Wouldn't the AC be 16? 10+3+1+2=16
Yeah. It was a late night taking care of my daughter. On my file I did put 16.
I can also change the favored enemy. Doesn't really have to stick. Just thought it was funny that I had this one floating around on my hard-drive. Thought he would be good for this game. The name is my little joke.

That is completely up to you. It seems to me, metagame wise, that picking dragon as a favored enemy early in a Ranger's career is tactically better at higher levels when the bonus starts getting bigger and the dragons get tougher. On the other hand, at low levels you don't meet a lot of dragons and so it can feel wasted.

Well the other reason I figured this may be a bad choice that in a metagame way this could also be used against Kobolds since they are of Draconic race in 3.x. But if you think this is a far fetch I can change it to something else.

Races of the Dragon notwithstanding, the SRD lists Kobolds as small humanoid: reptilian.
A ranger would have to have favoured enemy: reptilian humanoids in order to get a bonus against kobolds.

A little town flavor.
The small village of Falcon’s Hollow is a wild place. Nestled in the shadow of Droskar’s Crag, the people of Falcon’s Hollow are hearty and stern. Their’s is a life of hardships… They face constant adversity from both the wilderness and the wiles of man. Wolves nip at their heels and cutpurses ply at their pockets…
Falcon’s Hollow is a rough community. A ‘company town,’ it is owned by the local Lumber Consortium, a rather pitiless collection of thugs and thieves. Most of the citizens of the town work for the Lumber Consortium in one way or another, being paid coppers for their hard work as they cut the precious darkwood trees. Many of those that migrate to Falcon’s Hollow are running from something: religious persecution, slavery, or the law. The wilds around the town, notably Darkmoon Vale and Droskar’s Crag, do draw adventurers, but few of these last long.
I'll do a little of this at a time, detailing things the PCs are likely to know.
Terry Dyer
You mean for favored enemy? You can switch all you want until the game actually starts. :)
How active are kobolds actually in the area prior to the adventure? Would it really be a feasible choice as a favored enemy if my character patrols the surroundings? I'm just not sure what causes the most problems for the workers and the settlement itself.

Kobolds are, in all honesty, likely a minor nuisance compared to the bugbears, ogres, magical plants, wild animals, capricious fey, werewolves and occasional giants.
And all of that is just the wilderness. Most people worry more about the local 'tax-collectors' and other company men. They figure the company will kill them long before they accidently stumble under a hang-man's tree.

Never mind me; I just thought I would “eyeball” your game discussion. DitheringFool tipped me off to this game in another thread. On one hand I’m sorry I missed out on a chance to play in this game. I had a great time adventuring with Caerival Master of Shank Wood (and Gloam) in Sandpoint. Unfortunately that game has ground to a halt. On the other hand I’m already adventuring in Falcon’s Hollow in our common adventuring friend Radavel’s game.
I will be checking in on ya’lls game on a regular basis. A lurker’s work is never done…
PS DitheringFool, does Prat know you stole his avatar?

The party thus far:
Turnipin Acorncap: Gnome Evoker (Ditheringfool)
Bowen Quaid: Human Ranger (Terry Dyer)
Rall Kinast: Human Rogue variant (Tarren Dei)Possible Members
Halfling Cleric (Newbie)Still waiting to hear from NoddyNinjaGnome
LOL ... I misread that first time. I thought the player was named Noddy and he was playing a Ninja Gnome in Falcon's Hollow. hehehe. But that's not it at all is it? :-)
Rall Kirnast
Rall Kirnast enters The Sitting Duck trying to look like he might be there on official business. He walks around the tavern twice nodding to the customers with a confidant smile and winks at the serving girl thinking 'Might as well give her a thrill!' as he does so.
Catching a glance of his reflection in one of the tankards of ale, he muses 'I bet I'm the best looking fellow in this party. I mean ... Gnomes don't count, right? ... and that Shoanti fellow probably has a charisma penalty ... definitely made charisma his dump stat. Hmmm ... wonder who else is joining. A lass might be fun? Any chance one of the others will be a lass? ... Ahh, well, guess I'll just wait here in the tavern for the rest to arrive.'
Rall Kirnast
Here is a start. I'll get a lot more added tonight and tomorrow.
'Screw Desna,' thinks Rall looking over the halfling's character sheet 'Cayden Cailean makes more sense as my deity. I mean ... without luck I'd have been killed for that little misunderstanding ... wine, I'll never say no to a glass ... and charm? C'mon, look at these eyes and tell me that Cayden Cailean isn't the God for me! Besides, it gives a reason for the two of us to associate ... Hmmm, I wonder if Cayden Cailean is better looking than me ... he could be. I mean he is a God after all.'
Bowen Quaid
I bet I'm the best looking fellow in this party. and that Shoanti fellow probably has a charisma penalty ... definitely made charisma his dump stat.
It isn't my fault that you people don't understand my ways. With my people I'm quite the lady charmer. Now if I can get used to all this talk while I am trying to drink I may be better off.

I found Falcon's Hollow but could not quite make out the names of the cities around it.
I couldn't make out anything closer so Rall is from the City of Oppara in Taldor. He's run a long way to make sure he never has to pay the price for bedding the wife (and stealing the necklace) of the Head of the Thieves' Guild there.

A bit more town flavor
Only the desperate and the brave is the proud motto of Falcon’s hollow. Few choose a life on the outskirts of Darkmoon, whose dim, mist laden forest are prowled by feral beasts, reeking trolls, and the restless souls of the dead. Fewer still possess the steely will to venture into the haunted ruins of the once-great dwarven kingdom.
Falcon’s Lumber Consortium: A powerful collection of unscrupulous tycoons and magnates of the lumber trade. Its representatives control most of the tree-felling camps, the cutyards, in the area around the vale. Those who refuse to join or work for the consortium are often beaten by thugs or sometimes they simply disappear. Three hundred lumberjacks and almost half as many again sells-swords work for the consortium. Ostensibly the sell-swords are to protect the lumberjacks from monsters, but in effect they form a small army under the control of the consortium.
Sheriff Deldrin Baleson: A half-elf and one of the few to stand up against the lumber consortium, the sheriff carries an axe as the symbol of his office. The lumber bosses hate him for Sheriff Baleson is a reminder to them that they can’t successfully oppress all of the people all of the time.

Famous last words: 'Falcon's Hollow? Never heard of it. That seems like a decent place to hide and stay out of trouble. I mean, seriously, what could ever happen to a nice fellow like me in a quiet little place like Falcon's Hollow?'.
Much to Rall's surprise, he has come to admire the sheriff for his principled stance and take his duties somewhat seriously ... somewhat ... "I mean, a guy's got to be allowed some fun, right?".

Turnipin has a passion for calligraphy...if I wanted to take craft skill(s) related to inks and paper making, would that be two seperate skills (I would assume so)? Would you consider calligraphy a craft or profession (I could go either way).
thanks
Calligraphy is listed as a craft in the player's handbook. You would also find that there is also Profession(scribe) listed as well.
A Calligrapher focuses on the art of making beautiful paper, ink and writing (what I personally would consider the best fit for what you discribe above)
A Scribe focuses on accuracy and efficiency more than the artistic value of what they do. Subsets of Scribe would include Cartography(Map making), Diction(Spoken word to paper) and Transcription(Copying and/or translation of written word)
A good comparative example is a Scribe would make a properly worded legal document such as a Writ of Passage, a Calligrapher could rewrite the Writ with presentation style flowing script and borders that would be as presented by a nobleman.

Is there any chance we could set a deadline of some sort for Noddy to indicate whether or not he is still interested/playing in this game? I dislike being left in limbo, especially when I have a barbarian alter ego ready and waiting to let loose.
Go ahead and get your character ready.

Calligraphy is a craft, as is paper making, but they are two seperate crafts. There is a paper mill in Falcon's Hollow if that helps.

Thanks! I've had my head in the SRD for so long I forgot to look in the PHB.
Thanks LongreachJones, I appreciate the help!

"Hmmm ... paper making and calligraphy, eh? What kinds of things would you be needing to make paper for? You DO REALIZE that forging documents is illegal, don't you? Don't let me see you getting up to no good, Turnipin."

Sorry guys/gals... I have been very ill the last 2 days (Flu). I am STILL VERY INTERESTED and want to participate. I am going to get with DitheringFool tomorrow to get my character together (since this will be a first time for me with PBP). However, if I am too late on all this I can understand and won't mind (too much) if you all go forward without me.
Thanks for being patient.

1 question before my character is ready, are you allowing feats from the Complete series of books?
The ones I am looking at specifically are Monkey Grip(CW), Shock Trooper(CW) and Leap Attack(CA)
Monkey grip is fine.
Are you sure Shock Trooper is in Complete Warrior. I can't find it in the feats (pg#?). Can you summarize?
I don't have Complete Arcane so a summary of Leap Attack would be appreciated.

My plan, for all concerned, is to start the game either on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm still working out the details in my head (weather, seasons, etc.).
In the interest of providing what the people want, I am curious - would the players prefer a town oriented game (politics, etc) with forays into the dungeons or would the players prefer a dungeon oriented game (with forays into the town)? Or a little of both?
LongreachJones
Spoiler Tagged for your convenience.
Shock Trooper
Type: Tactical
Source: Complete Warrior, Page 112
You are adept at breaking up formations of soldiers when you rush into battle.
Prerequisite: Improved Bull Rush, Power Attack, base attack bonus +6.
Benefit: The Shock Trooper feat enables the use of three tactical maneuvers.
Directed Bull Rush: To use this maneuver, you must make a successful bull rush attempt as part of a charge. For every square you push your foe hack, you may also push that foe one square to the left or right.
Domino Rush: To use this maneuver, you must make a successful bull rush attempt that forces a foe into the same square as another foe. You may make a free trip attempt against both foes at the same rime, and neither foe gets a chance to trip you if your attempt fails.
Heedless Charge: To use this maneuver, you must charge and make the attack at the end of the charge using your Power Attack feat. The penalty you take on your attack roll must be -5 or worse. In addition to normal charge modifiers (which give you a -2 penalty to AC and a +2 bonus on the attack roll), you can assign any portion of the attack roll penalty from Power Attack to your Armor Class instead, up to a maximum equal to your base attack bonus.
Special: A fighter may select Shock Trooper as one of his fighter bonus feats.
Leap Attack
Type: General
Source: Complete Adventurer, Page 110
You can combine a powerful charge and a mighty leap into one devastating attack.
Prerequisite: Jump 8 ranks, Power Attack.
Benefit: You can combine a jump with a charge against an opponent. If you cover at least 10 feet of horizontal distance with your jump, and you end your jump in a square from which you threaten your target, you can double the extra damage dealt by your use of the Power Attack feat. If you use this tactic with a two-handed weapon, you instead triple the extra damage from Power Attack.
This attack must follow all the normal rules for using the Jump skill and for making a charge, except that you ignore rough terrain in any squares you jump over.

How about a little of both? I am interested in Turnipin living and working in Falcon's Hollow BUT to really advance in power and knowledge he will probably have to venture forth a lot.
I'm going to try to finish his background today.

Probably best to play it by ear for that. By my experience, a good mix will often work best.

I concur with 'a bit of both'. Rall is a bit more of a con man but has some useful rogue skills for the dungeon as well. I think he is underpowered for a dungeon crawl but we've got 6 in the party so that's cool. In town? We have got to be the most charismatic group of adventurers I've seen in a while. Town is probably the place some of those skills would be used. While I can't imagine any scenario that may require Rall to break out his 'Madame Yuselli the Fortune Teller from Far Varisia' costume, I'm sure he's dying to put the dress on again.

There is a resounding thump as a 50lb Greataxe is dropped into the weapon rack by the door and the hulking form of Balnar Helmslad enters the room.
Giving a curt nod to a group of nearby locals, he makes directly for the bar.
Rall eyes Balnar carefully. 'Wouldn't want to go up against him in a fair fight,' thinks Rall. 'Actually, I see no reason to go against anyone in a fair fight.'
