Kill Bargle Playtest Diary

Alpha Release 3 General Discussion

Going to be starting a playtest on Myth-Weavers soon. The Campaign is just a simple homebrew one to test out Pathfinder.

Character generation works as follows.

Characters will start at 3rd Level.
20 point buy. Let's see how it works.
Starting Hitpoints will use the Racial variant found on page 14 of the P:A3.
Hit points for levels after first are determined by half-hit die +1 per level, or roll. Player choice
Deities will be used from P:A3, page 21
Experience progression will be based on the table on page 13, and using the Fast column.
All classes and races from P:A3 are allowed.
Starting gold is standard for 3rd level characters.

In the party we have

A Half Orc barbarian (Moi, and yes I know how cliche).
A Half Elf Infernal Sorceer
A Halfling Paladin
A Human Fighter
A Elf Rogue
And A Dwarf Monk

I will be getting the character builds from everyone else soon. Mine is as follows:
HP: 40
AC: 15 Flatfooted: 11 Touch: 14

STR: 16 (+2 for Racial)
DEX: 12
CON: 14
INT: 10 (-2 for Racial)
WIS: 10 (+2 for Racial)
CHA: 8

I hate 20 pt. buy.

Max Ranks in:
Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate (Wish I could get this higher), Knowledge Nature, Perception, and Survival.

Equipment:
Chain Shirt, Greatsword /w,Least Rubicund Frenzy Armor Crystal, X2 Potions of Enlarge Person, X2 Potions of Bulls Strength, X5 Potions of Cure Light Wounds

Feats:
Power Attack, Intimidating Prowess

As time goes on I'll update this.

WOE IS 20 pt buy!

But a question for you, do you really need a higher intimidate if you are taking intimidating prowess? I mean sure it would help at lower levels and whatnot.

Oh and your either a cliche or purposefully zany...might as well dance with the horse that brought ya... or ...wait...

Viktor_Von_Doom:
I've just been comparing your stats to Table 2-1 (Ability Score costs) in Alpha 3, and can't seem to work out where you've spent all your points, if you've used an Alpha 3 Pathfinder point buy.
I've tried it assuming you had already added the racials in, and then assuming you hadn't yet, and still can't get it to total twenty.
I don't know if you've maybe used another edition/game's point buy system, but if not check your maths as I think you may be able to put a point or two more into your stats.

Edit:
Just carried out some quick research and it seems to me that you may have used a 20 point buy from the ability scores table in the 3.5 DMG. This table is not the same as the Alpha 3 one, giving you less for your points as it starts off from a lower baseline. (0 points for an '8' rather than Alpha 3's 0 points for a '10'.)

And how could you max out 6 skills?
Barbarian = 4 + INT = 0 == 4!?
Or am I missing something?

My stats

CH:11[-2RACE]

HP:32
AC:15[+2 DEX +3 WIS] TOUCH/FF:13
ATT:UNARMARED STRIKE +3 or +1/+1
Saves: F:+5 R:+6 W:+6

Feats: Bounes : Deflect arrows,Improved grapple. Normal: Improved trip,Improved disarm.

Skills:
Acrobatics: +9[4R,+3 CLASS+2 DEX]
cLIMB:+5[1R+3 CLASS +1 STR]
ESCAPE ARTIST:+6[+1R +3 CLASS +2 DEX]
Know.History:+8 [+3R +3 CLASS +1 INT]

Your right, I did mess up on that.

I forgot the point buy is different, I'll fix that when I get home at noon.

I was making the character as I was making the thread, so I wrote that before I saw Intimidating Prowess.

The playtest is a bit bigger than he let on, looks like it will be multiple groups. I'm running a Half-Orc monk, Brother Valmor. Going to try to see if there's any point to using maneuvers at all, particularly grappling. I suspect there is not.
