We've just announced the titles and descriptions for Pathfinder 14–17:

September: Pathfinder #14—Second Darkness Chapter 2: "Children of the Void"

October: Pathfinder #15—Second Darkness Chapter 3: "The Armageddon Echo"

November: Pathfinder #16—Second Darkness Chapter 4: "Endless Night"

December: Pathfinder #17—Second Darkness Chapter 5: "A Memory of Darkness"

Note that the covers and listed authors are very much provisional at this point.

We haven't officially decided what edition these products support yet, but we expect to announce a decision within a couple of weeks.

Oh—and welcome to the new Second Darkness boards!

Noooo! Still more waiting!

~cries~ But I want to know NOW!!! ~wails in dispair~

~grumbles~ I am more than willing to blame Mike for this, even though WotC is really to blame! Mike, are you ready to becomet he scapegoat of the year? Do you think you can handle it?

Gorgeous titles! I'm already ready to play!
*checks calendar*
Doh!

~sighs~ Ok. Where do I sign the contract that offers Paizo my soul for all of these nice goodies?

Paizo Employee Director of Narrative

Umm....that'd be page nine of issue #18.

NO WAY! Please, I would seriously prefer that Mike, Jason, Wesley, and James write these! Oh man, as much as I love the freelancers, I love me some Paizo adventures! Please, please, please...

Seconded, but throw one to the Logue!

Thanks Vic, it's good to join you here today on the Second Darkness Boards! =)

Now on to todays Hot Topic of Interest...

Pathfinder #14... Love the "Hot Chick with Big Magical Falchion".

Pathfinder #17... That Spider Guy (Ranger/Rogue?) looks waaaay cool. I would consider using him as the basis for one of my characters. What are the weapons he is holding? Just Punch daggers, or are they something special you guys have cooked up? Please let it be something you guys cooked up, so far all of your "New Equipment" has been excellent... Sawtooth Sabres and Starknives ahoy! ;)

Seriously though. All of those cover look really great already. If you guys still have work to do on them it must only be touch ups.

All that artwork was snarfed from other upcoming products—we haven't even begun to commission the real art.

You'll get to know the hot chick long before Second Darkness. But, uh... you might not want to ask her out on a date after you learn a bit more about her.

I don't know what's creepier... that you are willing to sign your soul away so quickly (although it is Pathfinder, so who wouldn't), or that you carry around a pen filled with your own blood ready for just such an occasion! ;)

The Exchange

Sweet!
Is WAR only doing covers for the first 12? The iconics still look pretty dang sweet.

Also, re: Endless Night, I wish Shelob had been that creepy in LOTR. :(

Honestly, I'm actually more interested in the Spider Guy from #17 than the chick. I am already starting to think of ways I can create a character concept for him. I'm thinking Urban Ranger/Rogue, with Spider Animal Companion and a bit of a fetish for Arachnids. Two-Weapon Path with those funky looking blades.

I wonder if the tentative authors of the Second Darkness modules (Jacobs, McArtor, Bulmahn, Schneider, & reJacobs) are any indication of the edition? ;)

EDIT: Just stirring the pot a bit...

I notice that these product descriptions all include a "bonus adventure". Yay! Are these like Side Treks, or more like mini-adventures? Either is great...

If you have the time to scroll through the thread, I think that the answer to the question which you asked (and probably several others which you didn't ask) might be found on the thread with the transcripts of the Tuesday night chats, at this link here.

(I would recommend that you try the more recent transcripts, from February 2008, first.)

I'll certainly be answering lots more questions about these adventures at tomorrow's chat, but to get a few out of the way early:

1: All of the art pictured on these mockup covers are characters and illustrations from the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path.

2: Starting with Second Darkness, each Pathfinder WILL have a short, 8-page or so, side quest adventure. The main adventures themselves will be a little bit shorter to make room for this, and to make the main adventures more focused and, frankly, easier for us to develop and edit (the 50 page adventures are not-so-slowly killing Yours Truly).

3: Jason, Mike, and Wes are pretty locked in to writing their adventures. I'm not so locked in; my name's up there as a placeholder for now. I'd LOVE to write one of these adventures... but I'm not sure I have time. We'll see.

...Where did you find a pen capable of holding dragon blood? Every time someone tries it with me, it burns through the container.

Good to hear.

I hope that the GSL/NDA will allow you to say if and when Paizo will switch.

To me, Second Darkness will either the last (though I hope not) product of the 3.X ruleset ,or the testbed for 4E stuff which I'll convert straight away to my own homebrewed d20 ruleset, so this AP is in a win-win situation. :-)

Thank you, James. I'm very excited to hear about the bonus adventure. Great stuff.

...the Devil's Elbow?

Oh, I can't wait to see what kind of terrain feature inspired that name... o.O

Dark Archive

Is this AP still 3.5 compliant? I see it mentions OGL...

Man... this is everything I hoped for and more!

I am really really excited and happy about this!

And there is an urge to gloat, because I was one of the first to guess that part of the plot would be calling down more pieces of the sky to darken the surface world..

But the thrill isn't in being right (and I'm obviously not taking any credit for it), it's the notion that an adventure that I thought sounded super cool is actually going to be made.

It's like wishing for something and having someone say, "Coincidentally, we have that specific thing in production!"

Lol, okay, I'll stop now.. before I build expectations too high.

I like the idea about the bonus adventures. Are they going to be more site base than AP based?

Since I named this adventure, and since I wrote the outline and summary, and since I've never read Robert Jordon (tried once, hated it)... it's a coincidence. I'm not even sure how it'd be an hommage, to be honest. <shrug>

Both. I think. I'm not 100% sure how this'll work out, yet.

A week or two. She's a key character in Crimson Throne who's one of the first NPCs the PCs meet in the first adventure.

The working title for the last book (posthumous) is "Memory of Light."

If there will be a drow write up in #3 (I think), what will happen to the blank space in #1?

The blank space in #1 gets taken up by a bonus adventure and a presentation of the Gold Goblin Gambling Hall, which is going to be "home base" at the start of the campaign, and which also will present several cool gambling games for Golarion.

I love that name. It just rolls off the tongue. Gold Goblin Gambling...Gold Goblin Gambling...

I don't believe I can wait until Curse of the Crimson Throne is finished to see Second Darkness. I recommend releasing all 6 parts of CotCT next month, followed immediately by the first episode of Second Darkness. Thanks! :P

I support this view and would like to subscribe to your journal.

HUZZAH!

¿That means that the question "if Pathfinder will appear under the fourth" is yes and the only question remaining is "when"?

Please, forgive my poor english.

If you're asking about 4th Edition, no, we haven't officially decided yet. We expect to soon, though.

As much as I love your work Mike... Zombie Mike™ would get more writing done as he would never need to rest. Although the quality of the work would drop, so instaed of the intended win/win situation it turns into more of a win/lose turn of events.

Thankfully that is actually the criteria of the editing required by WotC for 4 ed.
