Number one favorite: human multi-class rogue fighter; decent DEX, but builds STR over time so he can use all martial weapons effectively. Think Indiana Jones--a charming fighter with flanking skill, can deal with locks and traps, and can utilize much of the esoteric stuff he finds exploring ancient ruins!

Number two favorite: human cleric with domains of healing and magic. Takes a feat to use the long sword; together with a morning star, he's ready for any critters in the crypt. A researcher into the secrets of the past, to use for the good of modern civilization.

Number three favorite: elf druid. Since I tend to play NG, alignment drift is generally not a problem. Relys on animal companion, longbow and longsword to handle the rough stuff. Nice for variety, and wildshape is great for scouting w/o being noticed.

Elf wizard: armed with a longbow and a longsword (or rapier), the noble elf mage wields bow, blade, and magic as she strives to master the mightiest of spells. Lots of skill points in Knowledge skills, especially Knowledge (history.)

Human ranger: Listen, Spot, Hide, Move Silently, Survival skills to be the sneaky woodsman. Two-weapon fighting generally (though I'm working with the archery path this time around), usually longsword/dagger or longsword/shortsword, though a quarterstaff is more fun sometimes.

You know, when designing a ranger I am always tempted to use twin short swords for two-weapon fighting (you can use them with high DEX and finesse, and all associated weapon feats--focus, improved critical, etc--give you double the payoff in a scrap). But somehow, a long sword in hand just paints a cooler picture...

...or you could make a halfling psychopath ranger with 'twin daggers of doom' who gets really, really mad at any short jokes with a wisdom score normally reserved for lemmings.
Or maybe a long-winded and arragont elf wizard who use the longest words possible and is obsessed with gaining more arcane power.
Or an incredibly greedy human rogue.
Or a human bard who insists on singing 'sneak, sneak, sneak past the guard...'.
Naaaaaaa...

I enjoy the idea of a 200 year old elf (yes Middle Aged) Elf who started his career as a Fighter. Over the years his adventuring bands had retired and gone or died of old age. Those who have past, he keeps their weapons and to remember them forever has their names branded into his skin, to suffer his longevity with memories of his honored friends.

Twin shortswords works too. Saving it for a fighter right now, though. I like KC's psycho halfling idea, might make for a good villain one day . . .

For 25-years I've played rangers, spellcasters, and shapechangers, who --
--do problem solving (outsmart the DM's evil NPCs)
--wallop the enemy,
--fight for the party and friends no matter what, and
--get the party into trouble with "friendly" NPCs

1E:
NG human ranger (from 6th - 21st level!)
NG human illusionist (my only female PC)

2E:
CG hengeiyokai ranger with two bastard swords (in 3E, requires Monkey Grip! :-)
CG human cleric with read thoughts and other mind and time sphere (domain) spells

3E:
LE human hexblade (his familiar was a priceless guard while sleeping, cos I earned a whole bunch of enemies!)
CN kobold wizard (loved reduce and silent image along with alter self later, cos being Tiny is awesome!)
CN warforged warlock
LE fiendish changeling dread necromancer with Arcane Domain feats (healing and trickery) (passing as a paladin, priceless).
LE hobgoblin battle sorcerer with fey bloodline (Arcane Strike + wraith strike = lots of damage to dish out).

Hmm, I suddenly noticed I started a dark theme during 3E!?!
1E was high school, 2E was graduate school, and 3E is as working adult.
I loved them all, may they rest in peace :-)

I was actually referring to Belkar in OotS.

Hi. I like characters. I like me.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, man...

I tend to rate characters as 'good' based on RP opportunities rather than builds, but some have good builds as well.

Here goes:

- Brick: NG warforged cleric that prepares nothing but healing spells, and passes out after spending more than two spell slots in one encounter. Collects junk, causing him to look like a humanoid gypsy wagon.

- Shariv the Skewer: N human paragon / fighter / master thrower with an inhuman Dex bonus, a collection of straight razors, and a chip on his shoulder. His main weapons are a pair of foot-long iron spikes.

- Daniel Lovoth: NG human artificer / paladin / Infused toting a Large sword and a matching ego, and whose bound celestial warps his armor and weaponry with each level. Catchphrase is "AHA! A QUEST!"

- Clive Quoyle: CE human fast / wild talent (D20 Apocalypse), a self-proclaimed "people-hunter" with a taste for rat meat, the ability to create a bubble of force around himself, and a beat-up sniper rifle named Jeannie.

- Radik Aurel: LE human fighter / binder that makes cost/benefit analyses on situations, then proceeds to kick the s*@$ out of everyone anyway. Still new, so not much info available.

- Corvin Killgannon: CN human fighter with a foul mouth and a worse temper that turns himself into a human meat grinder during combat, due to his spiked armor and gauntlets. Strangely endearing, in a Jayne Cobb sort of way.

- Alaric Linnock: CN human fighter, fully armored in full plate, and carrying a Vicious greatsword, foolhardy, and more chicken-livered than Sir Robin. He once accidentally trapped himself in a rotating tunnel and almost died of fear.

- Seann Eoghan: N human wizard / favored soul, based loosely on a distant (1300s) ancestor of mine, casts buff spells on himself, then rushes into battle. Suspicious of strangers, but loyal to friends. Probably my most archetypal character.

- Avery the Yellow: CN human variant paladin, always tries to make the flashiest and most dangerous attack possible, making frequent use of his halberd and his shocking grasp power (as opposed to Lay on Hands). Never makes the same joke twice.

Sorry, forgot an appropriate emoticon or sarcasm marker. Still think I could make a good villain of him one day, though.

Yeah, I wasn't certain.

Yeah, I wasn't certain.

Though I think that a suave bard with a naive good twin would make a great partner for the halfling ranger, just for kicks.

Oh no! Something is going on! Something is switching the posts!

FLEE!

Nothing I like to play fits into a class. I guess I have no class.

hmm; half giant druid to 5th; master of many shapes 10 (to level 15); then finish druid last 5 levels. Probably my favorite so far.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I'm a fan of Dwarf Clerics. I love me a 20 Con.

Wizard/Rogue
Wizard/Fighter
Wizard/Paladin
Wizard/Druid
Wizard/Wizard

My favorite 3(.5)e character was a Diviner 7/Pal 1. He was called to fight for justice, but lacked the brawn to be a competent paladin.

It was a lot of fun playing a wizard with a paladin's code.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32

My favorite is a half-elf sorceror/druid(or nature cleric), since I have so many memories with that build.

I've always wanted to play a Rhenee Eldritch Knight (even though it's an illegal build if the character is a male) or a rogue/cleric/expert, with ranks in Barber.

I like the non-melee smart guys, like a bard or a good rogue variant (not so much the PH rogue). I even played a variant expert (NPC class). I also like roleplaying off low ability scores.

Examples from my past:

Halfling psion with a 6 STR. Retired at 24th level.
Human delver (variant rogue from Path of Shadow) with an 8 DEX.
Dwarf rogue with a 8 CON. (I rolled a 6.) Recently deceased.

My current character is atypical of me: human cleric front-line fighter with heavy armor. After the near TPK of my party, those of us that lost our PCs swapped out roles.
