This is listed as a melee attack. The other CMBs are Standard, except for Sunder. Is that right? If I have reiterative attacks, I can make multiple trip attempts? If the AoO hits, it doesn't stop/change the trip attempt in any way?
Also, if the trip attack hits, the target is knocked prone. Automatically?, down ya go? And it's a "hit", not a CMB check?
Seems like trip just got much more likely. I don't see the "standing up from prone is AoO" being removed in Pathfinder, which means Trip just got way more powerful.

okay yes it's used in place of an attack, so yes you can take multiple if you have itterative attacks or two weapon fighting.
However when you make the attack you are not attempting to hit, it is a CMB check used in place of the attack roll, if your CMB check beats the DC yes they go down automatically.

What, you mean compared to Improved Trip giving you a free attack whenever you successfully trip somebody, thereby making Trip a free action that gives you a bonus on your next string of attacks and forces your foe to illicit attacks of op?
And yes, it is a CMB check, but it takes the place of an iterative attack. And why would an attack of op stop the trip attack?

The 3.5 version of Improved Trip: If you trip an opponent in melee combat, you immediately get a melee attack against that opponent as if you hadn’t used your attack for the trip attempt.
In the Alpha 2 version (p. 51) the free attack is gone.
Improved Trip
You are skilled at sending your opponents to the ground.
Prerequisite: Int 13.
Benefit: You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when performing a trip combat maneuver. In addition, you receive a +2 bonus on checks made to trip a foe.
