Monk's Quivering Palm

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 4

Suggestion: Monk's quivering palm should deplete the Monk's ki by a significant amount, and that amount should remain depleted until the kill-effect is activated. Please get rid of "x per week" restrictions, they are devilishly hard to keep track of and so end up in the "never used ability" pile.

Although "Quivering Palm, 1/week" has a long and storied legacy in D&D, I'm forced to agree here -- either make it 1/day or make it a 5-8 point ki burn instead. (In fact, you could even make it burn 1d4+4 ki points...hmmm...)

No variable costs.

I agree that /week stuff is not nice. Make it 1/day and maybe let it burn some ki (so you won't get it back until you've activated your ki strike). And of course, only one guy may walk around with your palm planted on his heart at once. If you make a new quivering palm strike, you choose to let the other guy off the hook or immediately let him make the save.

I think this could work even without the burn part. It's not as if there weren't any death effects out there.

Agreed.

Quivering Palm has always been strong, and it's lower level than the new bard and ranger kill effects. But it's usage has always been iffy.
Mostly, you use it immediately on a big bad, then hope you don't see another for seven days. :)

I like the 'only one active' idea.
And it certainly fits to have it use up a good amount of Ki.
Throw in 'and if the save is successful, cannot be affected again for 24 hour' boilerplate to boot.
