Round Three initiatives
Archers 19
Kronag 15
Allien 13
Praxus 13
Guards 11
Tolly 9
Both archers target the most visible enemy. One stands first then shoots. Being in combat makes the shots difficult but they try to take advantage of his reckless attacks and aim for his underarm as the greatsword is lifted back aloft.
Both arrows miss again.
Neither move anywhere but they both shout desperately, "Darlae! Darlae!"
Kronag the Difficult (to hit), your go.
| Kronag |
Kronag roars in frustration, brings the greatsword around again, and this time is rewarded with a meaty thud.
Overhand Chop (1d20 3=23)
Crit Confirm (1d20 3=13)
Chop damage (2d6 6=13)
Attacked guard in K14. If he is still standing, 5' to L14. If not, 5' to L12.
| Allien Layshien |
Allien smirks as Kronag decimates his opponent. Then he turns and redoubles his concentration upon the hapless warrior facing not only his own bobbing blade, but a warrior and the redoubtable halfling as well!
Allien's round 3 'dancing sword' attack! (1d20 3=19, 1d8 3=5)
That's a little more like it! :)
| Baron Praxus |
Seeing both guards drop, Praxus re-assesses the situation.
"We're going to go have company. Kronag, guard the southern door, Allien and Tolly, you've got the ones to the north. I'll try to keep the archers covered."
Praxus hunkers down behind his shield, drops his sword, takes out his crossbow and loads it.
Praxus is in J-12, using his tower shield for Total Cover.
If you can get right next to the doors, guys, you should be (mostly) protected from the archers above, and with readied actions, should e able to get the drop on anyone coming through the doors. And we're still close enough to be able to help each other out.
| Allien Layshien |
Allien leaps up and dashes through the gap in the barrels. He heads to the northern door(s) just a step behind Tolly. He takes a position to the left of the door, and a few steps back. His sword takes up a position right next to the door.
Not looking at the map, I thought there were only the broken gates across from the bridge, are there 2 sets of doors? If so, I am with Tolly, standing on the opposite side of the doorway. 5' back so no can smack me when they step through. Readied action, attack with Apprentice Hand/Longsword when someone passes through the door.
French Wolf

There are two doors in the northern building and one in the southern.
Round Four
Archers
Kronag
Allien
Praxus
Tolly
The southern archer has a clear view of Tolly and fires at the little guy.
Archers (1d20+2=14, 1d6=2, 1d20+2=14, 1d6=6)
The second archer foolishly attacks Praxus in the middle and the arrow bounces off the great shield.
| Baron Praxus |
And now we see the flaw in my cunning plan, namely that while you're protected from the archer above you, the one across from you has a clear shot. Woops! :)
His crossbow loaded, Praxus pops up from behind his shield to shoot the archer atop the southern building. Praxus drops back behind his shield to reload.
| Tolman "Tolly" Cooper |
"Why am I standing in here waiting to get skewered as they come out." Just as the thought finishes an explosion of dirt and wood splinters causes him to jerk back. Not an inch away from where his head was is an arrow embedded halfway up its hilt wavering slightly from the impact. Eyes wide he spins his head around to the southern archer and gives him the finger.
"Great, not only am I going to get sliced by the guards or fried to a crisp by their slinger, but now I gotta worry about being a pincushion." He gives Praxus the evil eye for such a foolish plan as he hides in safety behind his shield.
Using dodge on the southern archer. +1 AC until my next turn.
How many rounds is it to put armor, etc on? Maybe we should just bust in and catch them in the act. I will leave that to the big guys to decide.
Now that Allien and his magical hand have the door covered Tolly moves 5' to O9 to cover that door. ready action: attack on anyone that comes out
| Allien Layshien |
Allien, seeing the arrow imbed itself into the wood next to Tolly's face, realizes Praxus's tactical error.
'That's what I get for blindly following the orders of someone with a big shield to hide behind!' He thinks to himself as he digs into his spell component pouch.
He allows the 'Hand of the Apprentice' to fade, and it returns his sword to its sheath before it disappears. He begins making small, precise gestures while speaking in a flowing tongue. His amulet glows, and a shimmering golden sphere appears in Allien's hands and grows until it is large enough to encompass his entire body. The sphere then contracts as it begins to fade from view, leaving behind a tell-tale golden shimmer surrounding the elf, barely noticeable in the daylight.
Allien then concentrates for a moment, and his sword once again leaps from his scabbard and heads for the door.
Drop 'Apprentice Hand' (Free action), cast Mage armor, (Standard action) activate 'Apprentice Hand' (Swift action) Cannot ready an action until next round
| Baron Praxus |
I'll go ahead and post for Praxus' next action.
Praxus pops up again and targets the southern archer again. Once her fires, he drops back behind his shield to reload.
Attack (1d20+4=15); Damage (1d8=1)
I'll be out of town for the next two days with no internet access. Feel free to NPC Praxus if needed - he'll pretty much do the same thing until the archers are taken care of. I'll check back in Tuesday when I get back.

A horn sounds in the distance as Gorum blesses the battlepriest and his cohorts. Vigorous energy is given to one and all.
Allien hugs the wall by the door. He is at L9
As Baron Praxus pops up to fire his crossbow, the archer ducks just in time to avoid the bolt.
Tolly moves down the wall to the next door. No need to specify a dodge target in new Alpha rules, mate.

Round Four
Archers
Kronag
Allien
Praxus
Tolly
The archers maintain a steady fire, since neither has been hit and the party have spread across the kill zone.
One targets the mage. Then other targets the priest without the great shield.
Attacks and damage on Allien and Kronag respectively (1d20+2=19, 1d6=3, 1d20+2=19, 1d6=4)
Both arrows hit their targets. Then the archers move down the roof towards the gateway allowing a better field of fire.
Move to R9 and R16.
| Kronag |
"By Gorum!" Kronag swears as the arrow sinks into his leg. "Battle Lord, help me fight these nartug." As his wounds begin to knit, Kronag enters the south tower.
CLW on self, swapping out Cause Fear (1d8 1=9)
Still have a fair bit of movement, but it depends on what I see
| Allien Layshien |
Allien shouts in surprise and pain as the arrow pierces his leg through his mystic armor. But he looks more angry than injured.
"That's it!" He cries. "Mother Layshien's little boy did NOT survive over 75 years of Apprentice chores to become a pincushion!" He steps to the door his floating sword is covering, and peeks inside.
Like Kronag, movement left, but peeking first. PLANNING on stepping at least inside to get away from the archers, then deal with whatever is in there if I have to!
French Wolf

Allien
Stood in front of the table is a chain-shirted young man with a greatsword. He has wild black hair and a stubbled chin, but his bright blue eyes are fixed on the doorway, in a flash he charges out.
"Rarrr!"
Behind him is an elderly woman with grey-black hair and a hairy wart on her chin. She is smearing a curved dagger with black oil.
Allien, don't react to this information until Kronag has finished his go. Then we will resolve the man's readied action.
French Wolf
|
He did have a readied action to attack you. However it seems a little unfair to not give you a chance of also being ready so I rolled his initiative, had you won then I would have let you act first, but he did and so..
Bursting out of the doorway near Allien comes a soldier in chain shirt wielding a greatsword. He slashes at Allien, when he moves around him.
Allien gets an attack of opportunity.
The black haired soldier shouts up to the archers, "Cover me, I'll kill them one by one."
Move to L10, Attack roll 19+5=24 Damage 7, Attack to confirm 5+5=10.
| Allien Layshien |

That sounds fair to me!
Bursting out of the doorway near Allien comes a soldier in chain shirt wielding a greatsword. He slashes at Allien, when he moves around him.
Allien gets an attack of opportunity.
And takes it!
Allien backpedals furiously from the unexpected charge of the armored juggernaut, reflexively sending his mage-wielded sword up to try and hit him.
Allien's AoO on armored nutjob: (1d20 3=14, 1d8 3=11)
The black haired soldier shouts up to the archers, "Cover me, I'll kill them one by one."
Move to L10, Attack roll 19+5=24 Damage 7, Attack to confirm 5+5=10.
Um,... Ouch?!?!
Allien gasps as the oversized sword rips along his belly, staining his fine shirt red in its wake.
FW~ Is it just me, or is this starting to look familiar? ;) The elf is in very bad shape. I sure hope I get to go before this guy goes again!
PRAXUS, please teach this gentleman the meaning of pain!
| Baron Praxus |
I think I'm stepping in front of Allien here, but I'm going to post it now.
Praxus fires his crossbow at the new guard. Attack (1d20+3=7); Damage (1d8=8)
One he fires, Praxus drops the crossbow and picks up his sword.
Sorry, Allien, Praxus has been rolling like s&$# for this entire combat!
French Wolf, just to confirm your interpretation of the rules: if I've been firing my crossbow and using my shield for total cover, would you say that the shield is not readied and therefore would require a move action to ready it again?
French Wolf
|
French Wolf wrote:Yep, Baron. The shield isn't providing cover this round. But, but...I haven't moved from behind it this round. I was hoping to still have cover, and move out next round.
I see. Then yes I agree with the move action to get the shield readied.
Allien - it is the rest of your go.
| Allien Layshien |
OK, As I understand the withdraw rule, I can move up to double my speed and NOT draw an AoO. So, that is what I do!
EDIT-withdraw is a full round action! NM!
Allien looks at the well armored and slightly homicidal young man, and smiles. "Been nice meeting you. We should do this again sometime. Really."
Then sends his mage-wielded blade into a series of movements designed to show off ones skill. The elf slowly retreats while trying to watch the archers and the powerhouse at the same time.
"Hey Baron!" He calls over his shoulder. "Met a new friend. I think he's dying to meet you."
The floating sword returns to its scabbard, and the elf then quickly casts a spell, hurling a scattering of sand into the air towards the armored juggernaut. As he intones the mystic words in a flowing language, a shaft of rainbow beams spread from his hands to engulf the warrior.
OK, too late in the round to fight full defensive or withdraw. SO, can't see any movement left that won't draw an AoO (unless he's already had his this round?) so casting defensively, and cast Color spray, save DC is 14. Roll for cast defensive:
| Tolman "Tolly" Cooper |
There is a loud roar from behind him. Spinning around Tolly sees a flash of colors. He quickly covers his eyes blinking rapidly to clear the effect. Just as quickly as it started the effect has subsided. In its wake is a burly man with a gigantic sword laying on the ground under him. Tolly gives the slinger an approving look and a quick nod before spinning back around.
Continue to ready an action to attack anyone coming out the door I am covering. Dodge still in affect.
French Wolf
|
The southern archer targets Tolly with an arrow and clips him, the northern archer aims his bow at Kronag's doorway, waiting.
Southern archer (1d20+2=19, 1d6=2)
Northern archer - spoiler to be read if Kronag comes out of doorway.
Do you feel lucky Kronag?
After Kronag's, no one else post please. Ta.
| Kronag |
Do you feel lucky Kronag?
Yep!
Kronag emerges from the south tower, only to have an arrow stick in the ground at his feet. He sees the fighter on the ground and, making a quick decision, rushes around the corner and up the stairs of the south tower, planning to take care of at least onearcher.
O16-O15--K15-K16 (double? if not, then L16) I think that's 40'
French Wolf
|
Kronag moves out and round to the steep stairs. he is about halfway up, out of sight of the archer at the moment.Double for the stairs squares.
A ragged figure comes out of the doorway next to Allien. Quick at a flash, she points at the elf and her dagger dripping red poison cuts towards him past the sword.
AoO but you've had one so no joy unless Combat Reflexes?
The dagger misses and floats back next to her.
"You will die for hurting my son, you pointed-eared tree-hugging gnome kisser!"
Praxus, care to pick a target? Note that you cannot charge the woman due to the barrels and stunned soldier lying in the way.
| Baron Praxus |
Praxus hefts his sword and abandons his shield, stepping around the stunned guard to attack the woman with an arcing two-handed swing.
Praxus moves to L-9. Why charge when you can stalk forward menacingly?
2-handed attack 1d20+7=24); Damage (1d10+7=10)
Also, French Wolf, can you give us an update on where exactly everybody is? I'm trying to keep track at home and want to make sure I have it right. For example, Praxus moving to L-9 should put him adjacent to both the guard and the woman (if I have it right).
| Allien Layshien |
"Tolly, Would you be so kind as to bind this gentleman's hands and feet? He won't be out much longer. And I'm not really all that good with knots." He admits with a smirk.
He looks at the woman.
"Pity she got all worked up before she found out he was only stunned, she might have been more reasonable."
He looks at the Guards on the rooftops. "Don't. Move." He calls.
| Tolman "Tolly" Cooper |
Tolly nods at Allien. He quickly searches the buildings for some rope starting with the one closest to him. Top one first
"I'll get him tied up right quick." Pulling the big mans arms behind his back Tolly ties the rope securely around his wrists. He then pulls some rope back and runs it tautly down to his legs where he ties his ankles up. "There you go" He says as he kicks the man in his thigh. "This dummy ain't going no where." He then moves to retrieve his sling where he dropped it near the barrels.
Mr. Wolf:
Perception (1d20 5=22)
Check to find any valuable looking loot in the rooms. If something stands out such as sacks of gold, important looking documents, or anything else that can be easily tucked into hidden pockets he grabs it quickly.
French Wolf
|
The archers meekly follow the warriors down to the ground after offloading their arrows and daggers. Both wait patiently.
Tolly disappears into the rooms for a while and comes back from the second door with a rope to tie the young soldier.
The northern chamber which Allien almost entered was the bedchamber and general room of the elderly woman. A quick look identifies some basic apothecary equipment and a dirty small bed. There are two sacks in one corner.
The second chamber (where Tolly found the rope) has several sacks of grain piled against one wall, in a mess. Some rope halters and a large wooden pallet fill one side of the room. The other side has a curtain separating it, behind which Tolly briefly saw a horse. The far wall has been breached but another curtain protects the horse from the worst of the elements.
Tolly came in, grabbed the rope and left.
The chamber that Kronag went into is a barracks with bunk beds in each corner and two chests between them. It also has a curtain covered breach in one wall.
Tolly
