[big]Gnome Ninja’s Patented Polymorph Alternatives[/big]
The following are revised versions of spells of the Polymorph subschool, changed from their parents in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Alpha Playtest Release 2. They have been condensed into single spells, so that a spellcaster need only take a single spell for a certain creature type once, and the spells’ power increases as caster level increases, making the spell effective over a greater range of levels. In addition, I have created three new spells, based upon the ones included in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: alien form, ooze body and faerie shape. Due to the changes these condensed spells create in the druid’s wild shape ability, I will also be giving a revised version of this ability. I also change it so the ability score bonuses granted are of the new “transformational” bonus type, rather than enhancement bonuses. I hope these are useful, improved and effective revised polymorph spells. Please, provide constructive or destructive feedback.
Below are the revised spells, listed by spell level. Assume that the descriptions following the name of each spell replace the “Description” section of the spell entry in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and that all other parts of the spell, such as duration, range and target, are unchanged.
Alter Self
When you cast this spell you assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the humanoid type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: swim 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, and scent.
Small humanoid: If the form you take is that of a Small humanoid, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Dexterity.
Medium humanoid: If the form you take is that of a Medium humanoid, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Strength.
The type and size of the creature form you can assume changes as your caster level increases. If an ability is not listed again under a list of possible abilities gained, but is contained in a list of a previous level, you gain the ability as stated under the list of the highest caster level less than your current caster level. For example, the list of possible abilities gained at 7th caster level does not contain climb, so you gain the climb 30 feet ability listed under the possible abilities at 5th level.
At 5th caster level, you may change your form to become more monstrous. Essentially, you may also assume the form of a Medium creature of the monstrous humanoid type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: climb 30 feet, fly 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim 60 feet, improved grab, slippery.
If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any elements, you gain resistance 10 to those elements. If the form has vulnerability to any elements, you gain that vulnerability.
Medium monstrous humanoid: If the form you take is that of a Medium monstrous humanoid, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to Strength and a +2 natural armor bonus.
At 7th caster level, you may also assume the form of a Large creature of the monstrous humanoid type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: fly 60 feet (average maneuverability), constrict, adhesive, powerful charge, rake, rend (2d6), DR 5/magic. If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any elements, you gain resistance 20 to those elements, rather than resistance 10.
Large monstrous humanoid: If the form you take is that of a Large monstrous humanoid, you gain a +4 transformational bonus to Strength and a +3 natural armor bonus.
Beast Shape
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the animal type. For example, the list of possible abilities gained at 9th caster level does not contain improved grab, so you gain the improved grab ability listed under the possible abilities at 7th level.
At 7th caster level, you may also assume the form of a Tiny or Large creature of the animal type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: climb 60 feet, fly 60 feet (good maneuverability), swim 60 feet, improved grab, pounce and trip.

Elemental abilities based on size, such as burn, vortex and whirlwind, use the size of the elemental you transform into to determine their effect.
Any elemental form grants you darkvision 60 feet. At 11th caster level, you become immune to critical hits and sneak attack damage in any elemental form. At 13th caster level, you gain DR 5/- in any elemental form.
Air elemental: If the form you take is that of a Small air elemental, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a +2 natural armor bonus. At 9th caster level, you can assume the form of a Medium earth elemental, granting you an additional +2 transformational bonus to your Strength and an additional +1 natural armor bonus. At 11th caster level, you can assume the form of a Large earth elemental, granting you an additional +2 transformational bonus to your Strength and Constitution, a –2 penalty to your Dexterity and an additional +1 natural armor bonus. At 13th caster level, you can assume the form of a Huge earth elemental, granting you an additional +2 transformational bonus to your Strength and Constitution. In the form of an earth elemental of any size, you gain the push ability and the ability to earthglide.
Fire elemental: If the form you take is that of a Small fire elemental, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a +2 natural armor bonus. Plant Shape
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the plant type. If the form you assume does not possess the ability to move, your base land speed is reduced to 5 feet and you lose all other forms of movement. If the form you take has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, constrict, improved grab, poison and shriek.
You may initially only assume the form of a Small or Medium creature of the plant type.

For example, the list of possible abilities gained at 11th caster level does not contain improved grab, so you gain the improved grab ability listed under the possible abilities at 9th level.
At 11th caster level, you may also assume the form of a Large creature of the plant type. If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any element, you gain resistance 20 to that element. If that form has vulnerability to any elements, you gain that vulnerability. You are also immune to critical hits and sneak attack damage while in plant form.
Large plant: If the form you take is that of a Large plant, you gain a +4 transformational bonus to your Strength, a +2 transformational bonus to your Constitution and a +4 natural armor bonus.

Polymorph Other, Lesser
This spell transforms a willing creature into a humanoid, monstrous humanoid, animal, magical beast, fey, or elemental of your choosing; this spell has no effect on unwilling creatures. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of a humanoid or monstrous humanoid, this spell functions as alter self. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of an animal or magical beast, this spell functions as beast form. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of a fey, this spell functions as faerie shape. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of an elemental, this spell functions as elemental body. The subject may choose to resume its natural form as a full-round action; doing so ends the spell for that subject alone.
Polymorph Other
This spell functions as lesser polymorph other, except that you may also transform a willing creature into a plant, ooze, or dragon of your choosing; this spell has no effect on unwilling creatures. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of a plant, this spell functions as plant shape. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of an ooze, this spell functions as ooze body. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of a dragon, this spell functions as form of the dragon.
Baleful Polymorph
This spell functions as beast shape, except that you change the subject into a Small or smaller animal of no more than 1 HD. If the new form would prove fatal to the creature, the subject gets a +4 bonus on the save.
If the spell succeeds, the subject must also make a Will save. If this second save fails, the creature loses its extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities, loses its ability to cast spells (if it had the ability), and gains the alignment, special abilities, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores of its new form in place of its own. It still retains its class and level (or HD), as well as all benefits deriving therefrom (such as base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points). It retains any class features (other than spellcasting) that aren’t extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like abilities.
Incorporeal or gaseous creatures are immune to baleful polymorph, and a creature with the shapechanger subtype can revert to its natural form as a standard action.
Shapechange
This spell allows you to take the form of a wide variety of creatures. This spell can function as alter self, beast shape, faerie shape, elemental body, ooze body, plant shape, form of the dragon, giant form, or alien form depending on what form you take. You can change form once each round as a free action. The change takes place either immediately before your regular action or immediately after it, but not during the action.
Animal Shapes
As beast shape, except you change the form of up to one willing creature per caster level into an animal of your choice; the spell has no effect on unwilling creatures. All creatures must take the same kind of animal form. Recipients remain in the animal form until the spell expires or until you dismiss it for all recipients. In addition, an individual subject may choose to resume its normal form as a full-round action; doing so ends the spell for that subject alone.
The following are the three new spells I developed to complete the list of creature types you may transform into. They have all the same properties of the alter self spell, such as range, target, and duration, though their levels, effects and descriptions are different than that of the alter self spell. Their levels are as follows: faerie shape is a 3rd level spell, ooze body is a 5th level spell, and alien form is a 7th level spell. In addition, I have added a 9th level version of polymorph other, allowing transformation into giants and aberrations.
Faerie Shape
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the fey type. If the form you take has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: fly 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim 30 feet, low-light vision, wild empathy.
Small fey: If the form you take is that of a Small fey, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a +1 natural armor bonus.
Medium fey: If the form you take is that of a Medium fey, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a +2 natural armor bonus.
The size of fey you can assume changes as your caster level increases.
At 7th caster level, you may also assume the form of a Tiny creature of the fey type. If the form you take has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: DR 5/cold iron.
Tiny fey: If the form you take is that of a Tiny fey, you gain a +6 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a –2 penalty to your Strength.
Ooze Body
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Medium creature of the ooze type. In any ooze form, you become effectively blind, but gain blindsight 60 feet. In addition, in any ooze form, your gain a –10 feet penalty to your base land speed. If the form you take has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: climb 20 feet, acid, improved grab, constrict, transparent.
Medium ooze: If the form you take is that of a Medium ooze, you gain a +4 transformational bonus to Strength and Constitution, and a –2 penalty to Dexterity.
At 11th caster level you may also assume the form of any Large creature of the ooze type. If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any element, you gain resistance 20 to that element. You are also immune to critical hits and sneak attack damage while in ooze form.
Large ooze: If the form you take is that of a Large ooze, you gain a +6 transformational bonus to Strength and Constitution, and a –2 penalty to Dexterity.
At 13th caster level you may also assume the form of any Huge creature of the ooze type. If the form has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: engulf, paralysis.
Huge ooze: If the form you take is that of a Huge ooze, you gain a +8 transformational bonus to Strength, a +10 transformational bonus to Constitution, and a –2 penalty to Dexterity.
Alien Form
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the aberration type. If the form you take has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: climb 30 feet, fly 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, tremorsense 30 feet, all-around vision, scent, poison, amorphous, improved grab, web, engulf, blood drain, adhesive, extract, rake, rust, stunning gaze. If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any elements, you gain resistance 20 to those elements. If the form you assume has vulnerability to any elements, you gain vulnerability to those elements.
Small aberration: If the form you take is that of a Small aberration, you gain a +2 transformational bonus to your Strength, a +4 transformational bonus to your Dexterity and a +2 natural armor bonus.
Medium aberration: If the form you take is that of a Medium aberration, you gain a +4 transformational bonus to your Strength, a +2 transformational bonus to your Constitution and a +4 natural armor bonus.
The size of aberration you can assume changes as your caster level increases. If an ability is not listed again under a list of possible abilities gained, but is contained in a list of a previous level, you gain the ability as stated under the list of the highest caster level less than your current caster level. For example, the list of possible abilities gained at 15th caster level does not contain improved grab, so you gain the improved grab ability listed under the possible abilities at 13th level.
At 15th caster level, you may also assume the form of a Large creature of the aberration type. If the form you take has any of the following abilities you gain the listed ability: fly 60 feet (average maneuverability), swim 60 feet, darkvision 120 feet, blindsense 30 feet, tremorsense 60 feet, constrict, paralysis, moan, destructive harmonics, crush, disease, DR. If the form you assume has immunity or resistance to any elements, you gain that immunity or resistance, rather than resistance 20.
Large aberration: If the form you assume is that of a Large aberration, you gain a +8 transformational bonus to your Strength, a +4 transformational bonus to your Constitution, and a +6 natural armor bonus.
Polymorph Other, Greater
This spell functions as polymorph other, except that you may also transform a willing creature into a giant or aberration of your choosing; this spell has no effect on unwilling creatures. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of a giant, this spell functions as giant form. If you use this spell to cause the target to take the form of an aberration, this spell functions as alien form.
The following is a revision of the wild shape ability gained by druids.
At 4th level, a druid gains the ability to turn herself into any Small or Medium animal and back again once per day. Her options for new forms include all creatures with the animal type. This ability functions like the beast shape spell, except as noted here. The effect lasts for 1 hour per druid level, or until she changes back.
Changing form (to animal or back) is a standard action and doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity. The form chosen must be that of an animal the druid is familiar with.
A druid loses her ability to speak while in animal form because she is limited to the sounds that a normal, untrained animal can make, but she can communicate normally with other animals of the same general grouping as her new form. (The normal sound a wild parrot makes is a squawk, so changing to this form does not permit speech.)
A druid can use this ability an additional time per day at 6th level and every two levels thereafter, for a total of eight times at 18th level. At 20th level, a druid can wild shape at will. As a druid gains in levels, this ability allows the druid to take on the form of larger and smaller animals, elementals, and plants. Each form expends one daily usage of this ability, regardless of the form taken.
As a druid gains levels, she can use wild shape to change into different sizes and types of creatures with this ability. At 6th level, a druid can use wild shape to change into a Small elemental; this ability functions like the elemental body spell. At 8th level, a druid can use wild shape to change into a Small or Medium plant creature; this ability functions like the plant shape spell. The size of a form a druid can take using wild shape also depends upon the druid’s level. Essentially, use the spells given as reference for what size creatures the druid can become when she uses this ability, treating the caster level as the one more than the druid’s level; however, a druid cannot take on the form of a magical beast like she would normally be able to do using beast shape when at a sufficiently high level. For example, a 10th level druid can use wild shape to take on the form of an animal creature of Diminutive, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large or Huge size, an elemental of Small, Medium or Large size, or a plant of Small Medium or Large size.
In general, in other class abilities in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game that reference the previous versions of these spells, such as the 8th-level supernatural ability granted by the Transmutation specialty. In addition, said ability of the Transmutation specialty, change shape, can also function as alter self and faerie shape.

No one likes? Come on! XP
Just have some patience...
I do like the idea of having them only need to be taken once, and then improve like most spells. My only concern is with your new spells (like "faerie shape"), which seem to not quite fit balance-wise. Otherwise, I hope they change the polymorph stuff to something like this. (Not like they read the New Rules section...)

Thanks. I realized there are some issues with Faerie Shape in particular, aka significant bonuses with no penalty for a long time.
