Creatures with a fly speed receive this
skill for free as a class skill. They also receive a bonus
(or penalty) on all Fly checks depending on their
maneuverability.
Now it means fly skill with HD ranks plus 3 ranks for free? Or a flying creature must spend its own skill ranks on it?
I like we are returning to skill points, but it needs a clarification.
Cheers!

I have two Raptoran PCs (winged elves) from Races of the Wild (one Druid, the other Wizard) running through my Burnt Offerings alpha-2 playtest, so I am quite interested in the Fly skill.
Raptorans have a Glide speed at 1st level, until they gain their Fly speed at level 5.
I'm thinking that Fly skill checks should apply to situations that occur while Gliding. As both Druids and Wizards gain Fly as a class skill anyway, this isn't really an issue for the characters in my game, but it could potentially come up later, as Shalelu is also a Raptoran in my campaign.
My question is: could a Glide speed qualify Fly as a class skill for, say, a low-level Rogue/Ranger Raptoran, or does it remain a cross-class skill until she gains her Fly speed at 5th level?
I'm sure the writers hadn't anticipated the Glide speed when writing this skill. I'm thinking there could be a case for it going either way:
- Glide being a lesser form of Fly, therefore remains cross-classed; OR
- having wings and an air-speed qualifies Fly as a classed skill.
