This is why we fight.

4th Edition

Over the last few months I've had many people on these boards tell me that 4.0 is comming and that fighting against the system isn't going to change that. That Everyone will follow suit eventually, it's only a matter of time.
This is why we fight. Because sometimes someone listens. We stand up for what we believe is best for ourselves and the gaming comunity.

Thank you Paizo for hearing us.

Yes, and seeing how it seems that neither the GSL nor the core books are finalized (and thus off to the printer yet) from what I hear at least... I feel that maybe, just maybe, there's a slight possibility that perhaps WotC is quietly listening too... and for all we know going back and changing certain things.

Yeah, we've heard some of it is set in stone more or less, but no one truly knows until the books hit the shelves.

Aw yeah! Picture me doing the happy dancing kinda like Snoopy!

Here here! As a matter of fact... *Grabs +2 ratchet of renaming*

*Drops clunky armor plating* Ah... Much better. I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Long Live Paizo!

Very true.

The 4th Edition boards were getting ugly and mean to be sure. I think its because there was no decision yet on Paizo's part so a lot fo us felt the need to keep fighting for what we wanted.

Now that its over I think its fantastic to know that 4th edition players can enjoy the 4th edition boards and reap the benefits of WotC, Goodman Games and Necromancer Games. And those who wanted Pathfinder to remain 3rd edition can go to Pathfinder's board.

Honestly the "4th Edition Haters" have no reason to fight anymore. I think we have entered an era of peace. :)

Bravo! Good luck to Paizo for standing on there own. If 4e, turns out not to be for me, I will be back. Hell, I'll be back to pilfer Paizo story ideas.

I thank you a whole lot. Be3st of success for Paizo.

Yes, this is exactly why we bothered to keep fighting the good fight on behalf of v.3.5. Now that Paizo has heard us, it's time to move on and help them ensure that the Pathfinder RPG is everything we want it to be.

To those looking forward to 4e, good luck and have fun playing what you enjoy. So long as we're all happy wherever we wind up, there should be no cause for complaint from anyone.

If the lesson to be learned by the Pathfinder RPG is that fighting resulted in Paizo not going 4e, I would be deeply saddened and worry for the future of this community.

The fact that an apparent majority of Paizo's customers preferred sticking with a 3e variant was definitely a reason for them putting out the Pathfinder RPG, but, I can't believe that it was the attacks on 4e that made the difference. I also take Paizo at face value in their statement that they wanted the rules that best fit the type of stories they wanted to tell. They built Golarion on a very different model than 4e, and to adapt to 4e would have required them to do something Very Bad (*cough* Spellplague *cough*) to the world.

Plus, if the lesson drawn is that he who is angriest and most aggressive gets his way, the process of producing a finalized version of the Pathfinder RPG will be so tortuous as to make the 4e debates seem like a walk in the park.

The "fighting" is metaphorical. This "fight" was defensive. People spoke up. People resisted. And in the end, the "fight" paid off. At least... for now.

I don't believe anyone here is claiming that "attacking" 4E (through trolling or threadcrapping or otherwise being a meanie) made a difference. At least... not yet. ;)

Amen to that. Now if you like 4E, you play D&D. If you like 3.5, you play Pathfinder. I would be darkly amused if Pathfinder became the more popular game eventually, but with the talented writers on staff, I wouldn't be surprised.

I have to wholeheartedly agree. I don't believe the attacks from either side made Paizo's job any easier.

Now that the decision is made and announced, I sincerely hope the feuding is over.

I am so happy this is how it turned out. I think 4e is gonna' be awesome, but it isn't Pathfinder. It just isn't. This new book is, among other things, a gorgeous new book of Pathfinder stuff that I can proudly sit on my bookshelf. But more than that, it's the game customized to the setting rather than the other way around--which is always better!

This is going to be awesome. These are good times to be a gamer!

I hope so, too. The sheer pettiness of it all really made me stay away from here for the majority of the feud. I'm glad a decision has been made and that there will be options for both the "pro-4e" and "anti-4e" crowds. :)

Well, truth be told, Paizo didn't lose anything by doing this. What they did was they made a smart business decision.

Through their joint venture with Necromancer Games, Necromancer IS going 4e.

SO! By definition, Paizo acquires access to all that stuff through the GSL anyway.

By waiting to either A) Convert or B) Stay with Pathfinder, Paizo loses nothing. It is the smartest business decision they could possibly make.

This is why I really like Paizo. They're smarter than your average game company.

Not to belittle Paizo here, but, having dealt with a few... That's REALLY not very difficult...

I'd also think that the choice of A) producing products for an out of print game, B) producing nothing due to the lack of GSL & rules, or C) buy time with a re-branded, patched open rule set, combined with the support of the customer base, made it an easier decision.

I don't think the flamefest around here helped at all.
