Their are 10 adventurers in Vhalantru's mansion as far as I can tell (ignoring the monster trophies). My players decided to do the right thing and bought 10x scrolls of stone to flesh and freed them all.
I dont want to just abstract it entirely. Would like to give at least a name and a sentence background as well as a sentence about their relationship with V.
Did anyone elses players do this and if so how did you handle it?
Thanks.

In my game, the players are searching for their mentors, some of whom are adventurers that Vhalantru turned to stone. I also had each player (for 300 xp) give me the name, class, race, physical description, and basic personality of an additional character. I've been using those characters as other adventurers they encounter in Cauldron (not ALL rival adventurers are jerks like the Stormbaldes), and I imagine a few of those characters will end up statues in Vhalantru's lair.

If you are planning to respond, keep in mind that there are several names of adventuring parties listed on the façade of Skie's Treasury that would be good to use:
The Greenswords
The Unhumans
The Singers of Ehlonna
Varmint Patrol
(The Stormblades should also be listed there.)
Also, I request that responders describe:
- the greatest adventuring feat that the adventuring group is best known for (DC 10 K:history, K:local, or Bardic Knowledge).
- their interrelationships at DC 15 (Joe is married to Mary. John is cousins with Edward, etc.)
- their relationship with Vhalantru DC 20 (K:nobility)
- their secrets at DC 25 (Joe was a member of The Chisel, Mary "likes-likes" John. John hates Edward and is suspected of arraigning a deadly accident for Edward. Edward spied on the group on behalf of the Last Laugh.)
Also, please keep in mind that any adventuring group in Vhalantru's mansion written up must have "retired" at most fifteen years ago, as that is when Vhalantru establishes himself in Cauldron, according to Cauldron's history on page 13 SCAP.

I replaced all the statues in Oblivion with PCs from previous campagins I've run or played. That way I had ready to play personalities without having to do any additional preparation. The one player who realized what I was doing was very pleased with himself. My party was much too selfish to spring for any stone to flesh spells. They never even considered helping out their fellow adventurers out of altruism. Even one player's idea that they return the adventurer's to flesh and then kill them for their stuff didn't spark much interest.

Mine are about to.
I changed all the statues, though, to tie them into the PCs lives a bit.
One is a Half-Elf bard that used to play with us, but moved so the character just disappeared.
Four are the PC Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster's parents, uncle, and friend, who were an adventuring group in their day, and left her behind for "one important quest" when she was four or five (to attempt to uncover the truth behind this new 'noble' Vhalantru, who had come to town and wasn't as good yet as passing as a half-elf).
The other five include a missing Strider that I wove into one of the PCs back histories, and a group of adventurers that one of the PCs idolized in his youth. I set the levels for the family and adventuring group to be perfect for if any of the PCs take Leadership as their next available feat.
I also intend to shuffle them into the 'citizen aid' options for the various disasters in the next chapter.
