Storyline modification and DelvesDeep

Shackled City Adventure Path

Sorry DD for the shouting of your name in the subject line, but I am curious if you've completed the storyline modifications for your alternative AP. My players are thoroughly enjoying the adventure, but I'm afraid they are going to reach a point where my lack of time and resources may start to show.

Thanks for all the hard work,

This is my order of writing. I'm not sure how long each will take. I don't have the same time as I once had but as my party progress necessity becomes a great motivator :)

My Writing Order

Demonskar Ball - finished
Seige of Redgorge - playtesting
Last Laugh Guildhouse -(attack on the evil rogues headquarters)
Missing Lord Mayor- (search for the Mayor & discovery of
Vhalantru's past)

Carved in Stone - (hunt for Sundabar's Earth Oracle)
In Search of Hope- (rescuing Nidrama from Embril in the
Haunted Village)
Dark Dreams - (entering Adimarchus' Nightmare Realm to destroy
his Inner Demon)

I hope I write up the adventures you need before you play them otherwise good luck

I hope so too! :-) As for Siege of Redgorge...how goes the testing? How's it looking so far?

Really well.

The players a loving the adventure. It is something different from the normal dungeon crawl that most of the SCAP is made up of.

So far the only changes I've had to make is -

1 - The Assassination of Captain Teresong - the bodyguards behead the leader rather than simple kill him to stop any easy 'Raise Dead' use. It wouldn't make that much of a difference to the overall storyline but for flavour reasons I prefer the poor captain to stay dead as written.

2 - The Initial Assult - The Half Orc army needs to be well out of range of spells when the first assult occurs. My party cast a few area spells at long range which caused the Blue Duke to send in a few of his guard to provide cover while the rest of the Half Orcs retreated. I'll just have to make sure that the Half-Orc Army is well out of range in that initial attack.

3 - Retaliation - I will also include a section of what the Stormblades and/or Blue Duke will do if the party attack the army at any stage. In my game the party attempted to meet with Skylar at the boat houses (near the waterfall) but he never turned up. They then decided to attack the half orcs that I said were building boats there causing them to flee and put the Half-Orc camp on full alert.

Some of the party used this diversion to get into the enemy camp disguised (see my last post in the 'Seige of Redgorge' thread for details).

The Blue Duke responded he and his guard turning invisible and attacking the party and town before retreating back to camp.

The party used his absence to sneak into his tent and read the battle plans.

Anyway - I'm sure my party will throw more surprizes at me as we continue to play. I'll keep you posted.

Oh god, please write fast. I love your Demonskar Ball and the Battle of Redgorge. I can't wait to read (and run my players through) those other adventures.

Thanks Sean! Glad you like them. I haven't heard much feedback on the Redgorge Seige yet so any comments are more than welcome.

I also want to write up the new Chapter for Skies Treasury before my party finish the Seige but work and family just keep getting in the way ;)

Oh yeah, delvesdeep, I’ve been meaning to tell you, I ran your Demonskar Ball for my players several weeks ago, and they – er – had a ball. Thanks for all your hard work man.

No news is good news, as far as your writing is concerned. Speaking for myself, I am eagerly awaiting your playstesting to be completed, and the finishing touches on the Redgorge Seige made, and then posted to RPGenius.

My group and I are about to embark on Geekfest 08, a 4 day marathon gaming weekend at a holiday retreat, two players are flying in from interstate. The central adventuring piece will be the Demonskar Ball. The players were so excited when they received their invitations. They've since leveled up twice and taken diplomacy, singing, perform musical instrument, dancing... they can't wait. And the success of that will come down to you.

So, echoing the comments of others, write faster! We eagerly await your prose. Me? I'm thanking my lucky stars that my group are behind your group - still in Ch 3, about to do battle with Triel. So Redgorge is on the horizon, meaning I will hopefully be able to utlise all your excellent work for a 2nd time!

Mothman...is that really you?! I haven't heard from your in years, well maybe months but all the same great to see you still out there. How did they cope with the other NPCs on their table? Did they enjoy the 'Dance Off'? What costumes did they wear?

Great to hear from you anyway :)

A weekend of gaming - sound sensational! Love the name too - Geekfest 08 :D

I'd love to hear how it all goes and you're probably right about the 'no news' thing.

Thanks for your support

It is really I. ;-)

Yeah, my Shackled City game was on hiatus for a while, and my players took about 5 sessions (at one session a month) to get through Flood Season, so it’s been slow going, and I haven’t really visited this part of the boards much.

They handled the table NPCs pretty well. Mostly ignored the Bradley Dipinshires apart from a few snide remarks, actually got on well with the half orc, I changed the dwarf and gnome for npcs from my own campaign. The rogue was nearly embarrassed by Vortimax, who had just recently sold him some potions for a thieving mission for the Last Laugh (sneaking into Maavu’s warehouse to plant evidence).

I had all three PCs get the demonic invitations; the bard chose the fat demon with the snarling mouth costume, the rogue got the imp costume resized for him (and also had the Nabthatoron invitation) and the fighter/paladin (much to her chagrine) chose the Marilith costume.

They didn’t really take my hints about getting lots of singing, dancing or etiquette lessons (only a couple each), but they did manage to discover Taskerhill’s competition bribery; despite intimidating Palendor into judging fairly, the bard tanked a few of his rolls for the Song of Heaven, and without the benefit of lots of bonuses from lessons, lost to Annah. He did later win the Haunted Village dance though. The fighter almost came to blows with Zachery during the dance-off, but managed (barely) to beat him. They also had some good rp / investigation scenes with Vhalantru and Alek.

Sounds like they had a good time. Did they take the Half-Orc up on the Test of Strength lifting the wagon full of s!$+e? :)

What was there take on Vhalantru and Alek, particularly after his superman impersonation?

Did you or they have any favourite moments?

Once again good to hear from you mate

Good to talk to you too D.

No, they never got to the feat of strength with Berem. As the half orc started getting drunk and heated, picking on the party rogue and arguing with one of the other npcs, the party fighter was getting annoyed and I figured it would segue well into the challenge (which the fighter would pick up). BUT, the bard then started being diplomatic, made a very good roll, and calmed the half orc right down ... soon he, the bard and the fighter were old buddies and the challenge never came ... I ended up giving them points for that anyway.

They can see that V is on the level, a good upstanding bloke who genuninely wants the best for the city ... and considering that he is friends with Celeste, who with her name, appearance and the fact she speaks celestial (they'd encountered her once already), is obviously an angel or something, that puts him in an even better light.

Alek has got them stumped. They have three main theories: he's possessed or being controlled by something; he's not really Alek but some shapechanged creture or wizard; or he's acting deliberatley out of character in order to embarrass the government. They figure his strength is a result of a potion or spell of Bull's Strength, and that he must have deliberately tripped the servant to stage catching the boar. Since the ball, they've been pressing Jenya who is remainig tight lipped (both to protect the church and to hide her secret past affair with Alek) - this only makes them more suspicious.

Good stuff.

The cart-lifting contest in my game was hilarious. The fighter accepted the challenge since the Bradly-Dipinshires were encouraging him to do something to shut the half-orc up.

Half the party considered themselves too civilized for such things, and waited inside at the table while all this took place. I changed the contest slightly... nobody was helping them to lift the bags of refuse onto the cart. So if one happened to break open, it would spill all over either the fighter or Dalam.

It was a really close contest... just when the weight was beginning to get seriously challenging, one of the bags ripped open and spilled all over Dalam. So now the half-orc is stumbling drunk on Bubbling Cauldron drink, covered in filth and refuse, and flailing madly about on his back in the alley.

Everyone else just laughed heartily at him and walked back inside. Dalam was not allowed to return to the ball in his condition.
