I wasn't sure where to place this and thought that thanking Paizo would probably be better here than in the Off-Topic Discussions forum since thanking them for good deeds doesn't seem to be off-topic.
I just got home from the last day of CanGames in Ottawa, Ontario, and want to thank both Paizo and Craig Shackleton (Rambling Scribe on these boards) for their contribution to the convention.
The thanks to Paizo is for the donation of copies of Kill Doctor Lucky! and Stonehenge that were used as prizes for the events being run there.
The thanks to Craig is for running both games all weekend long with new ones starting up pretty much on the hour, every hour. You did a great job teaching new players to play so many of the games. It was also nice to have someone to talk Pathfinder with.
Many thanks!

Thanks Angus! I missed your post earlier and posted my own Thank You to Paizo under the Titanic folder. It was great to see you again, and thanks for teaching me "Ticket to Ride" after my tournaments finished up.
I'll definitely be in touch about future Pathfinder stuff. When I get time I'd like to do some Alpha testing (although frankly, it'll be beta by then), and I definitely want to make Ottawa a bastion of Pathfinder Society organized play.

I don't really know how much of a Pathfinder presence there is in Ottawa right now, but if I have anything to say about it, there will be a much bigger presence by this time next year.
Next CanGames I will be running Pathfinder Society events, and if I can I'll organize more DMs to do so as well. Maybe we can haul Mike Kortes up from Toronto for the weekend, and I'll try and twist Nick Logue's arm as well. Bear in mind however that this is currently just me speculating, but I'll try my damnedest to pull it off!

I'm a DM living in Ottawa who is extremely interested in the Pathfinder Society, so if you're looking for DMs for the next CanGames, I'd be very willing to help out. I want to do my part in helping to promote the greatness that is Pathfinder.

Is that better or worse than when I'm a shameless self-promoter? ;-)

I do live in Ottawa. Once PFS gets underway I want to set up some kind of regular program with one or more local stores to run organized play. I'm honestly not sure which stores have space available for use (or how good those spaces are). I'm also not 100% certain how I'll fit it into my schedule, but I'll make something work.
I'll definitely post more once I have an actual plan.

Check out Wizard's Tower on Fallowfield. They have space, have said they will keep Paizo's products in stock due to their high quality, and run games regularly in the store already.

I was speaking to the Wizard's tower people quite a bit at CanGames, and want to check out their store(s). It's a little off the path for me (especially since I am car free) but I got a really good vibe from those folks. I'll definitely check it out!
EDIT: Hmm, I was just checking transit, and the 95 can pretty much take me right there in half an hour, or I can go even faster on an express bus. I live pretty close to the transitway, so it's a much better option than I thought.

The owner of the Wizard's Tower is a very cool guy. I got to know him before they closed down the Ottawa U location. Anyway, the other day I was speaking with him about running some Pathfinder Society adventures at Wizard's Tower locations (Fallowfield and Kanata), and he seemed pretty keen on the whole thing. He seemed to enjoy reading RotRL, and has decided to stock all of the Pathfinder and Pathfinder Chronicles products (though I've had no luck convincing him to get the Pathfinder Modules).
So, yes, he's very open about holding PFS events at his stores, so that's a great place to start. If you want to speak with him, I think he usually works on weekdays at the Fallowfield location.
As for other stores in Ottawa... I can only think of two: Fandom II, which doesn't allow RPGs to be played in their store, and Kool Kards Heaven, which, from the name, I would assume is not very big on RPGs (plus it's in Orleans, where I hardly ever go). So really, for the Pathfinder Society, Wizard's Tower is the way to go.
I think we'd be able to recruit a fair amount of players as well. The place seems to have quite a few people around at most times. As I've said before, I'm looking at helping out the PFS once it starts up, and I think, for Ottawa, this would be the ideal place.

Any of you guys going to the Wizard's Tower for D&D Game Day?
No, I don't think so for two reasons:
1) I'm not *that* interested in 4E. If I do end up playing it at some point, it'll probably be at home with friends.
2) I'm graduating that day! Woo!
However, make sure to enjoy yourself!
Quick question: Do you know how big the RPG crowd is at Wizard's Tower? I've never really been there on RPG night, only ever on Magic nights.
Just curious to see the pool of people I can attempt to entice to join the Pathfinder Society once it launches!

I think Dave mentioned them having about 35 people coming to their Tuesday night games.

The basement at FandomII is kind of scary. I have heard stories of Roleplaying games run down there, but that was a few years ago at least. I've only been down there once to trade some cards, and lived to tell the tale. From then on I've stuck to the main floor...not that it's sticky or anything. Otherwise, it's a great store.
It's been a while since I've been in either of the "Comic Book Shoppe" locations. The Bank St one seemed to have expanded their gaming stock the last time I visited.
They often have tournaments and demo games for card games and Heroclix and Star Wars Clix. I've never heard of any RPing going on there, but both locations certainly have space for it.
I have a friend who works at the Bank St shoppe who I haven't seen in a while. It might be worth checking to see how much RPG stuff they intend to get into trying to sell to see if they want to host a game.
As for D&D day, I'll bet that my shiny new 4e books get delivered tomorrow, then I have to leave them behind to go and NPC in my friend's LARP for the weekend. Yay, Maelstrom!
If anyone close to Ottawa is interested in an indie non-boffer LARP, I'd be happy to share details and maybe a ride to the next game!

Yeah, the basement at Fandom II is... something else. As for the Comic Book Shoppe, ever since the Bank St. one moved across the street, it strikes me as being less game-friendly, being more focused on the comic book aspect.

I'll probably be at Wizard's Tower (Barrhaven) from about 3:30 onwards.
I'll probably wind up missing you then. I'm going to try to poke my head in there some time around 1:00-1:30, but I have to get to a surprise party for 3:30.
Comic Book Shoppe on Bank is still pretty game friendly in regards to HeroClix - can't really comment on other things.

I was there. Got to play in a game with my son. The DM was enthusiastic and it was a blast watching my 8 year old son think through stuff better than a lot of the adults at the table but I think I'll stick with 3.5.
They were fairly busy in there but I think after the initial rush it died down quickly.

I also made it to Wizard's Tower, but by the time I got there (~3:20), no other new players were arriving. I sat and watched a game for just the end (including a father and son... was that you Tarren? Last table on the right, game finished around 3:50 pm?) chatted to some people, etc. Nice digs, and I talked to the owner about setting up some PFS stuff after GenCon. He's pretty keen to support both Pathfinder and 4E. Sorry I missed you Armac! David (the owner) told me you had been in but had to leave.

Sounds about right... I think that the PFS will do well here, there's a pretty big audience, and as you say, the owner is keen on supporting any kind of organized play, whether it be 4E or not. Really, the hardest part will be attracting people to play, which, I don't believe will be *that* hard. People are always looking for a game to join... or at least, it seems that way.
As has been said many times, there is definitely enough room for both editions in the gaming community, and I don't think Wizard's Tower is any different.
EDIT: Also, I like how this thread has become the Official Ottawa Gamers Thread of Paizo(tm). It's cool! :)

I think we left at 3:20 or so. I was there with my 8 year old but we were on the left and not at the last table so I think it wasn't me.
Wizard's Tower is a great place and the owner is cool.

Me too.
Sounds like the Wizard's Tower is the new happening place.
I'm wishing I didn't live so far on the East end.
Yeah, too bad the Wizard's Tower at Ottawa U closed down, that was a much better, and more central location. It probably wouldn't have been great for running Pathfinder events, since it didn't have much space, but I still miss that place, it gave me a place to hang out between classes.
I'm still very angry that the university shut that place down. And to top it all off, the Student Federation of Ottawa U insulted me personally when I tried to defend the place. Thank God I pay the Student Fed to do such things, eh?
Anyway, that's neither here nor there, my rant is done!
At one point, they were going to open a location on Montreal Rd. which would have been useful as well, but either it closed down quickly or it was never opened at all, not sure.
Do you at least have access to the 95? At least that goes straight from the east end to Wizard's Tower.
