New Scaleable Feats!

New Rules Suggestions

I'm really looking for some feedback on this idea as I may implement it as a houserule.

Scaleable Feats!
These would be Feats with bonuses that would increase at various levels with the character. For example Improved trip would state that at 8th and 15th level the bonus to trip increases to +4 and +6 respectively.

Why create Scaleable Feats?
1. Currently I feel there are too many feats with bonuses that don't add much impact to the game at higher levels. This is especially a problem when feats are the Fighters bread and butter. I feel Fighters lack the punch at higher levels that Wizards and other classes do. Having fighters with Scaling Feats would give them "class abilities" that grow the same as the other classes.

2. Skill based feats are overlooked. My players rarely take skill feats over combat feats. I would like to see these skill feats hold their own against combat feats. An idea I've been tinkering with is giving the skill based feats an additional +1 every four levels starting at the level they take the feat. Example- Persuasive feat taken at third level would give the initial +2 to Diplomacy and Intimidate. At 7th lvl both skills would receive a +1 and agskill feats at lower lvls.
(This may work better every 5 lvls, not sure)

I plan on combing over the copious amount of feats and seeing which ones would be good to scale, especially for a fighter.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Monetary Handouts?

I think a Fighter's feats desperately need to do this to keep them competetive at higher levels. Some people really hate scaling feats because they add an extra level of complication, which I think is kind of nonsense because a Wizard's spell scale in damage or effect.

The issue is that are they only going to scale for the fighter, or will any class get to scale them in which case it doesn't do as much to help the fighter. Even so I understand the logic of it and think it's a good idea at least for the CMB feats which need some help desperately (well at least the offensive ones, the defensive one is too powerful already and doesn't need to scale)

(note- i don't expect most folks to like this idea, due to the upkeep it would require: but here goes)

I think it would be neat to have a few feats that went up in power based on how long you had them, rather than what level you are.

A scaleable weapon focus, for example, that gave you +1 to attack plus 1 for every (3? 4?) levels that you had the feat.

Taking it at 1st level would therefore be better than 5th level (or whataver).
The point would be: people with alot of feats could take more of them sooner and get more advantage out of them;
and it adds to realism somewhat in that the person focusing on the Longsword (for example) would be more adept at it than someone who only started concentrating on it recently.

The problem would be generating enough of the feats such that there would be worthwild choices to make. (otherwise folks would just take the 1-2 feats early and forget about them).

Small idea, and one not easily implemented.. but I like the thought of it at least. =)
