Hi there,
wherever you currently look online, new first hand 4e playing experiences seem to spring up. I just read in a different thread that same as Paizo some other major rpg companies didn't get an official look into the 4e rules, either. But obviously they got a chance to test it and gain some first impressions on it.
E.g. Chris Pramas of Green Ronin Publishing in this article of his.
Surely some of you people at Paizo also got an opportunity to at least get a first glance at D&D experience and/ or in 4e test playing rounds. As the NDA doesn't seem to be effective/ as restrictive any more, could you please shed some light on your first impressions?
It is evident to me that any first impression of yours still wouldn't mean much in terms of which rule system Paizo will use in 2009. You certainly need more than first impressions for such a momentous decision.
But reading all of the chit-chat of questionable reliability on other sites, I feel myself looking forward to a more reliable first hand experience report - yours! ;-)
looking forward to your input,
Günther

Jason Bulmahn was at the D&D Experience, yes. He has posted some of his thoughts on his personal blog, and you'll find a few threads in this forum discussing that. However, his thoughts are his own, and do not necessarily reflect where Paizo as a whole stands. (As a whole, we still mostly stand in the dark at the moment.)

Hi Vic,
thanks for the pointer.
I know that for any official Paizo statement one crucial thing is missing: full access to the rules and licensing model.
Just curious about your personal impressions...

Has Paizo set a "drop dead" date, whereby the 3rd adventure path will be 3.5?
I mean, if they don't get the GSL to you by the end of this month, what will Paizo do?
James Jacobs answered this in another thread. He said he does have a hard fixed date, but he's not prepared to disclose it.
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but it's better than no answer at all.
EDIT: You know, in retrospect, when they've given out dates like this, it's been more trouble than it's worth because people remember them. It gets the community worked up and drives up the stress on everybody. And I'm as much to blame as anybody, because I tend to remember the little details and remind everybody what they were. I guess I'm saying I don't blame him for keeping it to himself. At least he admitted there was such a date.

Even when we do get them, I'm not sure we can give you what you're looking for. Whichever way we go, it would be inappropriate for us to be drawn into a debate about the qualitative merits of the 4E rule set.
Our answer will be to let our product announcements speak for themselves.

Fair answer.
Actually I grew so sick of one sided arguments on an unpublished ruleset that I am avoiding sites like enworld which seem to be all about this topic (and which I used to read quite often).. I am still playing 3.5 and who knows for how much longer?
Better to not pour oil into the edition flames. ;-) I can wait until the announcement.
Cheers,

Since the products are already announced, but the edition is not, how will we know to look? Will you be updating the information on the store when you know?

Trust me—when we answer one of the biggest questions Paizo has ever had to answer, we're not gonna just quietly slip it into a messageboard post. You'll know. But the focus will be on what we're doing, and not on what we're not doing.

I don't know about Vic, but I'm going to whisper our eventual decision to a gas station attendant in Bellevue and just assume that viral marketing will take hold and educate the planet. :-P
But, you know, that's just me.
Haha, at this point I would expect WotC themselves to let everyone know when they hand out the GSL. If only to let people know that they finally finished!

Aw, come on, you all already know the answer: Paizo is going to make the best product imaginable. Even if they make it in the wrong edition (I'll leave that up to you to determin) it'll still be better quality than any other publisher out there.

There is no wrong edition, only two different games with the same name. I will definitely have a look at the new Dungeons & Dragons, but I will also continue my old campaigns or start some "new" ones (i,e, Rise of the Runelords, Drow War etc.) still in the old Dungeons & Dragons.
