Sounds like Knowledge: Local, for which Arius has +7. Branahm doesn't have it trained, so he won't get a chance to roll.

1d20+7=8

Well, looks like no

Spoiler:
lifting the cage's latch and freeing the pseudodragon
for a few rounds, though the other prerequisites will be ready. Let me know when Arius needs to make his second save.

It's got me and flash as its whipping boys. [rolls a 1] "Thank you, sir. May I have another?"

I'm estimating an 85% chance that I'll be starting part-time law school in the fall. I think that I'll be able to keep up with this PbP, but I want to give everyone an early heads-up in case that I have to go inactive for a while (e.g., during finals prep).

Good for you eric! don't worry about the time... let me know and I can DMPC the brothers when needed.

Silver Crusade

Thanks, Cap. I'll let you know if I need to take you up on that.

By the way, I'm still open to letting another player run one of the brothers if we find a good candidate. I tried to convince my brother-in-law, but without any luck so far.

If anyone is interested, Elizabeth now has her very own picture drawn by the talented Sarah Feather (the wife of Snorter).

They're at home--I'll try to send them tonight.

Sorry about the delay, but you should have them now.

Rogue. She is primarily gonna be a Rogue, with a few levels of Wiz thrown in for support. Invisibility will be muchos welcome in a few levels!

Silver Crusade

That's what scrolls are for. You just have to convince Arius that you'll use them for legitimate purposes.

Figure I'll ask before the actual date... do people want to stay with the Beta or switch over to the full PFRPG come august?

She can be very persuasive when she tries... she can pay them off to Arius in interesting ways ;)

I'm happy to swap, although maybe not straight away, depending on when I get my hands on the PFRPG Core Book.

Silver Crusade

flash_cxxi wrote:

I'm sure that she could sucker Arius, or most other men for that matter, into doing something against his better judgment. However, she can get what she wants in this case just by fronting the raw materials cost, as long as she's discreet about how she uses (or misuses) them afterwards.

I'd probably vote for using the full PFRPG, but would like to have the book in hand first.

Definatly, I want to have time to plow through the book before switching over... most likely about the same time the bestiary comes out so I don't have to play around with as much conversion (not like that has been hard so far... but certain things later might get interesting.

Silver Crusade

I think that this time is a simple five-way split: 300 gp each (for the bribe plus the 500), plus anything that Anju, Arius, and Keth won in the knivesies betting.

Cap, I'm assuming that this is the next day and we have our new spells unless you indicate otherwise. That Invisibility spell may come in handy.

yeah that's fine.. if you look its actually pretty hard to win money in knivesies unfortunately... I'll figure out what the thugs wagered later today if possible (might not be til sunday though)

Silver Crusade

That's okay. Considering its source, it's both literally and metaphorically chump change.

Speaking of which, I have a question regarding Enhancement of Arcane Bonded Items.

PFRPG Beta Rulebook wrote:
A wizard can enchant his bonded object as if he had the required feats.

The Feat I require is Craft Magic Arms and Armour, which has a prerequisite of Caster Level 5th. Does that mean Elizabeth can't start to Enhance Caress until she is Caster Level 5th (in her case a very long time, as Rogue is her Primary Class), or does it mean that right from 1st Level she is treated as if she had Craft Magic Arms and Armour and as long as she had the money could start Enhancing right from then?

My personal take on it is the latter (she can enhance from 1st Level), as the Rulebook does state 'as if she had the required Feat with no mention of when it occurs', but it is a little ambiguous.

Silver Crusade

Branahm was planning to take Craft Magical Weapons and Armor at 6th level, so Liz will have access to enchantment capabilities regardless of Cap's call on this. However, I can understand why she might not want to dependent on somebody else for enhancing Caress.

I'm interested in the answer to this question because of its application to magical enhancement of Arius' ring.

it doesnt say upon meeting the prerequisites, a wizard can.... so as written in the beta I would say that the wizard can enhance from 1st...

Do we have 2 days of downtime between getting our reward from Kroft and her visit regarding Trinia?

Yay... now I gotta go look up Enchanting an Item... alls I know is it costs half and takes 1 day for every 1,000gp in the initial cost! :)

Read once you all get in the room, taken from PF# page 46

Spoiler:
At the start of the chase, each PC and Trinia makes an initiative check to determine the order in which they move. When a character moves, he decides if he wants to attempt to move one, two, or three cards. A character can move one card as a move-equivalent action (scrambling under laundry lines and across open rooftops) automatically, or he can attempt to move two or three cards in his turn by taking dangerous shortcuts as a full-round action (leaping from one rooftop to the next, clambering up a drainpipe, swinging along a line, or balancing along a narrow walkway, for example). If a character wants to move two cards, he must select one of the two skill checks from the card he starts his turn on to make in order to move two cards. If a character wants to move three cards, he must make both of the current card’s skill checks to progress. If a character fails any of these checks by 5 or less, he only moves one card forward. If a character fails any of these checks by more than 5, he cannot move at all that turn, and if he fails two checks by more than 5, he falls 1d4×10 feet to the street below, taking the appropriate amount of falling damage. A fallen character has two choices—he can either make a DC 15 Climb check on his turn to return to the card from which he fell, or he can wind his way through alleys and over fences and through mobs to continue the chase by making a DC 15 Strength or Dexterity check (his choice) to move one card—a fallen character cannot choose to attempt to move two or three cards until he climbs back up into the Shingles. A character can also choose to make a ranged attack or cast a spell during his turn. If the action is a standard or move-equivalent action, he can still chose to move forward one card. If the action is a full-round action, he can’t move at all. For purposes of determining range, it’s easiest to assume that each card represents a distance of 30 feet.

If a character ends his turn on the same card as Trinia, he may attempt a single grapple check to grab and restrain her. Once Trinia is pinned, unconscious, or killed, the chase ends. Also, if Trinia manages to move off of card 15, the chase ends.

I'll start working on the 'cards' now

Silver Crusade

Okay, I'll look forward to seeing the first cards. I checked his sheet, and Branahm does have Hold Person in memory (but unfortunately only one). Fortunately, Arius has an incapacitating spell option as well.

I'm so glad that Expeditious Retreat is one of Liz's core spells that she memorizes... never know when she may need to run away from something really, really fast!

Silver Crusade

Sweet: If Branahm can't paralyze Trinia, Liz can outrun her. Will Expeditious Retreat give Liz a freebie bonus card of movement, Cap?

Right now, the initiative order is:

Trinia ??
Keth ??

Branahm 24
Liz 20
Anju (and Tikaani?) 9
Slow-poke Arius 6

Cap: Are you waiting for Branahm? I wanted to see what the first card looked like before stating his actions.

sorry, I usually do the fluff posts from work and the crunchy posts from home, when I can reference the actual book.. but we (my girlfriend and I) had a concert that we went to friday, so she was home when I got there, and I didn't have time to do it until today. Here are the checks for the first 4 cards...

Card 1

Spoiler:
DC 20 Acrobatics and/or DC 15 Perception

Card 2

Spoiler:
DC25 escape artist and/or DC 10 climb

Card 3

Spoiler:
DC 15 Acrobatics and/or DC 15 Escape artist

Card 4

Spoiler:
DC 20 Climb and/or 25 acrobatics

Trina will be going after Liz

Dread wrote:

I'll say that it would give a +1 synergy bonus to every check, and you still get your +2 perception checks for being in Urban terrain on top of that. I don't expect trina to make it very far, uless IC keeps hating Liz...

She fails all 3 saving throws.... you could just take the move actions and get to her Sigh That was anti-climatic.... going to fast forward....

Silver Crusade

Sorry. Branahm was going to try Diplomacy for the first round to persuade Trinia to stop, but she was already over 90' away. I was worried that if she got out of casting range, he'd never get a second chance.

Silver Crusade

Enjoy your trip, Cap.

Dread, Anju, flash: Any suggestions re. scrolls to buy for the mission? I was thinking of picking up a couple of Command Undead.

Silver Crusade

Okay, here's the Pelganes' shopping, assuming that Cap okays it:

Arius:
scroll of Control Undead (CL 3rd) (1) 150 gp
scroll of Eagle's Splendor (CL 3rd) (1) 150 gp
scroll of Detect Undead (CL 1st) (1) 25 gp
vial of holy water (1) 25 gp

Branahm:
vials of holy water (3) 75 gp
scroll of Lesser Restoration (CL 3rd) (1) 150 gp
potion of Detect Undead (CL 1st) (1) 50 gp
He'll give 40 gp to the temple while he's there.

Strategy Ideas for PCs:

Spoiler:

Some thoughts include giving the potion to Keth or Liz for a scouting run, using the charisma-boosting scroll on Branahm for a combat against weak undead, and using the control scroll if we encounter a single enhanced undead, preferably a non-intelligent one. The spell has no save for non-intelligent undead, but it's too expensive to waste it on a standard skeleton or zombie.

Silver Crusade

Cap,

Thanks for the map. Branahm and Arius' positions look reasonable given their actions; I suspect that Arius is about to wish that he was hanging back a little bit.

Given the relative ease of disguising guardian undead (e.g., skeletons) in a room full of corpses, Branahm will make sure that his holy symbol is readily accessible.

Anju (11)
broters (6)
Owlbear(2)
