"Silly Kobold, playing with fire is my thing!" Yin utters, only just resisting the urge to send a fire spell into the pesky humanoid, instead she settles for a ray of cold although doesn't seem happy doing it.
Init (1d20+1=19)
Ranged Touch (1d20+2=13)
Ice damnage (1d6+2=3)
Yin's ray of cold hurts the kobold enough to let him know he doesn't want you following him. A cone of flame shoots from his claws before he ducks back down the hall.
10 points of damage. DC 13 reflex save for half damage.
The chamber bursts into flame with the celestial badger in the center. Black smoke fills the room and begins to block the hall.

"Ah'm fer gettin' tired o' bein' a torch!"
Is the room still aflame, or did the trap flare and die down right away?

Ovirid Thorvirson |

The room will burn for at least a round but the smoke will billow out longer. Soon, the corridor will be filled with smoke.
Ovirid drops down to his belly on the floor, hoping to get below the smoke, and watches for 1) the fire to burn out and 2) feet approaching their position from the other side of the room.
He'll ready an action to put a crossbow bolt through anything with kobold feet (that he can identify in the smoke).

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

I think only Yin and Ovirid would have been close enough to get caught in the cone. They seemed to be more actively investigating the room. No one was caught in the flames from the room itself though. Janrith and Manfred would avoid damage.

"If'n we still want to go on, I'm fer thinkin' we can crawl under the smoke. If'n we wait for the smoke to clear, we'll be fer givin' that lizard time ta set up 'nother trap. I'm fer crawlin' in 'r gettin' out - what say ye?"

Yintarah Fireweaver |

Ovirid Thorvirson |

"Gods Damnit!" Yin yells in annoyance as she gets burnt rather than doing the burning. Giving an annoyed sound she too sinks to the ground below the smoke to get to clearer air. "Crawling works" She agrees with the dwarf.
Already flash-fried twice today, the dwarf will wait for the oil to burn down before he tried to negotiate the room. His crossbow is stowed to free his hands.

Ovirid Thorvirson |

"Mage, would ya be able ta give me a 'it off'n that 'ealin' stick o' yours? I'm fer wantin' ta feel my best when we finally find whatever 'e's guardin'."
Just one charge, if you don't mind. I don't want to get nickel-and-dime'd to death because dwarven pride prevents me from asking for healing when the opportunity presents itself.

Hey guys, the next 48 hours are going to be nuts for me so I won't be updating. When I post on Wednesday though, I will be Dr. Tarren the Dungeon Master, PhD. Sorry for the delay of game and cheers.
If'n Ah'm readin' ye right, congratulations 'r in order. Well done, sir!

Yer readin' me right. I defended today. ;-) thanks.
Getting down on your hands and knees allows you to crawl under the smoke.
Anyone who does this without first checking to see if the floor of the cave is, you know, really, really hot take 1 point of damage.
Waiting for the floor to cool a little, allows you to crawl under the smoke, through the room and into the tunnel beyond.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Crawling through the tunnels and down the corridor, keeping a careful eye out for little kobold feet, and you end here. The small chamber you end up in is smokey but you can see well enough. It appears to be empty of any kobolds. It contains three nests made from shreds of cloth packed into sandy beds.

They crawl to the room but not through it. It appears to be a deadend. You could have sworn a kobold ran down this way.

I meant through the room that was supposed to be a makeshift oven for the lot of us.
"Huh. I'm fer knowin' there was a wee lizard 'idin' in 'ere. 'n I didna get burnt by me imagination. Let's be fer seein' what's not fer bein' seen here..."
The dwarf starts searching the room for secret doors and panels and such. Would he have a bonus for doing this amongst stonework in the new rules? I don't have them at hand and so won't include any such bonus. He will also make an effort to listen for any invisible foes. I made several Perception rolls, so it may be enough for both purposes. Let me know if I need to make more.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Ovirid identifies a stone door that fits so snugly into the wall that its manufacture is beyond the capability of kobolds. Dwarves must have been involved in the manufacture of these rooms in the cliff.
As it opens, you see the tunnel proceeds in two directions, to the west and to the north. Ovirid hears several hissing voices from the west and hears one voice muttering in draconic to the north.

After an initial peek, Ovirid lets the door close again, as quietly as he can before turning to the others.
"I'm fer seein' a tunnel runnin' north 'n another west behind yon door. Sounds to be several critters 'issin' to the west, but I'm not fer knowin' the language. There's a voice comin' from the north, but Ah've 'eard the language afore -- it's the tongue of dragons -- I'm fer knowin' it when I 'ear it, but I'm not fer speakin' it."
He thinks for a moment before saying, "If'n one o' you knows the language, you might be fer knowin' what they're plannin' fer us. If'n ye don't, I can scout one way 'r the other - what're ye thinkin' would be best?"
He assumes the mage and sorcerer are more likely to know languages, so he's looking at them as he says this. No offense, Manfred! Tarren, was the tunnel large enough for Medium-sized creatures to move easily?

Janrith Baelriss |

Janrith blinks at the dwarf for a moment, as if his partner had suddenly changed into a kobold himself. Shaking his head he whispers "Of course I speak the tongue of dragons."
Stealth (if needed to get closer):1d20+2 = 3.

Finally, if he can make out the words, he attempts to determine if it is the sounds of spellcasting.
Spellcraft: 1d20+9 = 23.

Janrith:
Janrith can make out a number of voices from the room to the east hissing and muttering in draconic.
"Me kill pinkskins. Eat eyes. Eat noses. Eat ears."
"Shushes!! Theyz be hear you big snout!"
From the north, Janrith hears:
"Foolish mercenaries. Orc-slaves! Taste my flame!"

Mumbling to himself, Ovirid says, "Bah! All I'm fer knowin' is ye 'ave a thing fer badgers 'n ye can use a 'ealin' stick if asked. Dinna be fer gettin' yer britches in a bunch over it."
While the indignant sorcerer listens, Ovirid will load his light crossbow again.
"So which way 'r ye thinkin' we should be fer goin'?"

Ovirid Thorvirson |

Whispering, Janrith responds to Ovirid:
"To the east there appears to be more kobolds. To the north is some sort of deranged pyromaniac that thinks we are in league with orcs." He looks over at Yin and shrugs, "No offense."
"So the choice is fer goin' one way 'n 'ave a spellcaster behind us 'r t' other 'n 'avin' several more critters behind us? Ah'm not fer likin' either choice. 'ave a third option ta suggest?"

Yintarah Fireweaver |

"No offense."
Yin's eyes narrow as she pokes at a scorch mark on her arm both unimpressed at being hurt and oddly impressed at having found someone who thinks quite like her amongst the kobolds of all people. How Janrith's words have effected her is a little less obvious however as she remains oddly quiet, seemingly utterly lost in thought for te time being.

Ovirid Thorvirson |

"We're playing with fire, surely you're used to this by now" Yin replies in an amused tone.
"If'n ye're not fer mindin', lass, Ah'd just as soon ye were throwin' the fire instead of them. If'n we 'ave to choose, Ah'm fer tryin' ta take out the mage quick-like afore takin' on a mess o' little lizards."
Looking back at the human warrior, "Manfred, would ye be willin' ta be a rearguard while we look ta the mage? It's fer bein' 'ard ta keep ye quiet fer sneakin' 'n if anyone is able ta 'old off a group for a moment 'r two, it's fer bein' yerself."
I'm thinking that 1) Yintarah deserves a rematch, 2) Ovirid might be able to get quite close before hostilities must commence, and 3) Janrith may well be able to negotiate with the little fireslinger. NOTE: I'm only making a suggestion and am all too happy to go with someone else's idea.

Um, I may have misunderstood, but you didn't go back to the entrance to the cave, did you? Just for clarification in case it's necessary, I was referring to having you cover the tunnel to the west (with the gane of kobolds) while the other three traipse up the tunnel to the north (with the kobold fireslinger). Or at least have you behind the others in case the gang of kobolds gets their nerve up enough to attack us. And if I got those directions backwards, I'm apologizing in advance -- that's why I stated what I expected to find down each tunnel.

Ovirid Thorvirson |

Okay. So, what are you going to do? Are you going after the kobold? Marching order?
Awaiting confirmation from the others, but Ovirid's thought is to have Manfred guard the second corridor while the other three sneak toward the kobold fireweaver. I'm thinking Ovirid would take the lead, hoping to use his sneak attack on the mage with a crossbow bolt with Yintarah and Janrith following. If the two arcanists have other ideas, he will defer to their wishes. And if Yintarah goes haring down the tunnel on her own, he'll curse into his beard and hustle after her.

Ovirid Thorvirson |

Janrith is best coming up last, he is reduced to crossbowman and utility-healer at this point.
I take that to mean your spells for the day are used up. If that is the case, I would suggest that you use your crossbow to support Manred. Yin, how are you regarding remaining spells?

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Okay, you slowly walk down the corridor. KC, you're up.
KC:
You see four pinkskins coming toward you down the hall. A stocky one with disgusting tentacles of facial hair leads. Behind him is the one that has been blessed with the dragon's blood as well. Two take up the rear, keeping an eye on the den with the children in it.

I fully intended to take advantage of stealth and darkvision in my approach, but since I didn't state it before the action proceeded, I understand. Just sayin'. Feel free to roll the stealth for me if you're willing to allow it.
And, for the record, the fact that he's handing the reins to someone else makes me a wee bit nervous...

Right, then.
Having arrived at a plan, the dwarf motions the fireweaver to wait a moment while he sneaks down the corridor, crossbow readied.
Stealth check: 1d20+8=11
So glad I bothered to mention it, now. He is moving half-speed to get the full (if minimal) benefit of the stealth. And yeah, now I'm really nervous.

Ovirid Thorvirson |

Suddenly, the kobold leaps from behind the corner and grins. "Hello again, pinkskins!" he says, and speaks in an alien tongue. Flame shoots from his claws, straight at Orvrid.
Save DC 13, 6 fire damage for failure. Half damage if you make the save.
Belying his girth, the dwarf spins away from the flames, avoiding them entirely. Reflex Save 1d20+6=26 First save I think Ovirid's made, with Evasion to boot
"Ha! There ye be, do ye? Yin, I'm fer thinkin' I found yer playmate!" As if she didn't see the flash of light coming from the darkened hallway.
What's the distance between the kobold and the dwarf?
