Need Ogre and Giant Minatures

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Does anyone have any recommendations for purchasing a large-ish number of ogre and giant minatures (say about a dozen of each). I'm looking to keep the cost per figure down below $3 or so, and am willing to consider folding paper alternatives. I'm not interested in metal minatures - I don't have the time to assemble and paint them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I saw some Hill Giant Barbarian minis for sale on ebay for cheap, but the shipping puts them over your $3. So I checked the mini section here for the same one since you could group the shipping - $14, eek nuts to that.

It looks like there is a stipulation that buying multiple hill giants from the same seller only increases the shipping by $1 per extra, so that might be close for you.

I just looked on ebay and it seems like most everyone is selling the hill giants from the War Drums set for two to four dollars. Some of the ogre figures from various sets are in that range, too.

I'm guessing that getting a $25 random booster pack is out, then? <spoken with tongue against cheek>

Otherwise, I'd guess eBay to be the better deal as well.

I'm in a similar dilemma, except, I'm hoping to bypass the cost by making mine from wood. How big will the Rune Giants be? If I know the size, I can begin to at least make one.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

Hill Giant Barbarian, War Drums, Large Uncommon
Ogre Skirmisher, War of the Dragon Queen, Large Uncommon
Skullcrusher Ogre, Deathknell, Large Uncommon

The Skullcrushers are heavily armed and armored (and have funky hair). They also are from an older set, so they may cost a little more.

The Skirmishers are women. Big women. Think Planet of the Amazons big.

Spoiler:
No can dunk, but has good fundamentals!

Hill Giant Barbs are great. They look like a hill giant and are from a recent set (thus they are cheap).

Of course, if you wanted to be really cheap, you could find a picture of a giant and ogre miniature, pull it into a graphics program and set it up so you can print the correct sizes out on an 8x11 sheet, then cut them out, glue two backsides together for strength, and assemble them with slits in perpendicular fashion - but of course that requires assembly.

I just tried it for kicks. The outcome isn't very glamourous, but you can print them out so that you can fold two halves together to avoid gluing them. You'll probably need to glue it to a base to keep them from shifting around though.

Or you could just roll a couple images into a 1" circle and tape it.

I could see a variety of ways to do this, depending much on your own creative fervor.

1. Reapers has a line of pre-painted plastic miniatures. Included therein are ogres, though I know not the variety.

2. Get creative. See what sort of humanoid action figures are out there at your local Toys R Us. I know Hasbro sells quite an array of Star Wars, Transformer and Marvel Superheroes in 2 packs around 6 each. They're from the "Hero Squad" line. There are also "Attacktix" or "Heroscape". I say creative, because you may need to paint and mold them.

Hope that helps.

Forget those spears. Death by snu-snu.

Check out this link: Ogre Action Figure.

I also took a look at Play-doh. Didn't see anything of merit. However, it did occur to me how nice it would be to have plastic molds of various large or huge monsters and clay and mold your own on the fly. When you're done playing, roll it all back up in a wad and use it again later.

Wonder whether any game company has considered this.

RPGNow has a number of paper miniatures products. I was just over there looking for ogres when the site crashed, but it's worth checking back later.

I like this idea as well. I have a huge 12" Spawn and a 12" Spawn: Middle Ages that has an ancient SE Asian flavor that seems similar enough to the cover of #6.

Actually, I use MacFarlane's Dragons regularly. MUCH cheaper than WotC's miniatures, fairly equivalent in size, and much better detail. They've even spawned my own hybrid dragons, Half-White/Half-Reds, Half-Blue/Half-Greens, etc.

The Exchange

try this site.. they got the minis sorted by type...
by the way, has anyone ordered from this store already? and where do you get your minis from?

I buy a lot of stuff from Cheap Minis Ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/CHEAPminis). The prices are pretty decent, but the kicker is flat rate shipping of $3, no matter the order. Not having to pay shipping for each figure when you order 50 is awesome, let me tell ya.

For the ogres I am using the Games Workshop Ogre Kingdoms, as I can model the odd ones.

That store is awsome. There are a ton of good minis up less than a $1. Thanks Infamous Jum.

And thanks everyone else for the suggestions. Has anyone used disposable heroes? How do those stand up?

Thanks for that link!

I just wish I hadn't made a mini order this morning.
*heavy sigh*

Glad I could help! Just don't buy too many of the Giant Frogs, I'm slowly adding to my pile. I'm hoping to build a house out of them.

Also check out Auggie's store. He's been a favorite reseller on a couple of the minis forums for some time.

His prices are tough to beat and I've never had a problem with his service.

... I think I hear my bank account crying. Thanks for the tip!

I have. They aren't bad, but they are pricey for what you get and the art isnt great.

I MUCh prefer a set called stand Ins. They have a ton of fantasy figures with front and back art (so you don't just get a balcked-out back, or a character facing both ways). The art is great (a few females have over-big chests, but there are plenty of reasonable figures to make up for it)

The art is easy to grab out of the pdf and re-0size or re-0color if you want to. There are 62 color figs and 250 b&w ones (also easily colored for custom figs). The multiple giants and ogres are all colored.

For $12, you can't beat it.

(For some reason, Paizo doesn't seem to carry them.)
