFS, Heightened Awareness is best in a wand.

Blood Money is no longer legal in PFS. So good in a home game.

for a useful first level Sor/Wiz spell out of combat I'd suggest;

* Mage Armor - obvious.
* Infernal Healing - obvious.
* Unseen Servant - It can fetch wands and pull items for you during combat and has a long duration. Movement rate is slow.
* Crafter's Fortune(PFS) - plus 5 day job checks in PFS.

for more combat try;
* Illusion of Calm - yeah, I'm doing nothing (lol - casting, casting...).
* Break - better than Shatter.
* Color Spray, swap it out later.
* Shield, but a Wand is pretty good too and doesn't provoke...
* Long Arm - gives you 5ft of reach and you can swap it out for Spectral Hand, but reach isn't a bad thing.

Silent Image or Heightened Awareness all the way.

The Archives of Nethys are sometimes a bit dated when it comes to saying what is or isn't legitimate for PFS. Hope the site moderator(s) finds some free time in the near future since I really like the layout.

I do like Terrible Remorse. I'm not sure if I can rationalize greater command over breath of life for my one and only level 5 spell before retiring. But at that point I'll have dominate person from my tails.

I don't think there is anything on the oracle list I will take that actually has any expensive material components anyways so I won't need Blood Money.

I thought about Mage Armour for my Animal Companion, but honestly, Darkleaf Lamellar Barding is about the same price and always on. I'll be sitting in Medium Armour with a Shield. While it could help others in the party, they should probably invest in their own AC or suffer the consequences. As well, 2 casting only gets me 4 hours in a day. Endure Elements on me and my tiger at least allows me to avoid needing to use up scenario items that are often in limited supply.

On a fun side note, if I do retrain level 1 then I can pick inflict + the Touch of the Moon and start giving out touch attack confusion. That could be fun and aligned with my character concept.

Trues Strike is my choice. It lacks the somatic component, so is not effected by arcane spell failure chance in your armor.

Liberty's Edge

A few months late, but I would definitely go for feather fall.

It has no somatic component, and you can't use a wand or scroll for it like you can your other choices.

You need it rarely, but when you do, it saves lives.
