Whilst looking over the character classes, it occurred to me that ALL classes should be proficient with simple weapons. Except for Druid, Monk, and Wizard, they all are.
Why?
1. In MM - ALL humanoids are proficient with simple weapons. So, you're actually taking away a proficiency that all races should already have.
2. SIMPLE weapons. Emphasize SIMPLE. These are base weapons that don't require a lot of skill to wield. There's little logic for a monk to be excluded from using light maces when he can use nunchaku. Or a wizard who can use a club . . . or a druid for that matter.
3. Restricting access to simple weapons is artificial and non-sensical.
It just makes sense to me.

Agree
(Although Druid might be able to use some weapons but not allowed to by their faith - are they still restricted from using metal weapons? - I don't ever play Druids.)

I think that the restriction you are talking about is with metal armor. Druids may use metal weapons . . . the issue is that they lack the proficiency to use many weapons.

Been doing it this way for awhile with no problems, in fact it solves some problems, such as monks technically not being proficient with unarmed strikes.
Except that you're always proficient with unarmed strikes. More accurately, no proficiency is needed for them. I've seen this argument before, and I've never understood where it comes from.
As far as the primary topic here goes, though, I've been doing the same with my homebrew for years. All PCs get all simple weapons. I really think that Pathfinder should consider this change for the final release.

It's the easiest thing the add in too... it's not like suddenly a whole bunch of NPCs are going to need to be rewritten because they can now use a club.
I'd be all for this. Make a rule implying everyone is proficient with Simple weapons, and then give Martial/Exotic proficiencies as per the class/race.
Roll this in with making Exotic proficiency weapons actually mean something, as opposed to being weapons too hard to use normally but less effective than Martial weapons (such weapons would have been phased out of existence).
A tonfa that does the same damage as a club is just a club with a different look/name. If it gives shield AC, or can give bonuses to Stunning Blow, etc... then yeah, make it cost a feat or something. "Can be used as part of Flurry of Blows" is not worth a feat because anyone that can DO Flurry of Blows will already have proficiency with the weapon from the same class. Exotic Weapon feat cost should mean more than that.
