Hey Altai-
I think this concept works better for a spellcaster than having a wizard using a crossbow. It fits them more, flavor-wise, in my opinion. Attacks with Combat wands are ranged touch attacks.
These wands are made by saturating the wand in rare resins and alchemical substances that are infused with the energy type of the wand to be made.
Although they channel arcane energy, most wands are not magical themselves. For purposes of further enchanting them, they are considered masterwork weapons which are limited to only being able to receive enhancement bonuses (+1 through +5) and not the special abilities of weapons.
Special- For every 3 points the wielder’s concentration check exceeds the wand’s DC, the wielder may add 1 point of their ability bonus (of their primary casting ability, determined by highest caster level) to damage. So a wizard who exceeds the DC by 9 may add up to +3 points of his/her intelligence modifier to damage.
Special- Combat wands are considered one handed weapons for the purposes of two weapon fighting. They require great mental training and focus to use.
Special- Any effect that applies a penalty of bonus to the wielder’s attack, is also applied to the concentration check. Examples: Two weapon fighting penalties, being prone, recipient of a Bless spell.
Special- An attack with a Combat wand is treated as a ranged attack for determining things like attacks of opportunity.
Combat Wands:
Wand Type/Base Cost/Base Damage/Concentration DC/Range
1/750gp/1d4/10/40ft
2/1000gp/1d6/15/40ft
3/1500gp/1d8/20/60ft
4/3000gp/1d10/25/60ft
5/5000gp/1d12/30/80ft
Energy Type/Multiplier Cost*
Fire/0gp
Cold/50gp
Electricity/50gp
Acid/75gp
Sonic/100gp
Force/500gp
(* multiply the energy cost by the wand’s type, and add this cost to the wand’s base
cost to determine the overall price. So a Type 5 Combat wand of Force will cost 7500gp.
5000gp (Wand type 5) + 2500 (Price of the Force energy type time the Wand type: 500X5)
THE WAND YOU HAVE---Type 1 combat wand of cold (800gp, 1d4 base damage, DC 10 concentration to activate, range of 40 feet) You can add up to your primary casting ability modifier to damage at a rate of +1 for every 3 points you exceed the base concentration check. They hit with a ranged touch attack.

1d20 7=20 concentrate, 1d20 3=22 ranged touch, 1d6 1=6 Damage.
GRRRRRrrrr! *sweat beads on Riese's head from the effort he is using to draw forth the wand's power...*
Little help here guys!
Elgan Dreadwood
Reading way too fast and WAY too late. I saw the monk drop, but the halfling is still standing right? And now the merrow-man.
With a snarl, Elgan the cat swiftly lunges over the body of the scarlet brotherhood monk and snaps at the little !@#$% that sliced him!
Elgan's to hit/dmg roll vs halfling: (1d20 3=20, 1d6 3=9)
Ok. I take back everything I have ever said about Invis Castle! Take THAT ya lil' !@#$, payback's a *@#$%! :)

ROFLMAO!!!!
with Elgan's attack, she's not dead, but she's dropping her weapon and surrendering; one more hit and she's dead anyway.
Becton; Beldan; Harvak...
The Mapper
dungeonmaster heathy
I'll wait til Harvak agrees where he wants to stand; Tobus: on the map link, where Harvak is positioned, that's as far as you can get on your turn with a double move. Ergo you can't attack, however if you'd rather be positioned back some more, that's cool too.
I also don't know what Beldan wants to try, so since 1/2 of the group is going to sleep soon I might as well leave this as a tarry spot until Harvak; Beldan; Becton get around to chiming in.
Will they come to the aid of their comrade Riese? Or will they leave him to the tender mercy of the cannibal from under the sea?
Tune in next time! ;)
Elgan Dreadwood
LUV the map! LMAO, glad i work in the back of a theater by myself, don't have to explain sudden outbursts to anyone!
If I'm counting squares right, I can get to L10 with a double move. (50' move when shifted, and moving thru comrades is allowed) So Elgan will answer the calls for assistance!
Seeing the halfling surrender, Elgan backs up a step to catch his breath. And observe Gittick's interrogation techniques.
At Reise's yelp, his cat-ears perk up, he spins in place and dashes back out of the room. He hurtles past and between his comrades legs as he dashes through the tunnel, following his nose and the bestial roar of the merrow.
In a furry flurry Elgan bursts into the room from between Reise's legs with a roar of his own.
Elgan the cat then skids to a halt behind Harvak, his roar becoming a strangled mewling as he sees what Harvak is facing,...
Let's call it K9, now that he sees what it is! He'll be far enough away for Elgan to try a lil' casting first! But close wnough to help HArvak if needed.
Becton of Pelor
I had moved to N3 awhile back, but since all is well in that corner of the dungeon...I'll just take up where I am at I3.
Seeing that the green woman is alive and out cold, Becton will make his way down the hallway to join Riese at K7.
If he can attack (or soon thereafter), then he'll fire his crossbow at the ogre in question. Ogres have LAY-ERS!
Crossbow Shot (1d20+2=12)Crossbow Damage (1d8=3)

If'n Ida seen the map wit' da ogre on it, Riese would've been truly frightened o' the beastie! To bad I left Donkey in town...
Riese reaches down to pet the cat as he passes below him.;P

Dude, I really gotta see a 'how to' for making these maps. I work in Paint, which is a free photoshopish program along the lines of Gimp. I also sometimes use Gimp...If you could post a quick instruction guide I would love it.

The ogre smites Harvak with the massive flail; the iron skull ball headbutts Harvak's forehead.
Then, the animated mouth of the hammerhead shark shield bites Harvak in the shoulder.
Harvak takes 15 h.p. in damage.
"Come, get some death, little orc!"
Next round; when Beldan comes around, he gets the last round to move, then can attack.
ROUND 6!!!
Beldan Vale
Beldan scoots down the corridor behind Harvak, double move, heading around the cavern wall, around behind the boat, trying not to lose his nerve, drawing his rapier.
Next turn, moves around behind the boat, goes for a flanking position, P12 – stabs! Poorly!
Attack:7 (doh!) + 2 +2 (flanking) = 11 … miss?
If by chance it hits: 1 + 6 (sneak attack)
dungeonmaster heathy
Forgot my favorite enemy is giants +2 bonus
(lol)As Beldan stabs into the beast's corpulent left glute, the (+2) from Harvak kicks in and the ogre's head slpaps to the ground.
The shieldshark grips a bite into the thing's belly; it's body thrashing to rip a chunk out of it as it lies dead in the sand.
It's dead, but the shield is still biting, still thrashing, its dead doll eyes blinking; glossing over with the bite membrane.
END OF COMBAT!!!
Back in about 1/2 hour with xp each; the rest of a treasure list.

I got bit by a shield in the shape of a hammer head shark of a aquatic ogre merrow?! How F*%Kin cool is that! talk about a tale!
It's a shark zombie with a merrow's arm up its backside being utilized as a shield.
I think it's actually possible, per the rules.| Beldan Vale |

Not to mention what one has come to expect in this campaign. ;D
Good stuff! The big fella was scary as hell.
dungeonmaster heathy
At first, I was going to have those two remaining guys shoot at you all from behind the boat with crossbows. Then, says I,...I figured a merrow's been swimming around, watching these guys, waiting to pounce...(har har har)!
500 xp each!
searching the defeated,...
merrow:
mwork heavy flail (a medium sized dude can wield 2-handed)
a pouch with 5 pearls; worth about....hmm....100 g.p. each
monk:
a set of gold teeth; 200 g.p.
the other guys:
mwork long sword
mwork short sword(small sized from the halfling rogue)
the halfling had two potions which she says are "potions of cat's grace."
400 g.p. in misc. coin and tradable items of ltd. interest
2x150 g.p. diamond earrings (on the foppish trashtalking rapierman)
There's about 2,000 g.p.(retail) in kegs of rum, beer, bolts of cloth, and kegs of vinegar; smuggler's goods
The table in the room where the halfling was is covered with black tarry substance in forearm-sized rolls of paper; some were being put into sealed glass jars and put in the vinegar kegs.
heal check d.c. 15; alchemy d.c. 10, knowledge local d.c.20:
The vinegar kegs are stamped with "Shyfford Pickled Herring Concern," Saltmarsh's local....herring pickling company.

Do any of our enemies - alive or dead - look like the "ghosts" we saw upstairs?
"The weird-looking one's out cold. I say we tie them up in separate rooms and then take them to the sheriff in Saltmarsh once we're done here. One thing, though - are there any more smugglers around?"
