Hi, I've been planning on running the Victor Saint Demain arc for my friends as an upcoming series of games for my friends, and I was looking at the rogue's gallery of baddies.
One thing I've been considering, because of a character I've been playing in a recent campain, is to make Grimgraj into a grappler monk. Nick Logue, or anyone who cares to critique my thoughts are welcome, please!
It seems a shame to me that all of his metal piercings only serve to give the hobgoblin ex-monk a weakness. What if they gave him a strength as well? I imagine he likes purposeful body-modding, otherwise he wouldn't have stretched his arms so.
My proposal is that I'll swap out one of his feats, probably 'Acrobatic' and give him 'Improved Grapple' instead. Then, I'll make it so that his numerous body studs, piercings, and spikes are sufficient to count as Armor Spikes implanted into his skin itself, doing an extra 1d6 points of damage a round in a grapple! This'll enhance the intimidation factor of his body mods with an actual threat that can be backed up. And he can still flurry, if he thinks it'd be easier or more effective against a foe.
What do you think, sirs?

I think that is one of the more freakish Ideas I have heard....I wonder why Logue didn't do it himself save that he might not have wanted a TPK.

A cute blond gas spore assassin duelist bard in tight jeans.
Ah, that explains it.
So redhead gas spores are out of fashion now are they?

Let the Book of Posts be ammended thus:
Logue did have an email praising him and doth not reply within hours 12...
A madness is upon us!

Sounds like a great choice Drakli! Improved Grapple is one of my favorite feats, cause so many PCs NEVER EXPECT THE GRAPPLE! Yeah, if you go that route, I think his mods should totally give him a little extra grapple oomph (maybe a +1d4 damage or something), but also, speaking from someone whose done grappling with people who body-mod...it might prove a fun disadvantage too (ever grab someone's nose ring while they were choking you...ha!). Maybe if a PC states they are grabbing a piercing and TWISTING they get a bonus on their opposed grapple check or something, or you could just narrate how they escape that way:
"You grab the freakish hobgoblin's nipple spike and wrench it to the side. He yowls in pain and releases his death grip on your throat."
Great stuff Drakli...enjoy!
Nick
P.S. What kept me from the computer, if you must know Pett, was no blond gas spore bard...it was a sinister trap (no doubt left by you!!!) called Settlers of Catan.

P.S. What kept me from...
Hiya,
Sorry it took so long to respond to the responses. Call it the Christmas season & other life events... nothing as impressive as 'Settlers.' n.-
Anyway, thanks for getting Nick's attention folks, & thanks for the advice and compliments, Nick. Taking it back a notch to 1d4 is fair enough (though I might be mean and keep it at 1d6), and it'll give good flavortext at the least, maybe better if the players are canny like you suggested.
I dunno if my PCs will be quite so unsuspecting as yours, though, since I have a character of my own when I'm a player, who's a grappler wearing spiked armor. They'll be more like... "Eek. We've got trouble!"
My one concern is that it might take away from Rrelga the Gasper's own grappling. I'm not sure why she doesn't have Improved Grapple, to be honest... shouldn't having Improved Grab qualify you for it as much as Improved Unarmed Strike? Are Power Attack and Blind Fighting really as useful to her as a better grapple check would be? She has Darkvision already. Doesn't Power Attack take points away from your grapple check or is it just your attack roll?
Also... I know this topic is abot Grimgraj, but I /love/ the image of a tentacled female goblin-mutant (which I remember chokers being at some point) in a fine smoking jacket chomping a cigar. Classy!
She looks a bit like Mullock the Glukken from Oddworld in her Dungeon mugshot.
