Converting issues

Sovereign Court

Okay so I have a level two wizard conjurer in my game and for the hell of it, I tried to convert him over to Pathfinder, here is the issue that I dealt with that has to do with backwards compatability,

The new CMB makes it nearly impossible for this character to work, In 3.5 this wizard uses a whip to trip whenever he ran out of spells. This worked because of the reach of a whip and the fact that I had a decent strength score meant that I had a fair shot when I attempted to trip anyone, at third level I was going to take Imp trip in order to continue with the character concept.

The problem is that with the new CMB the DC is set so high, and always based off of BAB that my character has virtually no chance to trip someone.

For example, my wizard has a 15 str which gives a +2 and has a BAB of +1 right now, giving me a +3 to trip, now I try to trip an enemy fighter, I'm looking at a (lets say 15 str) CMB of 19 which means that I have to roll a 16+ to trip now if my second level feat were imp trip that would be a 14+ but in general that is too low to be an effective mechanic, and with the fact that BAB increases twice as fast for the fighter, I will never be able to trip him unless I get lucky or massively increase my strength. If a fighter has an 18 str then I'm really useless even with Imp trip because I still only have a less than 1 in 4 shot of tripping.
