13 problems with 4e (so far) hasn't turned into EditionGallipoli...

Hey lets make a list of 13 problems with 4e threads...

1.)Too many people posting the same drek over and over, Crossedwiredmind heeding the call and answers everything or trying to show you how you or 3.5 is wrong/broken...;)

Dark Archive

2). DangerDwarf and his 2nd Edition comments.

3.) Someone has to tell you that they're not going to switch, or that they are going to switch. And that's all they tell you. Like "thanks for that service announcement."

Dark Archive Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games

4) Someone points out the obvious: WotC's marketing of 4E has not been very good at reaching its current customer base. Followed by: They did that on purpose, those ignorant @#$#!$!!

(Lucky for me there's no rule that says we can't be guilty of some of these ourselves! ;-) )

Dark Archive

5). When all else fails...claim WotC is lieing.

6) Poster brings up the loss of support for their favorite game world(s), despite the fact that official material was lost an entire edition ago, and once more raises the banner that their favorite world should be core.

Dark Archive

4e is killing Birthright!

Dark Archive

7) They're wrecking the flavor/history/lore/feel of the Realms with this meta-event Spellplague thing!

Again, you mean. They did that already with the Time of Troubles. Get off my lawn, you kids!

8) As much as I know that it will only make me wince in pain, I can't stop reading them!

Dark Archive Bella Sara Charter Superscriber

9) People insist on having opinions that do not match mine.

10.) Remarks about how 4E ignores or disregards 'twenty five years of gaming tradition', as if that was their own original thought and not something Erik Mona said publicly months before.

10.1). especially when incorrectly citing something as part of that tradition.

11) People posting personal attacks and/or inflammatory opinions; sometimes apparently deliberately, sometimes apparently without realising what they're posting may be winding ther people up and inviting a venomous response.

12) New 4E thread anytime someone wants to rant. Or hears a rumor from a friend of a father's brother's uncle's cousin's former roommate. Or sees the number 4 or the letter E. Or happens to live in a world with free oxygen.

Oh and:
13) Endless complaints about things instead of taking intiative, if there is an actual real or perceived problem, to try to take [legal] practical action to solve those problems.
EG Point 7) from earlier in ths list, but how many websites have been started so far to provide alternate Forgotten Realms histories if there is so much unhappiness around with the 'official' version of events? Greyhawk players have their own unofficial support sites, so it's not as if its impossible to do anything without Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro's 'say so'...

I think we need more than 13.

DangerDwarf wrote:

14) Posters refuse to take initiative and go beyond TB's original 13 problems with 4E threads.

Is that an actual problem with a 4E thread though? <Reflects> Probably given that this thread includes the phrase '4E' in the title.

14.5) Threads rapidly going off the original topic, becoming arguements or debates with little to do with the original post/thread title, encouraging the starting up of *yet more* 4E threads elsewhere to restart the original debates. (See OGL threads for one such instance.)

In Korea '4' is an unlucky number because it is pronounced 'sa' which suggests death. ... Coincidence? I think NOT.

15. Numerological explanations for the empty feeling in my stomach whenever I think about 4E.

Dark Archive

16. The words 'grognard,' 'hater' and 'poison.' Ugh. Disagreeing does not require name-calling or hyperbole. I'm just gonna clutch my pearls and faint dead away if someone doesn't agree with everything I've ever said, thought or done in my life! How dare they disagree with me? Have they no idea who I am and how much more informed I am about this thing neither of us have actually seen yet, thanks to my time-travelling technology / sleeping with Mike Mearls / precognitive powers?

Liberty's Edge

17) The absolute insistence that 4.5 is right around the corner. Sometimes the poster usually tries to turn it into a joke.

Liberty's Edge

18) Gnomes and all the hellfire that goes with them.

...From a place you've never heard of, comes a story you'll never forget...

Alright, alright, I get the point. I'm a troll, I admit it. I'm guilty of about 99% of the complaints above.

And for what it's worth you're probably right (about it being annoying, anyway). I still insist that I'm right about most of my anti-4e comments, though.

So....

The worst thing about all these 4e threads? The fact that I keep getting sucked into them even though I've promised myself a thousand times I won't get sucked into them again.

There, I said it. And for the 1001st time, I promise myself I won't get sucked into another pointless 4e debate thread.

Yeah me too...although now I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the show that is 4e, and try to stay the hell out of those threads..of course something always pulls me back in...and with the release of Worlds and Monsters this month I don't think I'll be able to contain myself(WTF The Isle Of Dread is in the Feywild!! and appears every so often..then disappears back into the Feywild..somebody totally stold that from Krull....
