I really found the Star Wars revision to darkvision and low-light vision. Instead of feet, they work in game mechanics, i.e., concealment due to darkness. I've already house ruled into my game that darkvision is not limited by range. I've yet to see imbalance, and quite frankly, it has made DMing MUCH easier.

Darkvision. See in the dark, ignoring concealment and total concealment due to darkness. Darkvision is black and white only. No distance limitation.
Low-light vision. See without penalty in shadowy illumination, ignoring concealment (but not total concealment) due to darkness. Distinguish colors and details under these conditions. No distance limitation.
The big thing for me is that, in the underdark, distance limitations are rarely imposed as you wind through the tunnels beneath the ground . . . that is, until you reach that giant underground city of the grimlocks. Breath-taking . . . if you can see it.

Not a bad idea.
We've encountered the problem several times now. When moving at great speed, esp. flying, the darkvision range limit seems... odd.
A Nightwing can see 180 ft. under a starless sky, but can fly 240 ft. a round. If it wants to hunt ground-based creatures or find the way based on ground features, it has to fly at a maximum height of 180 ft. Better hope there're no trees, towers or even mountains in the way...
