I'm pretty sure I started a thread like this already, but its been so long since WotC put up a preview, that the old thread died. So, now they've got two new previews up, including one showing the Gelatinous Cube.
Here is the first of the weekly mini previews .
And here is the September and Beyond preview, which shows the cube. You have to scroll almost all the way down.

Wow. I've been waiting for the Gelatinous Cube for a while. Now that I've seen it, I'm kind of underwhelmed. :-(
I was hoping it would be a bit more translucent, and maybe have bits of coins or armor or bones inside it. *shrug*
I don't know, being able to put another mini in it is pretty freakin' cool :)

Wait--where does it say you can do that? (That *would* be cool).

"I know I can't wait for November's release of Desert of Desolation -- I need a Gelatinous Cube, just to keep on my desk, filled with an ever-changing array of things."
- from the September and Beyond preview, all the way at the bottom, below the pictures of the Troll and the Cube (italics mine).

Oh! *Looks sheepish* I read that phrase as modifying the word "desk"--I thought he was looking forward to displaying the Gelatinous Cube on his desk, as *one* of the ever-changing array of things...on his desk..
I need more caffeine.

I'm also looking forward to the November release. And what I've seen so far is really nice. The Umber Hulk was cool, and a lot of folks have been waiting for a gelatinous cube. That new troll wasn't too shabby either.
I will say though, I picked up some of the new Reaper pre-painted plastic minis the other day. I got one of each of the skeletons (swordsman, spearman, archer) and an ogre. Pretty nice, and you don't have to deal with the random crap that WotC puts out. I'm hoping that Reaper expands the line and puts a serious dent in WotC's minis sales. it might just make them re-think the whole random thing a little.

Preview #4 for the Desert of Desolation minis. This one contains a mini of the 4E version of the Osyluth (still a Devil), which I think looks really cool. There is also a Yuan-ti abomination that looks to be the servant of a new 4E god (or at least one I've never heard of before).

Ask and you shall receive.
I think I want one--or more--of each...

Wow, those look great! It seems like they're using their existing sculpts from metal miniatures to make the plastic ones.
Desert of Desolation does look really good so far, even though I think that armor-clad pillar of flame guy that WotC is using for their headers and stuff looks silly.

I agree that the Reaper minis look awesome. Thanks for the link Kelvar. I'll have to let my local store know that which ones they should order for me.
And yeah, the Fire Archon does look kind of stupid.

Also, WotC's Preview for October and Beyond shows two more minis form the line. Just scroll down and look at the 4-armed Sahuagin Baron.

![]() |

Here is Preview 6 for the next set. This preview includes a look at a "newly re-designed for 4E" monster, along with some very vague (what a surprise) hints about said monster.

![]() |

Here is the full set of the new minis. You don't need to be logged in on the DDI.
My particluar favorites are the gelatinous cube, the manticore, the harpie, the sphinx, both sahuagin, both yaun-ti, and Bruenor Battlehammer.
I also find it curious that the naga in the set is just referred to as "Naga" - no other appelation. Mayhap an indication that in 4E there will be only one type. They have already said that all but one of the figures in this set will be in the 4E MM. I'm guessing the one exception will be Bruenor

Another one of the commons that I like is the drow blademaster. I think that is just a really nice pose they have the mini in. As I'm also a big fan of undead, I'll be looking forward to getting some of those common boneshard skeletons, and the uncommon guardian mummy, and ravenous ghoul. The Shadar-kai looks nice as well.
Overall, I'd say that , with this set, there are really only a couple of minis that I don't want. The macetail behemoth is "meh". The fire archon seems idiotic to me, and the rage drake is something I'll just pretend doesn't exist.
I'm not too fond of the tieflings either, but I could always find a use for the minis. Personally, would never allow them as a core race in any game I ran.

"Ragetail behemoth" is easier for the dinosaur-challenged kiddies of today to say than "ankylosaurus"... frickin' chuckleheaded short-attention-span theatre patronizing ... wanders off after the gelatinous cube...

Yeah, this set of minis is an overall meh. Paint and sculpt quality (Dwarf Brawler is just terrible) are down from the last set, and I'm not so sure if they stuck to the theme very well. I mean, it's a desert theme and there's no monstrous scorpions? That, and I'd expect to find very few Sahuagin in the desert. ;)
I'm glad most of the ones I want are uncommon or common (warhorse, large fire elemental, pig farmer, yay! Dwarf brawler, BoV Fanatic booo!). That means I'll probably still buy a case and get 4 of each common and 1 or 2 of each uncommon. I only want about half of the rares, so I will probably get 6 of the ones I want and be able to trade for the rest.

![]() |

I too am glad to see some of the commons like the horse and farmer. By now, I've got a ton of monsters; I need more mooks! (The original commoner with the scythe just doesn't work well in a tavern and I had to re-paint a bunch of those female Strahd zombies just to get common women.)

James Keegan |

I think some of them are very cool and quite a few are completely hideous. The dwarf guard of Mithral Hall from the last set put the bar pretty high for lousy sculpts and paint jobs and it's...interesting...to see that they've "topped" themselves with the mercenary general, dwarf brawler and that "dryad" figure. I'm glad to see that they've finally managed to get my beloved gelatin people subrace somehow represented with the "Angle of Vengeance" and "Flame Archon". I guess after writing to them every day for three years asking for it, they finally gave me my beloved Jello Men.
That being said, there are commons, uncommons and a few rares that I would very much like to have. Beyond that, well, the Reaper pre-painted line looks like it's getting pretty good.

There are some good minis in this new set, but some of the sculpting quality of a several seems low or maybe rushed. I think they pushed this one out a little too quick. There are certainly some decent commons and uncommons. I personally recommend minature market (no I don't work for them) as a good website to buy singles. Its much cheaper than paizo, and I'd much rather pick and choose than waste my money on random packs.

I had heard of Miniature Market, but this is the first time I actually checked them out. Those are some excellent prices and a great selection. Thanks for the recommendation!

I should also mention that I've placed about 8 or so orders with them and I have always got my orders quickly, and they haven't made any mistakes on them, so their service is very reliable in my personal experience.

Miniature Market is excellent. Fast delivery and responsive customer service. It also helps that their prices are great!
DoD is a big let down for me. Aside from the G-Cube and Large Fire Elemental there is precious little I want (Ok maybe a dozen or so horses :) ). For me the commons and uncommons make or break a set since they are the ones I will get lots of. In this case they broke the set and i will only be picking up singles (and very few of those).

Randy Hurlburt |

Put me in the "how can they make such awful miniatures" camp. I may purchase a few individual figs, but I certainly won't buy any boosters. I think D&D Minis hit their high point at War Drums and War of the Dragon Queen, and have been on a steep downhill slide ever since. The overall quality of the sculpts and the paint jobs has dropped enough that I've gone back to Reaper's unpainted stuff and their Legendary Encounters line.

I second the plug for miniaturemarket.com. I haven't found a site that is cheaper or quicker.

I just wanted to say that after this set, I believe I am going to switch to Reaper's Legendary Encounters for my pre-painted minis fix. The next set coming out has a Marilith, Illithid, Ettin, Succubus, and some cool looking gnolls, goblins, koblods, and PC types. The best part is that they are not random, so there are no ridiculous prices for "rares". When you consider that you can easily drop close to 20 dollars for a Marilith or Illithid from a DDM set, and you can get a large LE mini at Miniaturemarket for about 3 dollars, it's a no-brainer.

I was also planning on picking up some of Reaper's pre-painteds. I bought the skeletons, ogre, and troll from the first batch, and really liked them.

Well just picked up some on e-bsy. A couple of Driders, a pair of shdar Kai for a friend. Some tiefling rogues, a set of fire elementals, and a sphinx. Oh, and a mummy.
Yes, the child was stuck in my head on that last purchase.
Oh well, got some hero clix for my enjoyment and more money for pathfinder.
