I am such a pushover! I want as many players as possible to have fun so here's my thread for a second group with all the character creation goodness!
Welcome to Daggerford
Situated on the flood plains of the Delimbiyr and built against the side of a low hill, Daggerford is a small, walled community dominated by the small castle of the local duke. The city is sparsely inhabited but strategically located where the High Road crosses the Delimbiyr River on the south side of the ford.
This self-styled city is a town of about 500 folk. The town is the largest stop on the High Road between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate. It's home to human craftsmen, a few halflings, and a handful of folk of other races. There are about 20 farming hamlets within a day's walk of Daggerford (15-20 miles), each of which is home to around five families. Each hamlet has a fortified building where the residents retreat in case of raids. There are also isolated farms and a few estates of minor nobility. In all, about 1,200 people depend on the Daggerford market for goods they can't make themselves.
All characters are currently residents of Daggerford and the surrounding area. Over 85% of the populace is human, A few of the dependent hamlets however consist entirely of halflings. Elves, dwarves, half elves and half orcs are all short in supply but the ones that are around are rather prominent in the community.
For more information on Daggerford please feel free to ask or download the shiny pdf 'The North' (which includes a poster map of the town) which is still available for free download from Wizards.com here
Rule Stuff
- First level characters
- 32 point Standard point buy system as outlined in the DMG
- All standard PC races allowed (Humans are especially encouraged though and nonstandard races will be considered with a good background)
- All standard PC classes allowed, including the Variant Character Classes & Specialist Wizard Variants from Unearthed Arcana which are detailed here
- Characters are allowed up to two character traits (optional)
- Alignments - Any non-evil
- Max HP for first level
- Max starting gold
- Feats are to be picked from the standard PHB selection but others will be accepted if they meet DM approval
- Spells are to be chosen from the PHB & The Spell Compendium
- No psionics, they make my brain bleed!
Skillful - All characters get 2 extra skill points per level. These points must be spent on Craft, Knowledge, Profession or Perform skills only. These bonus parts are multiplied as usual at first level (so 8 skill points useable on Craft, Knowledge, Profession and Perform skills at level 1, and 2 such skill points every subsequent level). In addition, all Craft, Knowledge,Profession and skills are considered class skills for these skill points. These skills get overlooked much too often!
Dice rolls are to be made using Invisible castle and I'm still working out the kinks of potential ways to deal with combat, but I will look into that once we're done with character creation; one step at a time afterall!
Also my husband may be making the occasional appearance as co-DM/writer of NPCs from time to time, just to forwarn you ;)

Greylan Mooneye |

Greylan is in the house!
--
** Character is almost finished. I intend to be a specialist wizard. With your approval I would like to take the variant 'Focused Specialist' from the Complete Mage (page 34.)
Basically, I give up a further school, and get additional spells per day of my chosen school.
If not, I am fine with the standard specialist.
Backstory ahoy!!

Kayotic DM |

Looking good so far :)
Greylan's mentor would most likely be the lovely Delfen "Yellowknife" Ondabarl - The local wizard who has his own tower and is happy to take on apprentices ;)
EDIT: Copied from the other discussion thread: 'The AP begins late spring of the Year of Lightning Storms (1374 dr) - for those of you who know lots about the Realms Gods this does indeed mean that there are currently some dead gods that haven't come back yet, Bane being a biggy for that.' As that is a useful bit of info ;)

Pat o' the Ninth Power |

Looks like I'm down for cleric, then, which is perfectly fine with me (or possibly druid, assuming people would chip in toward a wand of CLW after we've accumulated some loot).
I'm at a conference through Sunday, so my posting and character creation time is limited.
I should be able to pop back in before the evening is out, and with a little luck with more concrete character ideas.
ETA: And thanks for being a push-over! ;-)

I thought maybe Mikel could be a friend of Greylan's, since they have a shared interest in history?
Greylan's pretty eager for anything that could serve as a distraction. Some historical debate over a game of dragonchess or some wine is definitely in his agenda!
Of course, he rarely stays on topic long enough for it to be considered a matter of History proper. Politics, Religion, Philosophy, Magic all raise their heads.

RickyFlame |

kayos
any chance we could squeeze one more person in?
i'm looking at changing my character to play with a real life friend something like twin halfling barbarians/frenzied berserker's with the swarm fighting feat (page 105 complete warrior)
i imagine this will offer lots of fun role playing as well as highly combat capable characters

Kayotic DM |

OK that said to Ricky, onto the further questions/comments etc etc:
xdahnx: I'm fine with 'Focused Specialist'.. also I adore the name of his familiar! I'm such the girl, that had me going 'aww!' for quite some time!
FabesMinis: Either I can't count or you've underspent on stats by a mighty 1 point! I'm sure you've found it by now but max gold for a rogue is 200gp
Pat: A cure wand would be good as you're without cleric or I'm happy to allow the feat from complete divine that I have a habit of giving druids I play:
Spontaneous Healer
Prereqs: Knowledge Religion (4ranks), non evil alignment, abbility to cast any cure wounds spells.
Benefit: You can use your spellcasting ability to sponaneously cast cure spells (from your class spell list) just as a cleric can. You may use this ability a total number of times per day equal to your wisdom modifier.
In fact, thinking on it, I'm happy to give the feat to you for free as & when you have the prereq knowledge level as it's hardly game breaking and I know how good it is to have a healer in this AP ;)

Kayotic DM |

More information (you guys are going to hate me and my bombardment soon!)
Bonus equipment:
(A) Masterwork Battleaxe or Masterwork Heavy Mace or Masterwork Longsword or
(B) Masterworked Studded leather armour and 20 masterworked arrows
This is regional bonus equipment and applicable to one and all :) Pick one of the shiny offerings and your character gets it for free- oooh!

Hetta Smallbrow |

Hmm. A druid can't use any of that equipment. But I'll consider the Spontaneous Healer as a trade!
Rearranged my skills so I've got that at 1st, at the cost of being somewhat less perceptive.
I still hope the party will buy a wand of CLW or Lesser Vigor as soon as we have the loot.

Kayotic DM |

It is the problem with regional equipment, the North is quite hostile so the offerings reflect that.
I'd be happy to trade in something of lesser value instead though, there's nothing to say you didn't acquire one of those regional pieces of kit and take it to market to exchange it for something more druid friendly ;)

Cool -- how about masterwork studded leather medium barding? ;-)

Kayotic DM |

I'm going to actually use the 'Elf, Moon' regional kit, if you don't mind. As the only Elf, I recognize that it pertains to me. He's had 100+ years to pick it up; This Mstwk. Longbow is a family gift. He's had it for a long time.
That's more than fine by me :) Yay moonelf!
(this is ricky)
some sad news i couldn't talk my friend into playing his 5th pbp, so i'll be playing my original idea plain old human barb.
as for the masterwork greataxe, well i require a large greataxe so is there anyway i can get a large masterwork greataxe?
That's a shame, but at least we still have you ;)
You can get hold of one but you'll have to part with the price difference between the medium and large varieties - I can go dig in my books if need to to work out costings.
I've noted that a 1st-level druid's animal companion is usually a lot more combat-effective than the druid.
*laughs* Oh yes, the last druid I played was a wild elf with a wolf companion - that wolf became one of the biggest personalities in the party and saved all of our hides through the first adventure!

![]() |

Also, I never have a familiar. I always have a variant that replaces them, or simply do not have one.
My RL rat friend Chit-Chat died on Christmas this year. So I thought I would revisit all the fantastic times we had together with her on my shoulder/in my pocket.
Let's hope she doesn't get fireballed!

Jeny |

price difference is double normal cost so normal greataxe 20gp, large 40gp.
your saying i can pay the difference of 20gp? or i dont mind paying 40gp, for maybe the materials to make a large greataxe, then have someone in my home village or whatever make it into a masterwork axe
also i am working on my barb as i check forums... barbs are nice and simple and i'll probably be done very soon

I'm happy to let you have it for the 20gp difference. Damn you barbarians and your big weapon obsessions! (The female barbarian in the other group is going with large bastard sword ;) )

Awww! I adore rats, I shall try to play nice with Chit-Chat. I tend not to go after familiars unless the spellcaster is really stupid with them. The sorceress in my tabletop AoW campaign managed to get through the campaign with only one kidnapping of her weasel companion ;)

Kayotic DM |

Looking good to me Ricky! I'm just finishing off writing up my ideas for the start of the IC thread but once I've done that I'm all yours for another couple of hours (at which point I have to drop offline as I'm running the Shackled City AP for my tabletop group tonight!) to help with ideas for god(s) & background bits

Hetta Smallbrow |

Did a little min-maxing, but still tweaking.
Kayos, would you allow the "hunting druid" variant from UA?
DruidThe druid might choose to give up her wild shape ability in exchange for becoming a swift and deadly hunter.
GainBonus to Armor Class when unarmored (as monk, including Wisdom bonus to AC), fast movement (as monk), favored enemy (as ranger), swift tracker (as ranger), Track feat (as ranger).
LoseArmor and shield proficiency, wild shape (all versions)

Pat o' the Ninth Power |

So, we've got:
Hetta - female halfling druid
Jeny - female human barbarian
Mikel - male human rogue
Greylan - male elf wizard
Is that right?
Lightly armored crowd, but looks like fun. I haven't looked at the spoilered stats, but we might be light on ranged attacks. Technically, Hetta could take a sling, but would be doing 1d3-2 (which is also what her melee attack does). We just need to get Greylan a wand of Magic Missile when we're shopping!

Hetta Smallbrow |

This discussion brings up a point. I glanced through the other group's discussion, and realized it might be a help to say what we can do, in as much or as little detail as we feel like.
Hetta Smallbrow, halfing hunter-druid.
Decent knowledge of religion and local, good knowledge: nature.
Good perception skills, excellent tracker.
Favored enemy: Animals.
No significant physical damage production, but a war-trained mount, and there's always Entangle.
Healing battery.

Mikel Cormaeril, human martial rogue
No sneak attack
Two weapon fighter
Very good Diplomacy, Gather Info, and Bluff
Very good Disable Device and Open Locks
Decent Spot, Listen
Good secondary melee, and good ranged.
KAYOS - Can I exchange the masterwork arrows for masterwork bolts? Pur-leeze?

![]() |

Greylan Mooneye
Specialist Conjurer - Gets many spells from the conjuration department.
I was actually thinking of dropping Evocation, Enchantment, and Necromancy. So no Magic Missiles for Greylan! However, the Orb of X spells are conjuration! Maybe some of those in a wand would be awesome.
Greylan's also got a Masterwork Longbow, Point Blank Shot, and 18 Dex.
He has points in all knowledge skills;

Hetta Smallbrow |

I still need to buy a few things, my friends, but I would love to join you for a drink at *insert pub name here* while we talk it over!
Hetta climbs up one of the ladder-stools the pub keeps for the town's smaller residents to sit across from Greylan -- at 2'11", even an ordinary chair is a scramble for her.
She calls for a half-mug of beer and some stew, and looks at the elf. More precisely, she looks at Greylan's left shoulder. "Oh, may I?" She digs into a pouch and pulls out a small handful of seeds and nuts, reaching up to offer them to ChitChat.

Jeny |

Jeny:
cutest one in the party
if thats not good enough:
50ft movement, knowledge history & dungeoneering, good at killing things.
i'm also most likely to kill the party at lvl 10
Suggesting: between now an lvl 10 somebody may want to invest in a wand of calm emotions or hold person or something.

Greylan Mooneye |

Greylan looks at the proferred nuts and acquiesces. Chit-Chat is already sniffing and grabbing at the treats.
"Once again, Chit-Chat is the star of the evening."
Half to himself, he manages to utter:
"The name's Greylan, if you're interested. This is Chit-Chat, and a friend of hers is a friend of mine."
Greylan salutes an Elven greeting, passing his hand quickly across his heart before extending his hand to the halfling.

Mikel Cormaeril |

Entering the tavern with a grin like a Cormyran tressym, Mikel salutes Greylan and heads over to the elf.
"Greylan, glad to see you dropping the books and hitting the booze!" he says good-naturedly, "And entertaining, I see!"
He adopts a stage-whisper "I'd watch out, ladies, I hear he reserves a charm person spell for just such occasions."

Kayotic DM |

KAYOS - Can I exchange the masterwork arrows for masterwork bolts? Pur-leeze?
Yes, you may :)
*insert pub name here*
Pubs; The Blackstone Inn, Chateau Elite Inn, Daggerford Inn, Dragonback Inn, The Happy Cow, The Lady Luck Tavern & The River Shining Tavern.
Plenty to chose from ;)

Kayotic DM |

Greylan Mooneye |

"What me? You know I would never do something like that! Well, certainly not anymore! Not since that time I let you buy me a drink! I've sworn off charm spells for good."
Certain that he's not going to get any reading done, Greylan picks his book off the table, closes it, and places it underneath him on his seat, giving him an almost imperceptible boost in posture and size.
"As for this book, there's no way I'm going to get into it with you two around. It demands more concentration than I can afford right now. It's one of Old-Man Ondabarl's . I swear I've read pretty much all of them at this point. I'll let you read it when I'm done with it, Mikel."
