Just Finished the Skinsaw Murders

Well, tonight my group finished the Skinsaw Murders.

This Chapter was pure genius. We did it in two sessions. The first session was a finish to Thisletop and then on to the Skinsaw Murders. We played until they killed the baddest guy in the Manor. The group was on the edge of their seats and did not make a sound about quitting until after 1:30 am when they killed the BBEG. That was after 15 hours of play.

Today they finished up at the manor (best they could without resting there) and headed to Magnimar. They tracked down the clues - did a good job and the BBEG flew away after a near TPK. They recovered and bit on the next job from the Mayor - and our next session will begin witht he trip to Hook Mountain.

We are all loving it immensely. Thanks guys for creating such a quality product. I would say that the first half of the adventure at the manor was one of the best (if not the best) session I have ever run.

That sounds like a cool session Shem, Skinsaw was a lot of fun to write and as I've mentioned before James did an amazing job of making the haunted house even nastier than my original take. He is the master.

I've just wrapped up Escape from Old Korvosa and I hope you'll take a look at running that too - it's very much a reign of terror meets escape from New York with overtones of invasion of the bodysnatchers and although it's a very different adventure to skinsaw I think you may like the mood.

And of course now would be a good point to mention to Logue that skinsaw is thrashing hook by 4.8 to 4.7 in the reviews, which makes the good readers fine judges, top fellows and dazzling ladies one and all, and him a big girl's blouse. M'nar.

Damn it. Why does Rich have to write such good adventures! CURSE YOU PETT!!!

Kudos on the awesome work on Skinsaw my man, it's absolutely delicious stuff, and I'm glad it worked out so well for you Shem. Good gaming is what Paizo is all about. It's writers like Rich and DMs like you Shem that bring the magic of D&D to life every day. Rock!

I have a question for you, my players are still in Burnt Offerings so i read Skinsow Murders only once but i felt there was A LOT of hauntings in the house, i know they are really flavorfull and they all add some intel about the story but what was the result in play? I am affraid it can be a little repetitive and become "oh another effect" and becoming a little boring after 4 or 5 hauntings.

How you played it?

I did not expect to start another Pett/Logue thing...

Thank you both for your great work and for being on the boards and responsive to the fanbase. I also love Hook Mountain and will begin it next session.

I randomly assigned everyone in the group a particular type of hauntings. There were six players to it worked out great. And I just when with it. It added a lot to the creep factor of the house.

The players were actually dreading the next one coming along. It really added to the creep factor. I fudged the saving throws a bit to actually have more happen rather than less because everyone was having so much fun with it and was creeped out. The first one - one of the strongest characters grabbed another character and rushed out of the house into the ravens who then attacked. Of course the whole group followed. That creeped them out so much I thought they were never going to leave and spend the night eventually (which they finally decided was not a good idea.

I love the bird swarms outside and the rat swarms. Even though the party could have most likely killed them both they ran like little girls and were afraid to go outside or back into the basement.

I say the more hauntings you can spring on them the better - it is also how they get a lot of information about what is going on in the house.

My group burned the humanoid fungus in the cave below and thought they handled that. They never did figure out (had a lot of clues though) that the house was still haunted after the Ghast was dead (He was a great battle - they were on the ropes and knew it. Only thing that saved them was the Paladin never missed a fortitude saving throw and the Favored Soul was behind him healing the whole time. Other great thing about that battle was two PCs slide down in the the water and had to crawl up a rope that someone lowered to them. Broke up the party so really there were only two PCs in most of that fight. The one fighting were actually brilliant and won. And at the end two had eating the forbidden fungi and two wer on the ground and nobody had any spells left.

Rich - I am definiately a committed Pathfinder DM. I will definiately be running the next AP when it comes out. I cannot get them fast enough and I am already looking foward to Second Darkness. Only problem is that I have such a full schedule of Paths that I do not know when I will get to the Modules. A tough problem to have. I have actually packed away everything else that I own for now while I focus on the Paths. I cannot image running anything else for a long time.

Thanks again.
