3 / 3.5 WotC books in PDF form?

Off-Topic Discussions

Now that the release of 4e is imminent, I was wondering if WotC would be releasing its' stack of 3.5 books in PDF form. I see on the Paizo site that I can pick up all sorts of stuff from previous editions (2e, 1e, etc.) but there is no 3/3.5 books for sale in PDF form. Since after June 3.5 will no longer be considered a "viable" supported game will WotC release their "old" books in cheap PDF form?

I would love to get them for my comp, but the prices other online places charge are as bad as the dead tree versions, and I'd like to support Paizo with my purchases anyway. Are you folks putting any up in the near future like you have with the older "obsolete" editions?

PS: I couldn't figure where to drop this post, so I figured off-topic would be OK :)

Try RPGnow (www.rpgnow.com). I'm not sure why Paizo isn't carrying 3.0/3.5 but RPGnow has most books available.

Thanks Paul, but I did. I just can't bend my wallet to pay dead-tree prices for PDFs. They want 34.95 for the DMG in PDF form, and comparable prices for the others, I am hoping with the obsolecence of 3.5 that the PDF price will dive closer to the $4 mark like the previous edition books sell for on Paizo :)

That's the only price I've ever seen them at. It looks far more like a WotC decision and it's the main reason haven't bought any WotC PDFs. I've already spent that much on the books. I don't need a PDF that much. Stupid decision that makes perfect sense only if you don't consider the market for PDFs is different to the market for books. I don't understand the business mentality and it must be costing them a lot of sales, such as yours and mine.

Exactly. I am just hoping since it has been said ad nauseum that WotC won't support 3.5 anymore that they will relax their price restrictions. I have Planescape on PDF, which I got right here, and it helps when I am planning my next insidious DM move while pretending to work (a computer is a great mask for noodling off in an office). If they decide to offer the 3.5 PDFs at a more reasonable dowloading price I will be first in line.

<BUMP> Anyone know if the PDF versions of WotC's 3.5 books will be offered for sale at Paizo any time soon? If yes, what will the price point be? Inquiring monkeys want to know!

I highly doubt it. They had said in the past that the reason for the price was as to not undercut brick and mortar stores.

Agreed. But the 'brick & mortar' stores aren't going to be selling 3.5 stuff from WotC anymore. Paizo has a wonderful assortment of 1e/2e stuff nicely PDFed for a reasonable price ... I guess I am kinda hoping that now the WotC isn't supporting 3.5 anymore this can happen with those books as well.

Another reason you might have to wait a while for the prices of 3.5 pdf's to drop is that WotC doesn't want to undercut sales of 4e. By dropping the prices on 3.5 at the same time as the launch, they'd be giving people an incentive to not bother switching, at least for a while. I can see the prices coming down, but not until 4e is established.

<sigh> I guess so. Oh why must my digital dreams go unanswered? <sob>
