Barbarian Rage rule error?

Races & Classes

Under barbarian rage it indicates:

A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat.

This doesn't make sense to me since there is no "duration" assigned to the rage.

The way the rules are written now there are only 2 ways that a rage can end:

#1 - You run out of rage points during the encounter.
#2 - You "end" your rage as a free action and are now fatigued.

Given these two ways of ending rage, I don't see a way that you could "enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat"

Am I missing something or is this an error in the description?

Liberty's Edge

A barbarian player in my group has used this wording to propose shifting between levels of rage during a combat, providing she has the number of rage points available to spend.

Basically she has proposed that at higher levels, she will be able to enter into the basic Rage as combat begins, increase to Greater Rage when the Big Bad Boss comes on scene, then back down to Rage as the fight winds down, thus extending the duration of the rage by using fewer rage points and avoiding the fatigue condition as long as possible, should the combat last long enough for all of this to occur of course.

A barbarian could rage for one round, stop raging and be fatigued for 2 rounds, then rage again after the fatigue ends. The "fatigued" state lasts for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rage points spent during the rage.

I can see 4 ways this would occur there might be others:

#1 Tireless Rage at 17th level the barbarian is no longer fatigued after rage
#2 Roused Anger Rage power allows you to enter rage even while fatigued.
#3 Magical healing that relieves fatigue
#4 As someone pointed out waiting out your fatigue

Those are more or less ordered by likelyhood of relevance. Yes it will be uncommon but it might happen during a lull in combat or if the group thinks combat is over but a new threat emerges.

Ahh, that makes sense now thanks. I'm used to Rage having a set duration so the rule sort of confused me.

I've also had clever wizards shutting down raging Barbarians by casting "Touch of Fatigue" on them. Really ruins thier day when they fail the will save.
